Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.
TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!
If you do want to continue supporting TLDR's independence & transparency, then we'd really appreciate it if you picked up a copy of our newspaper: tldrnews.co.uk/product/too-long/
Hi.
i dind have a credit card is there a to pay witout one?
If you want to have an article written about Pakistan for "too long", just let me know.
FYI: Your E-Commerce system seems to not be set up correctly or the system is down. Attempting to add something to the cart results in a message:
"To purchase multiple products please complete your transaction and start again.".
Attempting to purchase the "Editor Edition" results in "Invalid payment method." no matter what credit card or PayPal is used. (I'm in the US if that helps narrow the problem down.)
@@xNYCMarcit means you already have it in the cart then. I got the same error message when I tried adding it again. Just click on the menu and cart, and you should see it
Keep your sponsors and sources of income outside of any decision making process. It will always be more difficult in short and medium term, but it will pay off tremendously in the long term, and people NEED a functioning news outlet.
Trust is priceless especially nowadays

It's the trust that is built that is really important in the journalism industry. So yeah, Kudos to the team from staying off of revenue streams that may affect their journalism work and keeping that independent streak! Such a rare thing in the world today.
wow I did not know the TDLR team has grown so much - very well done
They've grown at least 3 inches for sure
We're actually looking to hire a couple more people at the moment... so prepare for an even more crowded photo by the end of the year - Jack
@@TLDRbusinesswhich one is Jack?
@@beveragebritthe one that was in this video.
@@KaizerRemix ok
I really respect your approach to content creation and transparency, keep up the good work! :)
This kind of transparency is why I keep coming back to TLDR as a trusted news source.
The TLDR team are one of the few media outlets that can offer unbiased, independent reporting that is not influenced by corporate interests or political agendas 🙌🏻
Everyone is bias to an extent.
@@richardhands904 Yup, but they do a good job of presenting both perspectives without showing favor to one in their wording or delivery. It's the kind of journalism you want to get a good idea of what's happening in the world. Then again there is also the bias of not publishing certain topics due to blind spots or ideology, which makes the whole situation trickier, always be vigilant.
@@KytexEditsThey do a good job IMO, however to blanket say they have no bias is a pet peave of mine.
Everyone has a political agenda and baked-in biases, the idea that new media somehow magically avoids this is one of the big problems with how new media is consumed. TLDR are all young Brits, likely college-educated and centre-left or left-wing, with biases towards liberalism, progressivism, social democracy, social justice, regulation of laissez-faire capitalism and corporations, protection of public assets and globalism. Just as an example, their coverage of Brexit was extremely critical and shot through with irony and cynicism.
I feel they are biased slightly to the left but its very negligible, so i trust it as a unbiased new source as a conservative.
Lads, a PRINTED newspaper, thats so cool to see I’ve ordered one already, and I live on the other side of the world lol (NZ) 😊 Having worked in the design and print game I have an idea of costs required for a project like this - looking forward to seeing the printed article and what stocks and inks you choose to run with 😁 I enjoy your work team, happy to support you on this 👍🏼
Another NZ TLDR viewer, ayyy 🇳🇿
Ordering a copy of the newspaper as well, am happy that shipping is actually a reasonable price, considering the distance the paper has to travel to reach us in NZ
Im so proud of the business this has grown into, have been watching since very early on and im glad to be informed by you guys every day! The best
None of the income sources surprised me BUT the way you pre-sell inventory without knowing in what context was fascinating!
You have become one of the big 3 as my source of information. You do a fantastic job and I hope you will continue to enjoy it for the years to come. You are a great team of very competent and prepared individuals. Yes, I'm a boomer, but from Switzerland.
Big 3? What are the 2 other?
What's really crazy about advertisers not wanting their ads on videos about weighty topics os that these exact same advertisers will gladly put their ads on cable TV news
That allegedly was hilarious, jack just had his life flash before his eyes fearing a lawsuit from every mainstream news outlet lol
Thank you for this high level of transparency, it's much appreciated!
Thanks for the work u guys do.
As a new follower in the past year, i really appreciate the open and honest insight! More success to you guys.
Splendid, I was actually thinking about this the other day and you all are doing a great job!
Thank you for your great and independent journalism, you guys are marvelous!
Absolutely brilliant video. Thank you Jack and the team for presenting the news in as close to unbiased as possible.
respect for such transperancy. i really enjoy tdlr so please keep it up 👍
Well done! I love what you do!
