    "Genius" is the right word. Novak did the most difficult thing in all of sport: Figure out how to beat Rafa at RG.

      Nadal only played 95% his top game... Mentally this entire tournament he shifted i'm sure accidentally just a bit to much to a defensive posture... He was playing not to lose rather than to win . On clay especially he disables his opponents mentally and physically by his defensive counter attacks shot making... chosen moments to go after high risk low percentage shots in seemingly defeated positions or at well chosen times in rallies. This frustrates opponents by destroying their game plan and cutting the confidence of their game (This was MISSING the ENTIRE tournament and i think he started alluding to that in his final post match interview)... i was worried he was going to get beat before Djok but 95% Nadal is still enough to muscle past most but not enough to get past Djok. This was a a FANTASTIC match and Djok is INCREDIBLE no doubt but that wasn't 100% Nadal.. and hats off to Djok for being probably the only one in Tennis capable of exploiting it.

    • @2CSST2
      @2CSST2 3 года назад +47

      @Ryo Sushuke Djokovic definitely has a stronger mentality than Federer, and so does Nadal, but to say Federer has the weakest mentality on tour is just stupid, and actually takes away from Djokovic. It makes it (falsely) seem as though Djokovic just exploited a weak mentality player to beat Federer. That's not true, Federer actually has a strong mentality but Djokovic's is so up there that he actually manages to break it.

      @@Neo-wj5pj Rafa fan here, but I agree Novak is just a beast. Not the most elegant, but the most effective. I rate him higher than Nadal because of his diversity, but only slightly higher, because hard court favours a certain type of game, like clay. And Nadal's domination of clay is bigger than Novak's domination of hard court. The skillset of Novak is much more balanced and rounded, while Nadal's is at the zenith in certain areas.
      We can only imagine what they would have achieved if they belonged to different eras. 30+ GS for both! Legends.

      @@rishabh454 Djokovic's domination of hard courts is equal to Nadal's domination of clay. Nadal has 13 GS titles on clay (all FO obviously), Djokovic has 12 GS titles on hard courts (9 AO's and 3 USO's) and hopefully 13 later this year. Just to give perspective of how dominant Djokovic is on hard courts. Throw in 5, and hopefully a 6th Wimbledon in 6 days along with 2 FO's, and he's clearly both diverse and dominant. He may still win yet another FO, I think he can beat Nadal again in Paris...not easy of course, but Novak may have a game plan that really only he can execute. He also has a high probability of another 2-4 hard court grand slams and 2-4 more Wimbledon's in him beyond this year.

Just when like me many people thought that these two will rule the tennis world for the next decade. But in the year 2008 came another legendary player who won first of his many Australian Opens name Djokovic at that time I was 17. Since 2001 these 3 have ruled the world tennis and have 59 slams between all of them. There was an initial rise of Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka but they couldn't maintain that consistency still winning 3 slams is no joke. I will be turning 30 this December and I can consider myself lucky that I am still seeing the greatest players of the tennis-playing day in day out and the best part is Djokovic and Nadal can still play for minimum of another 3 years considering the fact that Federer can still play even when he is turning 40. Federer still reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2021. These 3 are not only winning slams after slams even after 30 but even defeating younger players than them like Zverev, Thiem, Tsitispas regularly. The younger guys only got a golden chance when all big 3 pulled out of last years US Open. In short, we should stop this debate of who is the GOAT of Tennis because even if we analyse each one we will never be able to get the proper and satisfactory answer.

    I feel that somehow just this duel, i.e. Djokk against Tsitsi, is the right one in the sence of a test between those two ways of playing and skills...Tsitsi is somehow more like a machine, system, with that fantastic one hand backhand very similar to Federer's, Djokk - well we all have seen it, plus much more impulsive, row and unpredictible power. I vote for Nole, of course!

      I don't feel bad for Rafa, he already established his clay court legacy for centuries to come. He can retire tomorrow and will still be remembered for his clay court greatness - 13 slams at RG alone - incredible. Novak was the better player and Rafa congratulated him and said that these things can happen when the guy across the net on Novak's calibre plays that way. There is nothing wrong with losing to Djokovic, and Rafa knows it. Novak looks like he will make history on Sunday based on how he beat Rafa. We can feel bad for Rafa but happy for Novak. That is sport, one guy has to win and another guy has to lose, and Rafa took the loss really gracefully. This was an epic match, I enjoyed watching no matter the winner. With this performance I really hope Novak will beat Tsitsipas, and I believe he will. I am sure Rafa has a few French Open titles left in him.

    • @GokulRG
      @GokulRG 3 года назад +3

      @@pacifist1360 I think it's very tough for Rafa to win another GS. When Djokovic has figured out how to beat him in his own backyard, it's very tough. Also Nadal's game takes a lot more out of him physically than Federer's or Djokovic's. So it's very difficult in my eyes for Nadal to win another slam. Because AO and Wimbledon he never wins. His only chances are US open and RG. And US open is much more difficult for Nadal vs Djokovic than is RG. I've lost all hope that Nadal will win another GS title.

    As I reflect back over the last 15 years and the journey that Novak has been on it seems more apparent that he may end up being the GOAT. I’ve had RF there for many years, I just feel now that Novak has elevated his mental and physical game to a level that may allow him to win multiple additional slams over the next 2-3 years.(assuming none of the young guns don’t find the next level) It’s hard to argue that he was highly favored to win the US OPEN if not for the ball in the throat disaster. That’s 19 and tomorrow could be 20. With Wimbledon, US OPEN and Australian coming up and the form he’s showing now I’d wouldn’t bet against him. The great blessing for me is to be privileged to have watched the best grinder of all time Rafa, the greatest tennis technician ever, Federer and the greatest competitor, Novak. Which one will history decide is the GOAT doesn’t matter, it’s been an amazing decade and a half and I’d been remiss not to mention that all three have been exemplary examples for future generations of players. It’ll be a sad day for tennis when they’re gone!

    TLDW: Nole hit the ball on the rise, to give Nadal less time. Because he had to get used to the heavy spin, he was 0-5 in the first.
    Actually, he went for Nadal's backhand, that didn't work that well. Also, the court got slower so Nadal's inside out forehand was not that damaging as usual.
    It reminded me of that AO final, where Nole went for Nadal's forehand side and hitting on the rise, until Nadal got making a lot of UE and thus his main weapon was neutralized.

Also in comparison, Tsitsipas and Zverev played a 5 setter in like three hours and the Nadal-Djoko sf was 4.5 hrs lol with the third set being 2 hours itself.That missed volley by Nadal in the tiebreak still hurts like a bitch tho. But now he's a 14 time RG title so it's a little better.

    There is no strategy analysis in this video. I am going to tell you what went wrong with Nadal: (i) His backhand. His crossed backhand is often too short, and he had plenty of opportunities to shoot a good backhand down the line, but he did not do that at all, instead, he went with more secured shots and moonballs on Djokovic's backhand. Biggest mistake he made against Djokovic. (ii) Serves: one of the worst performance from Nadal. If I were Nadal, I would hire a new (and great) coach asap to get some fresh gameplays, his game needs to change as he spends way too much energy on the court.

Like I have no problem now accepting the fact that Djokovic is the tennis player that has achieved the impossible and deserves to be where he stands. By the end of this era he will be the best in history having fought against the other 2 greatest tennis legends of all time that in an awesome arc that started 20 years ago have motivated one another to stay at the top constantly. They produced the best tennis in history and any tennis lover with a minimum of intellectual honesty will recognise this
