- Disney Speedstorm Early Access reviewed by Luke Reilly on PC. Also available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
"Disney Speedstorm in Early Access is a fundamentally good kart racer that’s currently too light on tracks and too repetitive to warrant the required investment. Worse still, it’s buried beneath a veritable Splash Mountain of gacha garbage and so many discrete currencies that do different things that it almost seems like a parody of the entire free-to-play genre. Nothing sucks like gacha, plucks your bucks like gacha, makes you jump through hoops for Donald Duck like gacha." Игры
Luke Reilly spending almost 3 minutes talking about gacha currencies and slowly going more and more insane is hilarious.
My biggest issue is that there's very little flavour in the game. They just pasted some Disney characters on a futuristic racer. There's no personality in the cars or powerups. Even the cheapest of kart racers know to make the powerups thematic.
Yeah.... If you want a kart racer aimed at kids with personality running on all cylinders, play Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 or 3. The karts, racers and tracks are showering with personality.
@@isaigutierrez1617 the graphics though, ps3 level
Crash has the best
Love the section about monetization. Superb job! Didnt expect any less from gameloft.
There is no monetisation in the game right now, as you can't buy anything in-game with real money. Everything is earned by playing the game. Obviously, that will change at some point, but this review really should have mentioned that.
@TheRealDJSigma He did mention about buying tokens actually at around the 5:40 mark
@@captaintalon4485 He says "and we will apparently be able to buy tokens to unlock content faster". The monetisation is coming in the future, but there is literally not a single thing you can buy with real money in-game right now. The only way to spend money on this game today is to buy a founder's pack, which is required in order to get early access.
Let's just wait for this to go free-to-play
The value proposition at F2P also sounds pretty bad imo
Sounds like a hard pass even then with that currency and box system. Looks like it's made to give you as little as possible if you are a causal drop in player.
Have it on the switch love it👌👍
@@cryptocrypto8736 U know u already bored mf
Duhh
IMO Disney should’ve just spent the money on on a Split Second remake or sequel.
Agreed. Split Second it's an awesome game, even by today standards.
@@mnicolas9742 meh
Love that Luke Reily is always the guy that's usually the go to for racing games
Bout time IIGN were consistent
he should do alll reviews.
His voice is like information, entertainment, and ASMR all rolled into one. 💯❤️
Yeah his forza reviews are some of the best to come from ign imo
@@gresno198 because nobody jokes about ign always giving 8s. Pretty consistently. 😂
Game developers pick a side either charge up front or free with micro transactions there is no middle ground.
To be fair f2p can be done right…..it’s just extremely rare lol. Too many developers put the cart before the horse and forget you have to make a complete game first
Its free to play on playstation. It's a pretty decent game and people do play it online. Not hard to find a race.
Sonic and Sega All Stars Transform was a hell of a kart game, loved it.
The sarcasm in this review was shifted into overdrive - and it was great
What a missed opportunity. They should have created maps with the layout from areas in the different movies or from the theme parks. Imagine racing your kart across the drawbridge and through Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland, or a course through the town in Pirates of the Caribbean.
This so SOOO well written!
Randomly saw this on my Series X home page and gave it a shot. Review is spot on, it's surprisingly fun and well made, but character shards and multiple currencies really put a stink on it. At least it's free to play now and Donald Duck unlocks super quick.
Was hopeful after dreamlight valley but this is waaaay to mobile monetization. It’s fun and I’m hopeful they can make some fundamental changes to progression but we will see.
It’s a cool concept. Nostalgic characters, cool soundtracks from movies on each different map, MarioKart-esque gameplay, etc. but just like Disney, the gaming industry has fallen in the past 10 years or so, so this game will have no real passion put into it and will eventually sneak micro-transactions into everything.
It really is depressing to to witness classic game genres like kart racers and platform fighters be forcibly injected with free-to-play mechanics
Stuff like Multiversus and now this just feel utterly soulless
they have free mechanics because both are supposed to be F2P... anyway a lot of games like Mortal Kombat and Mario Kart both follow a similar structure when it comes to monitzing their gam,e only one keeps their content behind a DLC pack and the other one adding a coin system to do the exact same thing, either way they're still fun, if not more fun than a lot of games I've played in the past its just nostalgia thats talking there
This game would have been great if it was basically Mario Kart 8 with Disney characters and maps
Came for the video, stayed for that slappin monsters inc theme remix
Great graphics plus kart controls sounds great. Cacha make it an immediate no for mem
*Gacha 😅
Appreciate the honesty… what is even happening with these currencies, Jesus..
