      ***** Well here's your chance to help directly right now haha.
      ...if I modeled a wheel with a 9inch outside radius, can I THEN cut the finished model into quarters and 3D print each separately. Reason: printer only has a 10x10x18 volume to print in, I said 9inch radius to play it safe and not print right to the edge.
      Ok I feel dumb now....I should just model 90degrees of a wheel and print it four times.
      Though! If there is a way to perform the task I requested let me know for future reference.
      Thanks!

    Great tutorial, learned a LOT from this. Just a quick question, how did you get that shadow and reflection of the rectangle?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад

      This is a slow answer but the feature you are looking at is part of having 'RealView Graphics' enabled (found under 'View', 'Display', 'RealView Graphics') and having a scene set to have floor reflections (some scenes do and some don't; you have to find one that works).

    Thanks for the video. I have a quick question: I know 3dsmax fairly well, will I still benefit from Solidworks? If let's say I want to design some gadget.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад

      Hi Polyrider81,
      3D Studio Max and SolidWorks design differ tremendously. SolidWorks focus is in design of products for manufacturing and excels in that regard. If your goal is to design a gadget to eventually have produced in real life then SolidWorks is the program you would want to have for that.

  • @yileanglim401
    @yileanglim401 4 года назад

    Good day to Goengineer, I had a question which troubled me about Solidwork. I have a cylindrical disk with (Radius = 9cm, Height = 3cm) and i wanted to determine the volume from Mass Properties (Solidwork) and compared with my hand calculation for volume. I used V= pie *r2* h for my manual calculation and got "7. 634 x 10^ -4 m3" while Solidwork Mass Properties showed " 1.8931 X10^-4 m3" for volume without assigning any material yet. And i got confused and loss. Hope Goengineer may guide me a way out of it . Thankyou Goengineer. PS : sorry for asking this silly question but it troubled me and i cant get through my analysis process.

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  4 года назад

      I tried this procedure in SolidWorks 2020 SP1 and the initial and subsequent VOLUME values were the same both before and after I applied the Material.
      Erroneous Mass Property calculations would be a huge problem to a large audience, so we want to determine the specific cause of what you are seeing.
      Bugs can be related to your particular installation, the Version or Service Pack of SolidWorks, or dozens of other causes. However, recreatable bugs are quite easy to diagnose and repair. That said, if you can recreate the situation on your computer to show us, we can narrow it down easier. Please try to capture it with a video recording using SolidWorks Rx and send it to Support@goengineer.com.
      Once we see it, the Support Tech will take the necessary steps to report it or assist in the repair of the cause.

    at 10:10 you say to right click on the face, and you get that po-up menu. when I do that my menu has far fewer things available, and sketching isn't one of them. Is there some configuration I need to change to get that?

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  7 лет назад

      Hi Tim,
      At the very bottom of the right click context menu that appears is a symbol showing two down arrows. Clicking on this will expand the menu items to see items that are not as commonly used. If, however, you find that there is a tool being hidden that you would like shown by default you can then use 'Customize Menu' at the bottom of that list to set a menu item to show by default and not be hidden.

    What version is this I am new to cad and starting 3d printing. I was looking at the student version would that work?

    • @JosephCutrona
      @JosephCutrona 9 лет назад

      robert jacobson Hey Robert. That version would have been 2011. We always use the latest and greatest versions for training and training videos like these.
      Student copy of SOLIDWORKS would certainly work for learning... You could work through the tutorials and in just a few days, have acquired a valuable new skill.
      However, if something comes up that you want to really work on and produce manufacturing drawings, etc, the education version would not work for that. The educational versions stamp a "Watermark" on all output files that says "Created in an Educational Version".
      Thanks for watching this, let me know if there is any specific topic for video you'd like to see posted.

      Hi Haftir,
      You should not have to create the midpoint for a sketch entity or edge. This is an item that would appear once you mouse over the approximate location where a midpoint might be. Hovering in that location for a second would then make the midpoint show for you to select.
