These changes are going to kill the game. Remember that. And it's a shame because the game looks beautiful, it feels amazing to play and has so many cool Disney characters, that it makes me angry that they're going to kill such an amazing game, just because of typical corporate greed.. 😢
couldn't agree more honestly, it just sucks for a game that still has almost limitless amounts of potential taking in to consideration all the possible content, to just get slowly dragged down by the same people even though there's loads of other ways they could make money off the game
Games like these are designed with planned obsolescence; they generate the majority of their revenue early on. As income decreases, the operational costs remain the same after development. This is why a developer or publisher might degrade their game's quality until the player base dwindles.

I already knew from the beginning what it would entail. As soon as we figured out Ursula would be locking behind the tour, it already unlocked even more possibilities for them to push more buttons.

I'm starting to wonder if the game is trying to switch from a f2p model, to a psudo-paid expansion based model. Will have to wait till the new season to see if that is what is happening. Like are gacha boxes still relevant and need to be bought, or do most shards come from the money season passes, if that makes any sense. Seems a little on the pricey side for a actually sort of small paid expansion, sounds like it's minimum 28 dollars, for just one season of content, tournament mode, etc. But that's just my opinion. Guess we see where it goes.
I’ve spent a good amount of money on this game but the announcement from yesterday was ridiculous. Crazy that they try to pass off the 2 parts to the golden pass as helping people who don’t complete the pass. And charging for the pass without the tokens made me realize that the game doesn’t have long and this is a way of getting extra cash from big spenders. What a sad turn of events.

I lost my job at the end of January so money has been tight for me. When I read about the new seasonal changes, I was like...."Well, guess this is the first season where I don't get every racer." It sucks because I love the game and I have supported the game with my money but even if I feel I'm "In too deep" financially, I might have to cut my losses and walk away from Speedstorm.

In my opinion, the Little Mermaid season was very much play-to-win, and this problem is only getting worse with the Wreck-it Ralph season. What was wrong with the way getting the Golden Pass was before, when you could pay for it with tokens and only had to pay once a season?
Unless Gameloft undoes this controversial change, they're going to have to change the game's name from Disney Speedstorm to Disney Greedstorm.
I didn't mind to pay 2 or 5 euros to get the extra blue tokens that I needed to get the season pass after having earned some blue tokens playing multiplayer rank. After this change, to get Ralph and Vanellope (we all know are going to be them) I must pay 20€ and all the effort I put into multiplayer has no value. I don't care about cosmetics, I just want to unlock the characters. I'm used to not being able to unlock midseason racers, but I always got all the main characters from Aladdin, Frozen and Little Mermaid seasons. Unfortunately, Ralph will be my first uncompleted full season in terms of characters.
Anyone that knows Gameloft history can't really be surprised they went with choosing violence path.
The Disney+ and Hulu with ads bundle is $10 a month. They seriously think a single video game should cost the same price.
To be honest my biggest issue is that, that it would be a constant $10 a month. If it was self sustaining like other games' battle passes I'd say the $10 upfront wouldn't be that bad, but expecting $20 a season, $120 a year? Absolutely not.
I've had enough fun with the game to justify throwing some money at it but I haven't found anything worth spending on. The boxes are too stingy for their price and I can live without skins. I think the tournament passes sound like they might be just the thing I'd be willing to buy but then also with everything else surrounding this update I don't even want to consider that.
it's crazy that such a good game is ruined by its monetization system, they could make much more money in other ways, like skins for example... I think I'll stop playing.
This reminds me of what Bungie did to Destiny. I stopped playing because of it.
The worst part is this is actually a game I truly love, it makes me happy, and last year when my depression was getting extremely bad, it was the one game that got me to start playing again.

I don't have an issue with a game being pay-2-win, but when it becomes pay-2-play, consider me out. $30 a month to have basic progression?!?
Honestly, what makes this worse is that this change is coming when the Wreck-it Ralph Season rolls around. The one that many of us were waiting for since the game was released...

