One of the little details that makes Berserk such a phenomenal series has to be the finale of Lost Children. The entire mini-arc has been focused on showing a young girl, Jill, struggling with the bullshit of life, and being tempted to throw it all away and become a demon to escape those hardships. Guts shows up, does his demon-slaying thing, and towards the end Jill is completely overwhelmed by everything and begs Guts to take her away, anywhere is fine, just let her escape from the struggle she had to deal with in this village. However Guts tells her that there's no paradise to escape to, there will always be another battlefield waiting for you, and as he walks away into the morning mist, he tells her to return to her battlefield. What makes that moment so touching is that Guts doesn't belittle her struggle. She's a 14-ish year old girl, struggling with poverty, an abusive father, and a neglectful mother. Meanwhile Guts is an adult who was raped as a kid, had an abusive adoptive father he accidentally killed, has been constantly fighting in wars and battles for his entire life, got betrayed by his closest and most trusted friend, watching as all his companions were torn apart by demons, and lost absolutely everything. His struggle is just on a completely different scale to Jill's, she doesn't even come remotely close to the level of suffering Guts has gone through. And yet, he treats her battlefield as no different than his. To her, this is the most agonizing fight she has ever dealt with, and so he treats it with the same respect that he treats his own struggle. Even if the specific actions they are dealing with are on completely different levels, emotionally, they both feel the same, and so to Guts there is no difference in scale between them. Even if one person technically is struggling more than another, we are all struggling, and overcoming that struggle is worth respect, no matter how large the battlefield is.

Sisyphus, after rolling the same boulder for so long, became bored and stopped rolling it. Hades, rather annoyed at this fact, came to him and demanded he continued. Sisyphus told Hades to make him and at that moment Hades realized that Sisyphus, after rolling an entire boulder for countless years nonstop, had gained the physique of the Incredible Hulk. Hades thought on this fact for a good second, and, with his Godly wisdom and cunning wit, decided to let Sisyphus leave and do whatever. Tbh, I don't think there's anything wrong with giving up. Sometimes, the burden is just too much. Ultimately, it's up to everyone individually - whether you choose to live on or not. But there is power in realizing that. If you are alive, it is because you want to live. And that means you are free to choose a reason to live - you don't have to follow a set standard.
It’s crazy how the Indomitable Human spirit memes have done more for mens mental health than anything in the last 10 years has. However I do have one question how does the indomitable human spirit face off against the cold dark unmerciful Sunday night?

