Yes!!! So happy to hear it worked for you Even when the contacts look clean these AF2 cameras are super sensitive.... so a quick wipe down with vinegar can do the trick! 🎉
Oh man this was the perfect video for me to land on! I found one of these cameras at goodwill for $7. It had a strap, case, and was in good condition. I didnt check at the store but there were ancient batteries left in it and a pile of corrosion left behind lol. After a few minutes of scraping i put some new batteries in and heard that whine from the flash. I came straight to this video and it seems to work perfectly after learning a trick or two. Thanks!
Nice find! Love that it worked for you! These AF2 cameras often have corroded batteries left inside and 50% of the time work once cleaned up! Glad the video helped! 🎉
Just got one for $50 and even came with a close-up +1 lens filter and its original case! As soon as I put some batteries in the thing worked like a charm, even the flash went off first try. It actually looks like somebody cleaned the corrosion beforehand too so no idea why they sold it so cheap! Great video, these cameras are great for passing around at a party because of their ease of use. The beeping is a quirky feature that people seem to like.
Great video! Picked one of these up for $12 at my local thrift store and couldn't figure out why the shutter button was stuck. Seems I just didn't know how to operate the camera lol. Time to flip! Thanks!
Hi! Hope you see this! Just got my hands on one of these, everything works except I don’t get any beeping sounds when shooting :( Ever come across anything like that? Walked around and shot a roll of film, waiting to get those scans back! But now I’m wondering if no beeps mean the autofocus is shot lol.
Thank you so much for your reply!! After watching your video and others, it actually doesn’t beep even in low light situations. Did a few tests in my room, with different lighting situations. The good thing is flash works and loads up fast, so I guess I just have to wing it?
@amghychacon8575 yeah beep is kind of annoying anyway! There are some situations where you don’t want the flash in low light conditions so I think it’s a plus! 🎉
Ahh, thanks again dude. Feeling a little more optimistic about it now with this conversation! Crossing my fingers my scans turn out alright. Appreciate your time getting back to me!
I guess I forgot to mention it also doesn’t beep if I’m out of it’s focus range too. So, I don’t know when I’m in good range or not~ I put my hand in front of it like some other folks have done to get that notification, but she ain’t talking to me! lol.
Hi, great video!! I just got this Minolta at a thrift store and everything seems fine, but the flash does not load. Could you help me with some of the reasons why this usually happens and how could I fix it if possible to try?
Thanks! Nice find! Try wiping the battery contacts with white vinegar. Sometimes flash isn’t getting enough juice and that helps. Let me know what you find! 🎉
Great video! I just love old Minolta cameras, I guess my collection of cameras I've salvaged and will resell "someday" and those I saved for personal use or amusement is growing a little large but I'm actually hoping to get one of this model very soon that's been tested in a camera store already for functionality and been cleared. It just need a good polish and personal inspection but I'm positive ir can be rated as good cosmetic condition. If the deal goes through I'm also paying about $20.
@@RightCameraShop Sadly someone offered way more so it didn't work out, but hey I got ~10-15 other Minoltas laying around waiting for me st home already so I'm busy until I get a new chance.
Hmmm not usually a good sign. That usually has to do with the self timer having an issue. Is it stuck? If not that something internal. Simple things like rewind button engaged and try opening and closing film door. Otherwise I’m afraid it’s might be bricked.
is there a way to get rid of the shutter squeek mine has? have installed oil on a canon a-1 before but cant figure out where to put the oil in the minolta af2 thanks in advance!
Hi there, thanks for sharing this video. I have a Minolta AF 2 hi-matic camera and although there is no corrosion in the battery compartment, I am not getting any indication it's working with the batteries installed. No flash, no shutter sound and no beeps. I wonder if you have any ideas what could be preventing the camera from working. Also, I should tell you, I have no 35mm film to test it with either. I hope you can give me some pointers or advice. Thanks in advance. Richard w
Hey Richard! Couple things to try if you haven’t already. 1. Wipe battery compartment contacts with white vinegar on a qtip. 2. Use a tool to pry up the contacts to make sure they are making full contact with batteries (I use a dental pick). 3. Press the battery door up while you attempt to fire camera. Let me know if any of these solve your issue. 👍
help😭 i thrifted one years ago and it’s just sat on my shelf. the shutter doesn’t work. i’m able to wind but the button stays stuck down. - haven’t tested w batteries though or film
You definitely need batteries to get the shutter to work. Use the white vinegar trick to make sure it's drawing full power. Also make sure you advance camera to "1" first or the button won't push down. 👍
Using a dummy film doesn’t test the camera light seals. I had to return a camera sold as tested but there were marks on the film because the light seals were not perfect. Until we shoot a roll of film, we will not know how good the light seals are.
@@RightCameraShop took a film photography class in high school like 7 yrs ago but never really kept up with it until about 3yrs ago. I mainly shoot with my Minolta x-700
I have an exact model as yourself, it worked for a few days but now the film advance lever is stuck and makes the shutter button stuck too. I don't know exactly what to do beside changing the batteries, which I've done already, but nothing changed. Do you have any ideas on this issue?
try cleaning the battery contacts with white vinegar. make sure you are advancing the film to 1. try to lift the battery contacts up.... might not be making full contact. hopefully one of those things work! let me know!
Hey man, my flash is not working. How long did you have the batteries inside before it started to work on your camera? Im still hoping its not the capacitor inside the camera
Yeah these are notorious for bad flashes. I usually leave batteries in for about 15 minutes or more before trying again. Make sure to give contacts a wipe down with white vinegar and pull up on contacts to make sure full contact. Short of that sadly you have a daylight only camera.. 👎
My rewind knob doesnt move when i advance the film. This means the film isnt moving and the camera is most likely broken right? Want to confirm before i open the back... Thanks for the help.
Hmmm I don’t think the rewind knob is supposed to move when you advance film. Rewatch the video… doesn’t move when I advance the film. What issue are you experiencing exactly?
@@RightCameraShop Its does move? Look closely at 5:46, the winder moves 180 degrees. Im afraid that the film inside is not advancing, this is my first roll on this camera :)
@@RightCameraShop The advance lever works, but i cant know if its actually moving the film inside to the next frame. Yes the rewinder on the right of the camera that spins. Not too sure then. Sorry. I don’t have one of these in front of me right now. I don’t think the rewind spins when it advances. But I’m going off memory and from what I can see in my video. 🤷♂️
I recently acquired on of these and am having an issue of getting the frame counter to reset to “s”, I can get it back to 1 after numerous opening of the door but never back to “S”. Any ideas?

Yes don’t use a new roll of film if you haven’t already! You’ll want to create a dummy roll for testing. Use an previously used roll. There is a link in the description to the tool you’ll need to retrieve film from this used roll. Then you can test until your heart is content! 🎉