@@HighLanderPonyYT yea I literally liked the game so much that I even bought the pass with just 20 days left and I completed it in a week, now I’m at a point where I can’t progress pass any more nodes in the season chapter because of the lack of racers and shards. I have 8/10 Ursula shards and need to get 208/215 medals to unlock the last 2 but I’ve peaked out at 208 medals at least until my can obtain more racers and shards.

Very crafty of them to slowly change it so people are dedicated to the game and will pay out. If they started off like this they wouldn’t get the fan base in but as the fan base is now in they can crush their wallets

Sadly thats the way it always goes when companies recognise they can drain the players. As mentioned, there are lots of ways to earn money and still give value in return and keep the f2p-player too.
Its not about earning money for living, its about how to get as much money as fast as they can.
The only way to stop that is: Dont speak about the game, dont play the game, dont buy smth inside the game.
But this will never happen. Content creators have to play. And there are thousands of ppl who dont care how much money they spend and a single one of these will outweight millions of f2p-player...It always go: money, money, money!
I think at this point Disney needs to take the game from Gameloft and do it themselves.

thats actually hurt me to see but this game was one of those games that i always can chill in it and have fun i started playing it at season 4 as a free to play player the game was fine until season 5 but man they made everything worst with every update i loveded that game and the gamepass was the best part of the game but it hurts me that im gonna quit the game

I definitely realized the little mermaid season was somewhat pay to win because I couldn't complete events because i needed ariel, and i didnt buy the season pass. I didnt buy the frozen pass but i was still able to unlock elsa and complete events. I was saving my star pass for seasons i liked, like wreck it raph i like those characters and planned to get that pass because I like that movie more than the past seasons. I started at the end of season 3 with lilo and stitch

I genuinely wonder if the game will survive long enough to reach all the datamined/leaked content. Once again, the actual game part of Speedstorm is great and you nailed it. I love the track layouts, racer abilities and music. It is just unfortunate Gameloft can't help themselves and even worse because this is an online only game so when they pull the plug by year's end to move onto the next grift, everything will vanish forever. It sucks that such a fun kart racer was designed to keep gouging for money masquerading as F2P when as others noted, they really want this to be a subscription game. Sunk cost is real so I will see how season 7 starts, but they haven't earned any good will to justify forking over $10 per month essentially.
I've been playing the game since the middle of season 5 (Frozen Season) and I've really enjoyed the game, but lately I've been sad about the game, because the characters I also want to unlock are payable characters and that's bad for me. The next season is the one I'm most looking forward to because it has the characters I like most and I feel like I won't get all the characters because of this monetization issue. Gameloft had to look a little more at us, free players, who also want to have event characters and make us even more interested in the game. Unfortunately I'm not going to buy the passes, even though I've never bought one, but I hope to see this issue a little more resolved in the future. In fact, since I started playing the game, your channel is the one I've been following the most and I like watching your videos, coming from Brazil :).
Disney Speedstorm, where the "battle pass" is just stuff you could also unlock for free if you grind long enough will now be more expensive than Fortnite's "Battle Pass" which gives you 8 exclusive skins and stuff. This will be the worst update, eventhough not everything is bad (like the vault pass), but make it able for F2P players somehow. I'm not going to spend money on a kart game, unless it was offline DLC to do entire season over and over again, a little bit like Mario kart DLC, but with an entire season for like 4$. I do look forward to tournaments as long as they don't put a paywall in it. Remember if this game fails to make a lot of money they will shut it down and all the money spend on those seasons will be gone.
I was a week 1 player and bought the founders pack and after some seasons, I had to pay for the Golden Pass with Tokens and often I didn’t have enough Tokens for the pass, because I don’t play RMP/MP that often, so I had to spend real money and it was fine for a Golden Pass and I could completed the Season Tour..
But when it came to the season 4 or 5 with mid season racers, that was required to complete the Season Tour, I was mad!! Because I ranked low and didn’t had enough Racer Shards to unlock them and then I was forced to pay for the last Shards, to unlock that character, in order to complete the Season Tour.. so I had to pay for both the Golden Pass and the Racer Shards.
And it continued from that season till today, with double payment.
When you pay for a Golden Pass with real money, that is for the Season Tour, it shouldn’t be necessary to pay extra, in order to complete the Season Tour.. that makes me mad!!
I didn’t complete all the chapters/nodes in season 5, because of this, even when I payed for the Golden Pass. The same goes for this season, I didn’t complete all the last nodes, in the last chapter.
I understand that people will spend some extra money on cosmetics, that’s on them. But charging extra money for low level players and Golden Pass buyers, is just insane!!
I have saved up and payed with real money, for some of my Tokens and have more than 4.000 for future Golden Passes.. that was what I thought.. they are now just money out of the window!!
I started playing when this game went free-to-play and ended up forking over money to buy the Golden pass during the Aladdin season.
I was able to get a ton of characters & enough currency to buy the little mermaid golden pass when that became live. The trade off was healthy for anyone playing on a budget.
I won’t lie, buying the golden pass at the start of the free-to-play era was the best time to start playing disney speed storm for those who didn’t buy into it earlier. It was a great experience^^ (I now have all racers but Steamboat Pete 8/10 shards)
Now with these changes Gameloft is punishing new comers, casual players, players who don’t have the time to put into the game and even returning players. I will not be supporting the next golden pass or tournament out of protest. They truly missed the mark here.
The key to having a great free-to-play game is to have a healthy relationship with the community and things were looking well until recently. This change imo will only damage the community and will hurt the player base.

