These were produced from 1981 to 1984, so the electronics are nearly forty years old. Hit-and-miss results does sound like the behavior of a discrete component breaking down with age, such as: a resister, capacitor, or transistor. But, be sure not to use a lens hood or get your fingers too near the blue-colored focus sensors above the lens as it will throw off the focus. Be sure they are clean and not fogged. Focus is measured in that tiny center-marked zone (it's pretty small). If you need to offset your subject, focus on it and focus-lock, then recompose, and then push the shutter the rest of the way down. Other things that can cause focus problems: highly reflective surfaces like water or shiny metal; non-reflective objects like flames, or very dark subjects including hair; shooting through a reflective glass window; very dark scenes with bright objects like signs. It can't focus closer than about 3.3 feet.
Was thinking about buying one of these earlier that came up but she wanted 30 dollars and i couldnt test it and she wouldnt give me more info on it. Glad after seeing how bad it is with auto focus that i didnt waste the 30 dollars. even if it had worked as well as this one does i dont want to spend 10 dollars per roll of film with processing for most of the shots to be crappy.
I own that camera. My mom bought it for me when I was 12. There’s really nothing special about it but it works. Takes decent enough photos. The ISO only goes from 100 to 400. If you use 200 speed film you can always trick the meter up or down one spot by turning the ISO dial to 100 or 400. It’s about the only thing you can do to deviate from 100% camera control.
@@user-ub9sn7dq3h by giving the meter a wrong film speed you can trick camera to overexpose or underexpose one or two stops. If you’re using 200 and you set the camera for 100 it will overexpose one stop. And if you set for 400 it will underexpose.
I have a few problems with mines. I have issues with the button getting stuck/not allowing me to press it. The camera keeps making noise like it’s rewinding but the rewind release on the bottom is stuck inside and the camera is getting hot. Do you know how to fix these. Issues.
Reyndall Fajota Hi! Thanks for watching! For lenses I like to use a moistened lens cleaning cloth or a micro fibre cloth. For the inside of the camera compressed air works great!
That’s a good question actually! The camera will operate without film in it. You just have to make sure you wind the film advance till you get to the 1.
Wow, all those images were completely not in focus or nowhere near sharp. While this camera and it simple yet sharp optics should really deliver. So something was definitely wrong with the camera, the lab that scanned the photos or user error.
Yes I think you’re right. My camera was faulty as I know plenty of other people now that have no problems with this camera. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Amazing info! Very helpful thank you!
I have owned 3 of them and I have always been happy with them. Seems to work great for street photography with a roll of ilford HP5.
Looks like autofocus is hit or miss, but I really like the fact that it takes common AA batteries - Nice review!
I see you everywhere lol

I feel lucky that my Hi-Matic has produced such great shots. I don't typically have any issues with the focus on mine. I'm sorry yours is spotty.
Yeah! I’ve seen you get some great results on your channel. I guess it wasn’t meant to be for me haha
i have the same cam and its sharp asf and the focus is like 90%. i just think you have a faulty cam

K. Theodos That’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing!
thanks for your comment. but i don't get how to trick the meter, i'm using a 200 speed film, what should i do with the ISO dial?

hey any reason why my flash doesn't light up and work/charge ?
Do you have a video of how to load the film into this camera please?

Hey does the film need to be In, in order to the flash to charge then work??
can i ask how you got the photos from the camera/film? onto your ipad?
Sunshine M Good question! I have a scanner that can scan 35mm film that I use. It connects to my laptop and then I share them from there.
Just started using this last week and I'm still unsure how to clean it if it gets a little dusty. *sorry for my lack of knowledge for cameras.*

My shutter is stuck after putting the film any help
Stupid Question but do I need film for this cameras flash and Auto Focus to Work?

where do you get the films from
I bought most of those from a website call BuyFilm Canada. They were great to deal with.
what type of film does it take
It takes 35mm film.