This new wave of early access "free to play" that charge premium prices for said early access by multi billion dollar corporations like Disney and warner bros is a pretty weird business model
Donald Duck going OraOraOraOra was my favorite 3:16
Its a great game imo. But the progression is very clunky and feel like a mobile progression
That…doesn’t sound like a great game then. Great gameplay with horrible systems does not equal “great game”. But that is your opinion, to be fair.
Probably since a mobile gaming company developed it
It’s because the developers usually make mobile games and sometimes port then over to console
It looks very bland in every possible way
The pricing for the early access is insane. 3 racers for 30 bucks.... 😂
Don't forget DR disrespect asked $30 for playing his scuffed pre alpha game 😂
They killed asphalt 8 and 9 is chance for carhunt
@@glennmichaelfabila613you can still download asphalt 8 & play it offline offline
At full price one character is like 40$
If you where to buy every character at full price it would be over 1400 dollars
Uncapped frames on PC looks sick at 4K over 120fps.
Runs 60FPS maxed out on a $399 Steam Deck too.
Deck is like playing with a gameboy lmao
@@Tony-tg9so Really? After all that smack talk that the Steam Deck was going to smash/replace the Switch? Oml that's anti-climatic
FML. Lost me at the currency -- thank you so much for including this portion in your video. Was super informative. There is no competition to the OG Mario Kart, especially if they're going to try and monetise from it as much as they can with the absurd currency system.
Lol well thanks for the advice to hold off (and suffering you had to endure from the monetization) for this review.
Is it gonna be available on both IPhone and Nintendo Switch? And if so when does it release?
Damn what's that Monsters Inc. Remix you go going on in there (0:53)? 🔥🔥🔥
Great review thanks
Been playing a fair bit of this myself lately. Really great multiplayer gameplay, but AI racers literally stick to you like glue using all sorts of artificial ways to stay close to you, which is kind of unfun. The grind is also just as bad as this video makes it out to be. When the game eventually has about 3-4 times as many characters, it's going to take FOREVER to unlock anything if you don't throw money at the game when the in-game shop inevitable allows the use of real money for purchases.
The texture and graphics of this game reminds me of Asphalt 9 legends
Made by the same devs.
Is there a date scheduled for this game to be free?
September 28
Luke Reilly has to be the best part about IGN
What a way to take the joy from racing.
This looks exactly like mario kart with a little extra flair. Only racing game thats not sim id consider right now is that lego racing game
I'm really looking forward to Lego 2K Drive! It looks like it will be a lot more fun than Speedstorm.
Is like Mario kart but future and No Red Shells 😂 that glue to you until you got hit
Wouldn’t be surprised if they start charging real money for weapon pick boxes lol
I'm gonna play it when it's free
Hears goofy reference….. I’ll allow it.
Where is sora???
Fr
Busy smashing.
Anybody else not have herc or jack sparrow unlocked? Contacted support and got no help
Game looked fun, but hearing its free to play/ gacha based with battle passes and multiple in game currencies that you have to purchase or farm for makes me not want to play this at all. I'll stick with Mario Kart.
how about another update, we can’t even get through the starter pack without an error upgrade
Can Luke just review everything for IGN please?
Can you play it Splitscreen couch coop in early acces ?
Yes
Yes. Local Freeplay mode.
It is a parody of itself at this point 😂 great review
way too many currencies in this game
I'll still be bumping Race With Ryan.
I’m getting Mod Nation Racers vibes from this
Awesome Disney Speedstorm Early Access Review Video.
So it's sonic all star racing with a Disney skin?
We need a new Modnation Racers game.
Donald is a WWII veteran, just not for the side you'd expect
They should've just released this as a game on a disk and charge for dlc.
Shame how hard they are trying to milk this
5??? This game is actually very fun. You’re ridiculous.
You can have fun with subpar games
Let's be honest though the mountain of annoying F2P mechanics kills any fun you could have
@@albanier8426 The game itself is brilliant. But I’d agree with a 5 maybe a 6 because of the gacha system.
