Djokovic may be GOAT, Nadal the greatest fighter, Federer the most sublime and Alcaraz the greatest talent... but Danil Medvedev has to be in contention for the most cerebral player ever. After that humiliating defeat at IW at the hands of Alcaraz. And the embarrassing defeat at the hands of Rafa in the AO final, probably playing in his mind...Meddy did his homework. Using his frankly limited repertoire of shots, he was able to execute, perfectly, his plan and basically stifle Alcaraz. It's one thing having a watertight plan against a beast like Carlos Alcaraz. But executing it flawlessly, with the finite tools available, is pure genius. Medvedev is the giant killer and a cerebral mastermind.
For one so "cerebral" he's yet to figure out and feel comfortable on a clay and grass court mid way into his career. Returning serve from row Z doesn't work for him on clay and grass against the best players but he does the same thing over and over expecting a different result. I don't find that to be evidence of high tennis IQ.
Medvedev is having arguably his best year in 2023 with 5 titles already (includes 2 Masters) even though he has had some hiccups . Back in 2021 he won his only Grand Slam here at USO by beating Djokovic in straight sets! 2021 was the year when Djokovic won 3 of the 4 Grand Slams.

@@francis900LOL. Great. Just make sure to be alive till then😂
Not yet to call him the goat, but he is doing what the goats would do, and if he keeps on that for 10 15 years he might be one of them
Well Alcaraz certainly has the tools to beat anyone in todays tennis. However, pushers like Medvedev, Djokovic become favorites if one goes all in on attack mode, to beat them have to be very patient and have versatile game plan, and a lot of stamina. Anyhow, joy to watch over any pusher.
The look of determination on Meddy's face was a sight to see.
I'm a Carlos fan, but Meddy outplayed Carlos tonight. Congrats, Meddy, go get that trophy on Sunday!!
Medvedev outplayed him hard and would win anyone at the moment. Novak and Roger could win only if they are at top form and younger.
Meddy will remember Nole daddy on sunday, I can sure u that.
@@qqlanenobecause Nole its more cunning than the rest😉
@@TrueNarrative-n9r Come on now. Don't start talking like Nolecult.
MOST players do their winning when they're 'at top form & younger'. Federer, Djokovic and Meddy are ALL alike in that way.
Meddy's young, at his peak physically, & was in top form yesterday. As he himself said, he played 12 out of 10. Let's hope he can summon that same level for the match on Sunday.
But he's not the second coming, & he's not the greatest to ever play tennis. Let him be who he is: a smart, hardworking, exceptionally talented & still-improving tennis player who is also funny & a deep thinker.
Прекрасная новость, чертов Медведь красавчик. Выдержка и самообладание на высшем уровне. Верим и зажмем кулаки, впереди ещё один монстр

Carlos lost his momentum purely because of his repeated unsuccessful drop shots. Drop shot was his weapon at Indian wells to beat Medvedev. But this time Medvedev came well prepared to deffend that. I fact overall, Medvedev played a wonderful game. He is very disciplined and gentle player.

Thank you, Medvedev. Now the media will shut up for the next few days about Alcaraz!
Such disrespect towards a former champion before this match and it was nauseating!!!
Very happy that Medved won, a humble person. Alcaraz is a haughty and braggart person.
Both displayed a top 1 level tennis this match, but Meddy was just something else on this one. If he can keep this level into the final, I think he is gonna get his second Grand Slam this sunday.
Medvedev is one of the best HC players EVER
Hah one of the best now, EVER not even close, he has only one US Open and 5 Atp Masters titles on HC, how with that numbers you can say he is one of the best HC EVER???
@@milenkoivanisevic5879 You can certainly accuse OP of being carried away by the moment, but in 5 seasons since 2019 Medvedev has reached 3 US Open finals, 2 Australian Open finals, and 2 ATP Finals. That’s a pretty remarkable record in such a short span, and off the top of my head very few players can match that record across 5 seasons

Daniil taught the kid some lessons and gave him another much needed dose of humility. Go Daniil!
Alcaraz seemed to be too anxious, maybe needed to take the ball a little back on the court.

Before the match I thought Alcaraz was unstoppable. But Medvedev made impossible possible.
Alcaraz unstoppable for the massmedia.
@@milton4yexactly! I become a bigger Alcaraz fan after that Novak mimic of a Shelton and his excuse of stealing it because he likes it. Just want more players to be able to beat boring Novak. Also, Shelton playing lose is so cool to see and made watching Alcaraz more fun against Novak
@@sawyer7191 Borring Novak? He is the Best.
@@milton4y congratulations on Novak being the GOAT! I say, the talent of Federer is unmatched, regardless of the talents. Federer and Nadal are inspirational, Novak is about accomplishments. Still congratulations to Novak on the 24th and most likely more to come. It’s just not inspirational

Medvedev played out of his mind, fantastic performance. He deserves to win the title, for having the toughest draw of the top 3 seeds. But the last step will be the hardest. If he can make it, it will be his biggest win ever, even bigger than 2021.
This was one of the best matches ive seen! I also saw it live on my TV, it was insane.
NOVAX is not a GOAT till he wins 25 slams,
Margaret Court is the GOAT with 24 slams !!
Djokovic the GOAT?? For what?
@@robertmartin7594hahah where does that bring you ? Back to jealousy😂
"the giant killer" - that's right.

Alcaraz thinking he’s unbeatable, Shelton being arrogant :)

when didi alcaraz think hes unbeatable lol. either way, medvedev had to play basically perfect to beat him. rest assured, alcaraz will win 8/10 of matches like these.
Right on. I am so glad arrogant and noisy shelton was silenced. Seems like Alcaraz is a nice guy on and off court but he's too noisy too so I am glad he also got humbled.
The grown men had enough
After a devastating loss like this, especially when you were considered the outright favorite... players, male and female alike, storm out of the court with their head down. Most sulking and others are cursing.
Carlos Alcaraz is built differently. He had the humbleness to high-five all the fans who had their hands extended out near the exit. Shows you that he doesn't take the defeat too personally. He will bounce back soon enough.
great result for tennis as sport , loved it. Great to see the Meddy back in business. Go for it you deserve it. Great lesson for alcaraz
Watching Medvedev win live at the US open was so satisfying, especially as majority of the crowd were simping for Carlos.
This is without a doubt the best I have seen Medvedev play this year along with the Miami 100 final when he outplayed Sinner
Medvedev has to put himself along with Alcaraz and Djokovic...Incredible
