I really liked this book too. I first checked out the audio version from the library and listened to it while working out. I liked it so much that I purchased it so I could make notes and reread it. It's one of those books you want everyone you know to read & take to heart.
Your review of the book was spot on, well articulated and interesting. I admire you for wanting to challenge your beliefs. It takes real courage to look deep within, review your belief system and be willing to admit you were wrong- sometimes.

I just finished reading this book and saw on Goodreads that you reviewed it so had to come check it out! I want to incorporate many of the ideas into my personal and professional life. I have to admit some of it was uncomfortable to read as I was someone who loves “best practices” at work. The only piece missing for me was what Malcolm Gladwell did in Talking To Strangers - Adam didn’t discuss where rethinking may not be beneficial. He mentions in the epilogue situations where preaching or prosecuting could be a good choice. Regardless, I enjoyed the book and your review!

It would be interesting to study if the older we get the harder it is for us to change our opinions. To piggyback on that, is it companies with younger executives who are able to pivot easier? Great review. My husband will love this book as well. Have a lovely weekend. Stay safe out there.

Cool. I haven't read the book. I have changed a lot of opinions in my life. I've changed social groups. One thing that really helped was the intuitive sense. "They keep using that word. I do not think they mean what we think they mean." People can have backgrounds complete with vocabulary, concepts, and frameworks you've never heard before.

Great review, Olive! I change my opinion on at least one thing every year. It doesn't have to be anything big, but I enjoy looking at things from different perspective, it's part of my growth. And I'll read/watch things made by people I disagree with, first to see things from their angle, then to try to see why they think the way they do and finally, to have base for a solid conversation with them if I need to have one.
And I stopped reading introductions to books, mainly because I read a spoiler once (for a fiction book), but sometimes I'll go back and read it after I finish the book.

Thanks for your take on this book. I am in the first section of the book. This is not a book I would read. My interest in the book came from an interview of Grant on a news show. The best takeaway so far has been my inner dialogue as I read, boy have I a need to rethink!

This is almost embarrassing to admit. A few years ago I fell into (completely by accident) the sort of proto GamerGate Alt right ish side of RUclips. Algorithms took note of course. I was not in a good headspace at the time and not being American I lacked a lot of context. Also had a bout of illness that confined me online (you know, more than usual lol.) Those growing echo chambers started to really affect my opinions on a variety of things. Subtly at first but gradually, thanks to being in a really bad headspace like I said. It started to really affect the way I thought about things. Then I regained some more solid ground and was somewhat jolted back to “reality.” I think.
Realising just how toxic I had become. Did a purge and felt stupid. Now I’m extra careful about all my thoughts. I try to constantly examine them. So this book review might be a sign Lol