Fun game, terrible progress system. It's a shame really and they even increased upgrade shards from beta to early access despite feedback
@@Mr_Tokon Yeah, people pointed out how grindy it was... so they made it worse. Such scummy move.
Hardcore grind and expiring time events? Mobile gaming has arrived on the console and Pc
ps4 just 2 players split screen ?
"Early access" DOesn't this mean they are still working that F2P nonsense out? They should just cut it out completely and sell it for $49.99.. It looks great and the racing reminds me of Sonic Racing Transformed, the best racing in the past few generations.
Game's inferior to SART.
Yes, but that game is showing it's age visually. I'd love to see a proper 4K/60fps remake for the PS5. Maybe throw in some PSVR2 support while they're at it. Sonic Team Racing was a big letdown for me.
@@videogameobsession Ok.
Bitching about a “free to play” game for having a heavily intensive purchase scheme…yes solid review 😂
The gatcha and loot box system needs to go. Otherwise, the game is pretty fun.
Is it me or do the karts/cars seem really really slow
4 player split screen!!! It’s available!!!! On Xbox so far
I'll wait for free to play this will be fun for a few....minutes
As an asphalt 9 expert player I'm interested of this
Well today is free to play
How come no one is talking about the awesome, funky music?
Wanted all wreak it Ralph characters
Anyone else, remember mickey's speedway usa on the N64?
6:38 Bro wtf is wrong with Mickey's ears!
The intended audience are parents wallets, not kids.
Wil it come to mobile
MY REVIEW: Bought it, its awesome to play , feels like mario kart, or even better,. runs supersmooth on xbox series x and online is awesome, great level design to
Is it 7?
Yeah I’ll wait till it’s free like it was meant to be
It might be because I'm used to MarioKart or Crash team Racing but this seems very slow paced...
It's honestly not. Maybe in the video it looks slow paced idk but when you play it it's fast, anything more and you literally won't be able to control your kart.
Ojalá pongan a Timón y Pumba
So this is Mario Kart with disney characters
Why don't you do early access reviews for other games as well? Just wondering.
They did a video of why some games are done and others aren't.
They do sometimes.
@@rosie684 why
Apart from the fact it has micro transactions the game is way more fun and extensive than Mario Kart. You don't even gain enough to have a serious advantage over others by spending money either so a 5 is ridiculous.
Be strong fam, don't spend a single penny or don't play the game at all, ever.
❤
8:16
Clever
Donald duck is the goat hold this like
Monetization whether it's here yet or not is vile for a game aimed at kids.
Why do all these racing games go for the mario kart style of boosting, CTR has a much better method
ngl ,big thing that bothers me is that they're just straight driving cars. there are things in every movie that they could drive that'd just make more sense lmao
Might be better to continue playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or CTR Nitro Fueled
no voice lines? ill wait
Every charachter should have a spécial attack exclusive to them ....
They have a unique attack
Looks like it should have been 10 bucks for early access.
Gameplay 3/10, but Crash team racing 🏁 10/10
Does it have Star Wars related characters and cars tho?
Not yet
No Star wars but cars might appear
The game will regularly be getting content update, they said they will be adding new Disney and Pixar characters, karts, tracks, seasons, etc. So maybe in a future update.
Feels like multiversus.. ridiculous money making tactics
shame he doesn talk more about the actual gameplay. its so satisfying and as a founder myself, it feels awesome and theres no lag online, which is amazing for a kart racer. and you DON'T NEED to be ALWAYS ONLINE like Crash Tram Racing Nitro.
It's a racing game. You drive on a track and try to get 1st...That's the gameplay.
cause gameplay is self explanatory by just looking at it, the bigger issues are more important to talk on like mtx and purposeful grindy element to manipulate players into more spending
He properly covered the gameplay/power ups. However, the systems in the game make it…not great. If you’re not going to admit that, then that says a lot…
@@MicDubTV it’s his opinion
saw gameloft logo and was convinced it was a mobile game, was surprised its not coming out on mobile
They have another game in early access, Disney Dreamlight Valley that’s available on PC and consoles only. The reviews for it are very positive but yeah they don’t only develop mobile games.
What a missed opportunity for a great racer. Killed by 'Free To Play' at birth.
Sonic all stars is the best kart series
its the currency breakdown for me...
This or the Lego racer?
Probably the Lego one.
Highway ROBBERY 😢
A Disney game shouldn't have a battle pass and microtransactions