That Everything Everywhere All At Once mention reminds me of the reason why it’s my favorite movie. Not only does it perfectly mix comedy and story, but the theme is absolutely incredible and could be useful for everybody. It’s one of if not the only movie I’d genuinely recommend beyond just “haha it’s cool go watch it guys” The theme essentially says that yes, there are so many universes where the world you live in is better; there are infinitely many universes where life can just straight up be better for you. But you have to remember that, although there are as many universes where your life is better, there are also as many as there are where you’re off worse. And even then, if you’re current life can be better, take a moment to look back, and view those small little moments where you do find some joy. It doesn’t have to be so big. Those little things in life can and will make you feel the happiest if you pay enough attention. If you can’t find anything, then go on and make it yourself. Go ahead and follow whatever weird and stupid interests you have, no matter how people react. At the end of the day, nothing matters, so why not be happy? The movie flips that last sentence on its head from being a depressing sentence to a hopeful one. It’s such a beautiful way to think and I’ve always had a similar philosophy. It’s further represented by the googly eyes that are used as a symbol in the movie and especially in the trailers. It’s a small thing, but it’s a really silly thing. Putting it on things makes you laugh for being so mundane. But that little moment of funniness is what makes life life Sorry for my tangent, but I just really love this movie and I think everybody, especially nowadays, could take a lesson from Everything Everywhere All At Once. It is a genuine 11/10
I'd argue doomguy in the first two games is a decent example of the indominable human spirit. A man literally contesting with demons to avenge his rabbit using their own devices against them and human guns gut wrenching running around trying to avoid damage as he struggles yet still moves forward despite the pain. (He became something somewhat inhuman post 2016 but it does interest me how he seems borderline on the road to demonhood because of his lack of empathy and how much he seems emotionless.)
"Stare at the abyss for long enough, and the abyss stares back" "He who fights monsters should see to it that he does not become a monster in the process" Both are quotes by Nietzsche (not exact quotes, but close enough)
@@spinyslasher6586 I mean to the fact he literally doesn't even react to finding out demons were once humans or blowing a hole into mars as examples from eternal. And if he is nothing but anger that just makes him a sinner already on the road to being a demon everyone tends to forget unyielding wrath is a sin same with pride tbh.
However, the blood of Minos stains V1's hands, and he must admit, he's curious about it's skills. And so, before he tears down the cities, and crushes the armies of Heaven... it, shall do as an appetizer.
The idea of fighting against your fate regardless of what it has in store for you is also demonstrated in Pathologic 2 and Jojo Bizzare Adventure specifically part 5 as fate is a major theme. At the end of the story a stand user named Scolippi explains how that all the characters that died in the part were going to die regardless but that the fact they revolted against their fate until their very end, gave their life a greater meaning. As he states, “So naive, do you really believe this is… the end? If only you had accepted the stone’s mercy, all would be peaceful. But you chose to remain enslaved to Fate. That which is carved in stone cannot be changed. Whoever you are, I hope you are ready. The perilous journey of hardship awaits. And for some of you… it will be the last one. I wonder.. are all of you like him? That young man flung himself off a tall building… all for a chance to save his friend. Perhaps… the path you are bound to walk isn't one of meaningless suffering. The adversity you’ll endure may well be the crucible of hope for another. And perhaps could be the birth of a greater purpose. Wishing for their safety will do nothing. I can only hope that they are Sleeping Slaves. That's it… Sleeping Slaves who will eventually awaken to discover some meaning in their suffering…”
Another thing to add is that we can take joy out of sacrifice; we can put work and suffering in to create something good that pleases us or that we can share with other people, and then we feel happy on account of creating that happiness, therefore multiplying the amount of joy in the universe (this infinite renewable happiness glitch is the solution to the so-called "zero-sum game of life")
Jojo is just so fucking good man. The way it develops ideas such as fate and the human spirit throughout all of the series (though mainly in parts 5 and 6) is beautiful
There is another part of this story in which if Sisyphus succeeded (which was Impossible) he would be given immortality. I think it adds a lot to the story because it shows Sysiphus actually chooses to push the stone.
EEAAO literally made me break down and reevaluate myself. The idea that "everything is terrible, so why bother caring" was around me so much that I was breaking down and finally starting to accept it. And then here comes a movie that goes "everything is terrible and nothing matters, which is why we have to be kind and love and have hope and MAKE things matter", and I have never felt more validated in my life. I need to rewatch that movie again, I need a good reminder.
Camus, a RAID: Shadow Legends ad, Berserk, RUclips, meme, shit posts, absurdism and nihilism. Such an obvious combo, how did no one do this before. An absolute masterpiece.
Can't believe you made a whole video about the story of Sisyphus and it's resurgence without mentioning returnal, that game wears it's Sisyphean influences on its sleeve like no other, I won't go into more detail as I don't want to spoil this brilliant game and even if I tried I probably couldn't explain it well as I'm not even sure I fully understand it myself so for anyone that owns a ps5 and is intrigued by sisyphean, nihilistic and even lovecraftian themes I high highly urge you to try it!
Similarly, a passing mention to Hades in which, while not looking to reference Camus’ take on Sisyphus, came out with a Sisyphus you can meet that is very much in line with that phrase.
This video gave me chills, especially the meme around 8:42 . This has given me the inspiration to carry on and do my work with joy. Thank you for making this video. Y'know, we all have a child inside of us. that sounds weird, but there's always that innate curiosity, that impeccable joy for simple or new things. Don't let that child die. Stay curious and fascinated. Live life to the fullest, find the joy in every moment of it. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep living. You are more than worth it.

@@homerlol9058 Nietzsche was not a nihilist throughout his life - he was during the time he met Wagner and that time period, and a lot of his work was about overcoming nihilism Edit: Also one the biggest influences on Camus was Nietzsche
Sisyphus is also mentioned by Nietzsche, it goes something like "one must imagine Sisyphus being happy". It's meant to represent the seeking nature of humans, what makes us happy is the pursuit, not the accomplishment itself, this is also backed-up by the neurology behind dopamine that's been discovered. Doctor Andrew Hubermann is a teacher at stanford and has a yt channel, a lot of his works is about this.