I was astounded by this game not because of its content, but because of the developer track record vs the reception around F2P.
I knew Gameloft as the dev making those asphalt games on mobile which were, in short, financially horrendous for players. I was surprised to see the leniency as to what content was being provided through gameplay means and when the beginning of the Frozen season hit the all-time high of good graces with its community, I really should have known it would come crashing down, but the attitude displayed was so... not them that I bought into.
Gameloft has been at this since 2009 or 2010, I should have known in time.
Wow. How the mighty have fallen. I use to love this game, and looking forward to the next Season. It's the only game that got me into Seasonal events. Now they've become so money hungry. I guess I should've expected this from Disney
@MarioSonicDKPokeFAN Disney is trying to make their money back, since many of their modern movies (particularly their live-action remakes) are largely box-office bombs. Disney was unable to afford to keep Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse's debut cartoon, out of the public domain, hence why it made it in this year.
@FlyingDuckMan360 Disney owns A LOT of franchises! And their parks still make tons of money and even if they were bombs, they still made millions and you telling me that the company couldn't afford to keep their characters from entering public domain? That is CRAZY
This game will officially be dead to me now as soon as the update comes. Been getting tokens so that I would be ready but now it was a total waste of time in me doin all that. If I choose to not play anymore in a way it’ll be a relief coz I have never been rage full and stressed at a game in my life. So least i will be stress free and I can focus on other games that I haven’t played or haven’t finished. R.I.P. Disney speedstorm, thank u for the anger management and destroying the game for me (even this it hasn’t been a yr yet).
This whole situation is definite proof that Gameloft's communication is awfully poor. This upcoming season will be the season where Speedstorm will see a massive decline of players as many drop this game. I've been giving Gameloft the benefit of the doubt that they'll turn it around and keep improving and staying optimistic that things can only get better, but nope. I'll see what Season 7 has in store and hope Gameloft does a 180, but I'm at the point where I'm ready to ditch this game.
Really appreciate you doing this, get more awareness to the fact of how bad the game has been getting with pay to win, or even pay to play in general now. Maybe eventually they will stop and make it fair again, but my hopes aren't high for that. Every update, every season they get more and more greedy and money hungry. I'm waiting for them to go to a Fortnite system where you have to just pay to get anything you want in general, carts, characters, skins, etc.
They've got no incentive to turn the game around, this is them optimizing the money they can make before they initiate EoS

