If you're wondering why your shots aren't looking like Hollywood movies, pay attention to when they talk about the set decorators 'juicing' the walls, **painting in shadows to create more contrast.** Who has budget or time for that anymore ?
Had a friend of mine that took a hdri of every set and then used the hdri to do this digitally and then put it as an overlay on top of the actual footage I thought he was crazy it looks pretty good his response was I have the one thing no one can buy ...time
I just keep hearing this word TIME… none of it. Can’t do it., can’t afford it. Etc … as a Dir they should battle for it & look to cut other things like 30 EP’s on set all standing around looking at how much they can get from box office release. No time…I bet you Baldwin said the same thing on the set of RUST … No Time !! Lets go with what we have…. We all know what happened next. Can’t get time on a film or TV production? Cut it elsewhere 1 st & then usa that cost to put out a better production - the important things. Do we need all these extras? Why is everyone in this scene driving a Range Rover ? Can we shoot more scenes creatively in one location? All this saves $$ that can be better used in the production to give you TIME for the important elements of a production….. including SAFETY!
Sorry I might be being dim, currently in convalescence from Covid and binging the whole channel. 5:25 they start discussing "florries", I'm not sure I've heard of the term before, wondering if anyone can shed some light?
Im not 100% on this but… i believe that they are referring to LED light tubes ( like astera) and calling them fluore’s ( fluorescent) as they hold the same shape as an old fluorescent tube.
1. The spigot is just the mounting point to attach the light to a light-stand or a standard clamp. Usually the spigot itself is a part of the receiving thing (stand, clamp), but he just meant "make the practical lamp easily mountable with our standard gear". 2. Yep, the scenic painter will literally paint the set - often with something non-permanent, and often something that only darkens or matte-ens the underlying color.
Cooke is one of our lenses we film with exclusively. One of the best glass brands in the business!

I could be wrong and I'm just taking a guess, but I think its short for flourescent lights? Would love to have someone clarify this though!
Thanks both, that makes a lot of sense. I figured it was going to be something obvious that I hadn't heard the name of aha
@@CalHallows Flourie = LED tube lights like Asteras, Quasars, Pavotubes ...
What did he mean by putting spigots in the lamps. What is that?
Also is he saying the scenic painter would actually go in and paint the wall?