I find the meme so funny because the original mythos of Sysyphus told the story of truly TRULY despicable king that everyone hates, that did horrible things to get the crown, and then when it came the time for him to die he managed to trick death TWICE for how cunning and scheming the man was, and was utterly punished for his crimes against both life and death by pushing that rock in an eternal and useless struggle. The meme basically somehow turns that story upon its head and makes it seem like Sisyphus was some kind of gigachad of indomitable human spirit lmao gotta love how even in modern ages we manage to be just like our ancestors and come up with our own versions of the myths
It's media like Berserk, dark souls and other examples of "insignificant humans" struggling against the universe have brought me from dark places,it's thanks to the creations of fellow strugglers that I live happily and there isn't a day that I'll stop thinking as such, thank you all,you give the human experience a meaning that cannot be put into words.
I love how a millennia old greek myth about a guy who pulls a Saul Goodman on death and spends his time in the underworld pushing a rock up a hill has become a meme
As someone who does musical theater, that line in the meme about songs not existing just to end, but to be loved & listened too, and death only being the final act, of the beautiful play that's life... that's a perfect way of putting it. I don't preform just to get thought the show and be done with it. No. I do it to make people happy, laugh, and feel. I do it to make memories & friendships that with last a lifetime. and even though it's hard, rehearsing lines & songs everyday. It's worth it. just like life. Even though it's hard, and you have so much to learn and do, and even though it's scary, and even though you sometimes feel like it's not worth it. The performance you put on at the end is all worth it.
The main problem of the Myth is: If you roll a fucking BOULDER every day up a mountain, you´ll be so ripped and beefed up that you´ll just pick that shit up and carry it before resting the entire day on top of the mountain. So in that order: If you want to find the meaning in life, get SHREDDED.
Funnily enough, this technically is hopeposting. Talking about something depressing but powering through it as much as you can, no matter what, is pretty positive.
"However, the blood of Minos stains your hands, and I must admit, I'm curious about your skills, Weapon. And so, before I tear down the cities, and crush the armies of Heaven... you, shall do as an appetizer. Come forth, child of man, and DIE."
The man pissed off 2 gods and DEATH ITSELF, proceeded to trick them TWICE. And then, proceeded to accept his consequence without disobeying until the end of time. Absolute madlad.
This whole thing about Sisyphus is interesting because I feel like the message of the myth was very different. The myth moreso being about inevitability of death rather than the human spirit. Sisyphus was a man who cheated death twice, only to end up dead anyways. Then his punishment is a meaningless task that he has to do for all eternity. The myth is saying that death is inevitable and trying to escape from it is a pointless and fruitless task. Hence why the punishment is to push a boulder up a hill, only for it to roll down. But I feel like there's another side to the myth. A lot of people tie it to how the human spirit can push through anything it gives us, but I don't feel like that's what it means personally. To me, it feels like is more about embracing the inevitable and living your life to the fullest. We only have so much time on this world, and if we spend most of it the same way, our lives could end up meaningless and pointless. It's about breaking the cycle and spending as much time as you can to do as much as you can. By embracing that death will come one day, that frees you up to do so much more without the fear that you have not done enough. But that's the beauty of art. The greatest works have so many different ways of being interpreted. It's very possible that the myth was supposed to be a harsh and cold message, but overtime it transformed into something greater. And I think that speaks to the ingenuity and creativity of the human mind. Everyone will have a different perspective on the same thing, but we can all find a way.

It’s one of if not the only movie I’d genuinely recommend beyond just “haha it’s cool go watch it guys”
The theme essentially says that yes, there are so many universes where the world you live in is better; there are infinitely many universes where life can just straight up be better for you.
But that little moment of funniness is what makes life life
Sorry for my tangent, but I just really love this movie and I think everybody, especially nowadays, could take a lesson from Everything Everywhere All At Once.
"Stare at the abyss for long enough, and the abyss stares back"
"He who fights monsters should see to it that he does not become a monster in the process"
Both are quotes by Nietzsche (not exact quotes, but close enough)
Doomguy isn't emotionless. He has an emotion: pure, unfiltered rage.

As he states,
“So naive, do you really believe this is… the end?
W comment
Another thing to add is that we can take joy out of sacrifice; we can put work and suffering in to create something good that pleases us or that we can share with other people, and then we feel happy on account of creating that happiness, therefore multiplying the amount of joy in the universe (this infinite renewable happiness glitch is the solution to the so-called "zero-sum game of life")
Jojo is just so fucking good man. The way it develops ideas such as fate and the human spirit throughout all of the series (though mainly in parts 5 and 6) is beautiful
@@diegovaldes1408 so true, araki is an artistic genius even ignoring those story elements

It's funnier when you realize that Sisyphus made everyone temporarily immortal by accident before getting punished.

This came back ten months later
The main problem of the Myth is:
If you roll a fucking BOULDER every day up a mountain, you´ll be so ripped and beefed up that you´ll just pick that shit up and carry it before resting the entire day on top of the mountain.
So in that order: If you want to find the meaning in life, get SHREDDED.

Imagine a frictionless spherical Sisyphus on an infinite plane in a vacuum.
Hm.
Calculable physics, but not especially relatable.
It doesn’t have to be in an vacuum, considering how slow the guys moving the air resistance would be minimal.
I'm so happy people are finally understanding how to overcome this constant nihilism and negativity, it's about time people started being happy again