I think the main reason they’re splitting the season pass into 2 is because they know that the most invested players and those likely to spend money on the game are those that have a plethora of golden pass tokens banked. They probably sat down and had a think about how they can best deplete our supply of these to ensure that they can start making money off of the veterans as soon as possible. It’s pretty sickly. I love this game so much but my main issue is that, time and time again I think I know what I am committing to or investing in and then Gameloft pull the rug from under our feet. I love this game, I’ll be sticking it out but they definitely are making far too many predatory decisions. Also, they definitely separated the two pit stops because they know how much outrage there would be in response to each 😂
I wouldn't mind paying for the certain gold crew members of choice out the gate.
Speaking as someone who played this game since the Monsters Inc. Season, I don’t have many worries about paying for anything because of how much progress I’ve built up with the characters when they were new. The new upgrading system is a lot better and the only times I really spend money is for the newer Seasons or when a high rarity costume or car cosmetic appears on the shop. I mean, you had to pay money to play the game.
It’s not like being overly monetized like Overwatch or TF2 (different game types, I know) and the prices are not extortion levels like what other companies do. The game that I think is worse is Dreamlight Valley because so much decorative buildings, outfits or even a “continuation” of the main story are behind the paid currency.
I’m not a free-to-play player, like you, I’ve played this game on Early Access when I pre-ordered this game for $29.99, basically $30. I don’t know how it’s going to affect us paid players, but I wouldn’t mind buying $10 for a season. But another $10, that IS a bit much. We should at LEAST be able to buy $10 for EVERY Golden Pass going forward. UNLESS GameLoft can give us an option to use tokens again in HOPEFULLY Season Eight. Cause, BESIDES the Monsters Inc. Season, I’ve gotten to level 50 on EVERY Golden Pass.

Edit: Sometimes even when you want to stay positive it's time to take the gloves off and hold them accountable. I feel you though - speedstorm is an incredible game. Maybe surprisingly, I come from an FPS and MMO background. Games I was gaining had a dry spell and a friend and I tried speedstorm on a whim. Over a thousand hours later and I'm still having a blast. I hate to see where the game is going but if we don't respectfully speak up, nothing will change.
I respect you for always trying to keep it positive and also respect you for knowing when it's time to hold them accountable and say this is not the way.
Side note: Been thinking about this, we keep hearing (and repeating) to others that we recognize that the new passes have essentially the same value...but they don't do they? Because right now I get two characters right? So for the same price I'm only getting one character now. I'm sure there will be a bunch of random nick nack BUT it's still only 1 characters only 1 epic crew, instead of 2 characters and 2 epic crews, and again, for the same price.

Great Game but I'm at the end of my rope on the cash grab from Gameloft and it's disappointing to see Disney allow this to happen to a game with so much potential.

I unlocked every character und i really enjoy the game.
I already spent some money in the game [~ 100€) which was fine for me, due to the reason u mentioned in the video.
I also spent some money for my kids, so they had some tokens on top.
With the upcoming change Greedloft killed it for it.
I could easily afford to buy 3 passes in a season, but since i'm not a stupid cash cow i will turn into a 100% F2P Player, take what i can get and see whihc direction this game will take.
I can only hope that the majority of the playerbase will do the same, so they might start to reconsider their actions.
My idea was like “Fortnite Creative Mode” where you would either drive around making tracks of your own with or without a magic wand or just walking around without driving. Lol. ^_^.

No apologies. This is a terrible update. As a purchaser of the ultimate founder's pack, I sill have a lot of tokens left due to only spending them on the gold passes. Now those remaining tokens that I spent money for are useless to use for that? Ariel is my favorite princess so this might be the best time for me to end the game.

I bought some extra tokens when I first started playing a two seasons ago so that I could get the better deal and have tokens for many passes….sucks that I’ve spent money on the game that I cannot use anymore for the reason I spent it! This game is something else

I was really looking forward to the new season since I got almost enough tokens for 2 golden passes (I'm a F2P player), but now I'm really depressed. What's happening now is what I was afraid of since the very announcement of the game being F2P 😞
I actually really like this game, but I already got sceptical since the split season boxes... The audacity of Gameloft, making progress harder with every update while claiming to make it better. It's disgusting.
I'll try to stay with Speedstorm as long as it's still fun, but I'll never ever spend a dime! And I agree with other people in this comment section, people need to stop spending money on the game!
I normally don't judge people who do, but if players keep throwing money towards Gameloft, they basically allow them to proceed with their greedy changes and treat loyal players like trash 🤷♀️

Its soo sad this is my favourite game. Its the only thing that has me got me true me being sick at home for the last 3 months... but I just can't pay for all that stuff. And I dont buy characters if they make me be able to only buy the ones I like. But they force you to buy everything. Cause they will ask for the paid characters (goldenpass and mid season racers ) in the chapters. So if you dont buy them you cannot do a huge amount of the game ( I feel like its atleast half but im not sure)

@drunxkills6624 There are tons of other racing games out there. In addition to the Mario Kart series, there's also Crash Tag Team Racing, the Nickelodeon Kart Racers series, and Sonic & Sega All-Stars racing.

