Part of getting old is getting used to the things you can no longer do. Rafa trying to defend every point like he is 25 is not going to work anymore. Why he stood so far back to return serve, didnt try to hit more winners in the rallies, seemingly thought the opponent would just miss, I dont understand. And if he can defend well enough, he won't be able to do it match after match after match
Absolutely... He has one of the best net games on tour and yet he stays very far from the baseline, playing in a very predictable way... This is also why I always say his team is extremely dated and he needs to find someone else to improve his game (especially his serve, OMG), otherwise you can't win matches only with the defence at 38. I'm always called "a hater" for stating these facts, but it's just the reality...
Rafa, the question is: have you stopped learning as a player, given your current circumstances??? you know, with a clarity beyond clear, that you cannot play a four-hour match and then hope to be as alert and energized in the next match. the goal therefore must be to keep points short and fast. and that means perhaps learning to anticipate and execute quick points at the net whenever the opportunity presents itself. you can no longer play the exact same game on clay when you were 19 years old. you are almost 20 years older. so, have you stopped learning? because if you have and insist on playing the same game over and over again, then you clearly have not understood that the game has moved on. the score would have been 6-0 6-0 with Alcaraz or Sinner; Borges is a reasonably good player, but he really is not in the uppermost levels of the game. and you lost to him because, in the previous match, you decided to play the same game. you have stopped learning. and therefore must seriously think about retiring.
And on top of that he's not serving well,he suffers because he depends too much of his 38 years old body,he can't handle long rallies anymore,he needs to shorter the points sharping his serve, otherwise it's over,he will only go so far because he will always fight with energy against him, either himself or young players.

Too hasty IMO. He's played very few matches the last months, then played a succession of long matches without a day off. He should definitely play several tournaments to discover his true current best level. As for destroying his legacy - be serious; several great players continued long after their last GS. Only the best years count towards a champion's legacy; e.g., no one cares much about McEnroe struggling in the early 90s, they rightly only consider his sublime peak years from 1980-84.