It’s amazing how much you have grown. I have been a fan of your channel since 2018. Did you even imagine this channel getting so big.
Thanks for being open
TLDR is a very well researched and informative channel. Well done and keep the great work going.
You guys are totally awesome!
I really appreciate the openess and honesty of the TLDR organisation. Off course you guys should make a good living, and see profits for the hard work you do, but it is also nice to see that so much is reinvested into content, it makes me really happy to support you guys through the Nebula deal.
Love TLDR Business and a Nebula subscriber
I have been watching your contents since 2019.
Look how much your channels are growing. 👍
I’ve been subscribed to the TLDRverse for almost two years now and this is really interesting to learn. Keep up the good work!
I love that you guys are keeping yourselves independent.
Could you please make this a yearly tradition? Keep up the good work!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this channel since I subscribed and am happy to keep supporting as long as the content stays top notch. Great work TLDR and good luck with the continued expansion!
Interesting to see it broken down. Also as a RUclips premium subscriber. I don't suppose you know the percentage premium gives you over advertising? just curious.
I believe it's about 10% of the RUclips revenue, so it's significantly more per view than regular advertising; so it's appreciated! - Jack
@@TLDRbusiness Cool, thanks for the reply.
I didn’t like how they grouped Premium next to ad-blocking. I wonder how Premium compares to Nebula
@@FirstLastth Sorry for any confusion, Premium isn't grouped with Nebula - that split under Nebula is the split for watchtime and conversions
All RUclips Premium income comes in the main RUclips section, and accounts for about 10% of RUclips revenue - Jack
This was a great video. I've often wondered how you guys made your money. Thanks.
Honestly, I started watching TLDR UK almost as a sleep aid/thing that can fill air while I get work done, and since then TLDR has become one of my main sources of news and information about current events. Keep up the great work.
I have been watching your videos since before we knew what your face looked like (too many years). Really great to see how far you’ve come. Keep it up 🫡
Just wanted to say that I appreciate the work you guys put in and your efforts at transparency and improvement through constructive criticism. I look forward to your vids every day and you've cultuvated an audience that offers corrections or insight in the comments rather than blind praise or vitriol! Wishing y'all the best!
Keep doing the excellent work you have done.
I just wanted to say that having RUclips premium pays tldr more than just watching ads.
I love you guys. Greetings from Nicaragua. Please make a video about what's going on in my country 😢
Good one you mate! Glad to see that hard work and good INDEPENDENT journalism can make it in this modern age. I have been a fan for year and try to get my expat friends to watch as well.
As you said a couple years back. You do news that are important not what gets you the most views and that's why I like your videos
Thanks. I signed up to Nebular to help you guys and other youtubers that I value. Had no idea I actually have to watch it, because I still only watch on youtube. Will blitz watch from now on when doing boring stuff like dishes ot ironing. Thanks for the info.
You guys are killing it
The breakdown of YT Ads revenue vs Premium Sub revenue would be very interesting
I find it very interesting for TLDR to explain how they make money. I wish other journalist channels do the same for transparency.
They'll definitely put in an ad in about Nebula in the too long newspaper...
Well Done!
But how does ad revenue work in RUclips with people that have RUclips Premium?? If no ads are watched, so what or how does a channel earns by YT Premium user?
Really really love this video helps me to keep feeling like the great work at tldr is honest and transparent
Was just about to comment the same thing, I really love the transparency of the channel!
I don't think you included a link to the Nebula documentary.
Very good spot, thank you very much - Jack
Excellent video
Thank you for breaking this down
Its interesting to see how your funding has changed
I can’t believe I saw you start out in the flat
Respect that you're transparent about your business finance
Tldr channels are great. I am watching from Ireland
Please make a followup about how the money is spent!
TLDR gives me hope for the future of real news outlets in the future. Grass roots but growing more and more into a real legit entity. Please just never pull a vice on us…
Transparency 👌🏼
Love me some transparency
You guys are so up front and I am grateful. Advertising is 2 edged but you manage to avoid most of the problems. There is a market for controversial topics that is more intense that the market for bland. A retail store will have top shelves and bottom shelves that and leave eye level for the money makers. Glad you don't
I love how open you are with everything. It goes a long way. Thank man
I really love your unbiased content. Your channels really show the conflicts as they are. My American self will never stop watching
Really interesting breakdown. And it's been amazing to look back and see how the channel has grown. Love that you guys are always trying something new
Great Video, but noticed a small error in the video. At 8:56 you mixed up the parties with their countries, AFD and CDU are german, FPÖ and SPÖ are austrian and PIS and KO are polish.