This game is heading towards the same track as Farlight 84 did. I spent tons of money in Farlight 84 and in the end they didn't listen to the community as regards to the remove of Jetpacks therefore it failed. I'm glad I didn't spend money in this game cuz it's gonna fail very soon. If it was a game that gave us reasons to spend money it'd be more acceptable rather than pushing it down our throat, nobody likes to feel obliged to do something.

While I'm usually a wait and see person and do agree with some of the changes, I fully understand the anger about the changes to the Golden Passes. Why change it from in game currency to $10 a month/ $120 a year? I, like many others, set aside enough in game currency to buy a few more seasons but now I am being asked to fork over an additional $20 to complete the the Wreck it Ralph season? Nope. I've enjoyed it from the beginning. I don't regret any of the money I spent on it with the multiple Founder's Packs and of course I'll check out the update. But at this point, I'm done spending any additional money on this game unless changes are made. It's a shame too because as you stated, the core of the game is really good and fun to play. It's a shame to Gameloft kill it with greed.
Way to ruin a 1st anniversary before it even started Gameloft...
I loved this game but droped it seeing how these game was gonna go the asphalt 9 route they just want spending whales and the sad reality is they dont need many to make a game profitable

Disney Speedstorm was doing so well until now. Sure, the Tournaments, the upgrade change were great and all, but these new updates they are sending out are slamming people and betraying our Veteran and New Players. I love Speedstorm very much, but I want Gameloft to make NECESSARY changes, not UNNECESSARY. We need a good right now!
Gameloft when it's time to constantly keep a game they make in a good state instead of ruining it then worse.
Skyline not sure if you play mobile games but the new game called astra knights of veda is quite decent Or another eden is fantastic. You could try them out?
Try not to think on disney speedstorm as much because this game might eventually wear you out mentally since gameloft have made these changes...

The content behind paywalls I only agree with 2 things. Golden Pass should only need to be paid for once and only contain 1 racer locked behind. I don't think they should need to be available in season boxes unless unlocked. Sure it sucks for free to play players, but they need to earn money. I say the same about needing to spend money and not tokens for golden pass (though I think if it isn't going to be vault passes should be available via tokens). The 2nd thing I agree with is locking mid season shards behind a need for a hard to get racer. They way they did Eve does not quite fall into the category as it was her 2nd event wave or whatever they call it where you needed Wall-E for the shards. But I can see a future where they do it from the get go which I don't think they should. Overall I think there are bad changes, but the good changes imo outweigh them and I don't think Season 7 is the worst Season. For me that was Season 5 and I didn't hate or dislike it either.
I think the best way to look at the changes is look at every change set positive and negative numbers to the changes brought by them and see what the ultimate value ends up being. Sure Season 7 imo has the so far worst change in needing 2 Golden Passes for 1 Season and locking 2 racers instead of 1 behind it, but the tournaments is imo also such a great change that is about equal in value and the upgrade change added makes it a net positive change total. That's just my 2 cents on it. Also I have 6 Golden Passes remaining so I could do the 2 passes per season 3 times without a need to pay so it doesn't affect me personally too much. I also know good games shut down due to lack of support and I don't want that for Disney Speedstorm. I believe those that love the game enough, play it quite a bit, can afford it and want it to continue should pay for some things time to time. I dislike the mentality of "Oh it's hard getting x without paying" like GameLoft doesn't need to make money from this game for this game to keep running. Of course some complaints are fare, but way too often I just see people complaining over the smallest things and I also see people who have played for only 3 weeks with 25 characters unlocked already.
Did you forget that we could unlock Wall-E for free this season?

That is what a live service game is, to make more money than they would've made if they charged us $60 then everything was free