Your independence from sponsors with agendas is your strength
I'm in Guyana and no one target is with ads lol. So we still have back in the day RUclips which is now RUclips premium lol
What is the period of publication of the newspaper?
Came here to comment since nebula is still missing that.
I think you should make this sort of report a regular thing. Being transparent about where funding is coming from is way more important than claimed neutrality. Everyone has some sort of bias, but it’s a lot easier to see that when you know who pays for it.
Keep up the great work!
In Zambia and Botswana there's no RUclips ads .
It's heartening to see how much you guys prioritise journalistic and business integrity. Dare I hope that there will be another TLDR's race across Europe/The World to deliver the newspapers??
So question, as i never really got this. When you watch an ad and skip the ad after 5 seconds; do you still get money?
Will try to watch more on Nebula. Still usually watch on YT out of convenience.
This is why you have to pay to get rid of annoying ads on RUclips.
Fantastic, hope you make more.
3:18 seemless ad role
I’m curious about why in all the graphics for the proportion of revenue from nebula, it’s broken up into 2 blocks. Is that the division between view-based revenue and sign-up revenue?
i love history and so it would be of great value to me if this newspaper could be a sort of history of the year with references between the articles that highlight what led to an event, decision etc. also decent quality paper and ink please.
Doing something even when you'll lose money implies that TLDR truly is The Best news source!
I'll be sure to pick up a copy of Too Long
Don't forget you also got to talk to NATO leaders/ambassadors and the UK Government members which other video journalist company can say that they went to NATO summit in Lithuania
I have so much Respect for you 😌😌
what is the proportion of RUclips premium and how do you value a premium view vs an ad supported one?
This has kind of been answered already, in a reply to a comment asking a similar question. A Premium view gives them a bigger chunk of revenue than non premium. I believe Jack said 10% of RUclips revenue. Significantly more per Premium view than ad supported view. I've paraphrased a little bit, as the RUclips app doesn't allow you to copy text from comments, so I can't quite remember the exact words used by Jack.
Amazing video! I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. I’m European living in Asia and your channel help me stay connected to what’s happening on the old continent. I wish there was more way for us to support TLDR through merch or other way.
I didn't know you get money on nebula per view - I didn't typically watch TLDR on Nebula, just subscribed...
A video with this kind of transparency is really nice to see. Didnt have to show revenue sources, but you did, and thats means a lot.
Keep up the great work, I hope you all keep doing well financially going forward.
TLDR Business earned that higher revenue per views Not Only due to advertiser-friendly environment but also the amount of research which goes behind every single video production.
In a way, being limited on the reporting freedom makes the content less opinionated thus more impartial and that's the kind of objective news I wish to watch! I guess that the RUclips business model works for me
I am a Nebula suscriber. I am sorry not having you into my feed, but you make TOO MANY videos to keep up, and I am always getting a notification. "You haven't watch TLDR's latest... 5 videos, wait 6. wait, 7, wait…" 😅
Glad you're doing fine, though.
I really appreciate your transparency! I’ve been watching your videos since Brexit explainers and it’s very impressive how much you grew over the years
Still waiting on my TLDR notebook merch 😢
What happens if viewers have premium? Do you get any payment in lieu of ads?
Running it on your own is great 👍
Super interesting and helpful self-analysis. And inspiring for launching one's own business or career. You guys are really great.
For the record, I am a 10 year veteran analyst and I think you do a more insightful and fair analysis than almost any other outlet out there. And although fair, you guys don't let dictators, populists and grifters get away with false claims, deceptive narratives, etc.. based on some misplaced idea of being absolutely neutral and lie-fact agnostic like so many others have done.
Don't allow them to fool you. Jack is a famous poledancer. Full videos on nebula.
Very interesting
At least one UK company that profited from Brexit
So nice, love the transparency you have. I love tldr business and how you break down all the interesting stuff👀 Thanks for the video!
I'm actually looking for a job and was thinking about applying to your job advert - problem is that I've still got a year to go in uni. Maybe you'll grow over the next year or two. I'll definitly apply then. I've got a degree in political science and am working on my business degree at the moment. TLDR Business as my employer would be my business nerd heaven!
I love the behind the scene information.
Can I be nitpicky? If not, hi still love the video. Like I said this will be nitpicking but the button sound is a bit loud and for me distracting
I watch your channels every morning. Glad you've grown so much
