In this video, Richard McMunn will teach you how to prepare for and pass a pre-recorded video interview!
WHAT IS A PRE-RECORDED VIDEO INTERVIEW? 01:03
A pre-recorded video interview is where you record your answers to several interview questions using a platform that is provided by the employer. Once you have recorded your answers on the platform, the interviewer will watch them and assess you. There is usually a time limit in which you must answer each question.
7 PRE-RECORDED INTERVIEW TIPS 06:15
TIP #1 - Dress professionally for the pre-recorded interview. Although the assessor will only see the top half of you, it is important to dress smartly. How you dress says a lot about your professionalism and your motivations for the position.
TIP #2 - It is perfectly acceptable to wear headphones and a mic during the pre-recorded interview, or you can simply speak into your device's built-in microphone.
TIP #3 - Make sure there are no background noises or distractions in the room or location you undertake the pre-recorded interview in.
TIP #4 - Speak clearly and concisely at all times during the pre-recorded video interview. Avoid rushing your answers and do not talk too fast.
TIP #5 - Smile, be positive, and look interested during the pre-recorded interview!
TIP #6 - Sit upright in the chair and maintain good body posture!
TIP #7 - When giving your answers to the interview questions, look into the webcam or camera within your device instead of the screen. This will take some practice!

I've completed one a while ago and unfortunately I found it awful. I find face to face interviews much easier as you're talking to a real person and it's amazing how much you are interacting with the interviewer. The visual and verbal connection with a human feels much more natural . . I think I've got another video this week and am absolutely dreading it. I can deal with sales, customer services, accounting, admin , team leader, etc etc, my skills etc doesn't include being a film presenter. I can deal with a teams interview as its with real people but talking to a screen just freaks me out.

I agree! It's totally unnatural, and I don't think it's a good reflection of the viability of the candidate for the job. It also invites bias, and unfair discriminatory judgement.

What are some tips that you can give to some person who has never done this before? It's not like everyone of us has experience with recording ourselves. I believe it might come naturally to people who are recording videos in TikTok, RUclips or Instagram, but for most people we struggle with nervousness and our recorded answers might turn out bad.

Dear Sir, English is not my mother language. However, I have been using it for several years in my professional career. I don't live in the countries where the English is dominantly spoken. I found a job interview opportunity a while ago at a company located in the UK. The interview was conducted online and it took 2 hours. The interviewers were the managers of the function. There was no HR representative. Unfortunately, I was not chosen for the 2nd round. I wish I had been given the reason why I had not been picked by the interviewers. This would have been comforting. Hello, sadly I found your video after my first ever vidcruiter interview. It was definitely an odd experience! I would recommend watching this video prior to your interview. Because a lot of the tips here are amazing and correct! I love the SEAT method. I have an question - what happens if I kept going over the time alotted for the question. I was having a tough time wrapping up...and then was rushed to get everything in is that going to have a negative impact on my chances of moving onto the next stage? Also, in the initial email they said have fun! Well, I am here to say...it was not fun. LOL.

With regards to practicing your answers, do you suggest writing them out as a document, and then reading them over and over aloud, until you remember them and can say them clearly. I ask this because I’m worried I’ll forget when I’m not looking at it!

I found your first answer way too long, yes the answer is brilliant, however in many pre recorded video interviews You get or 30 seconds or 1 minute to answer.
You can shorten it to make it work for you :) When's your interview?
Or how about this, DON'T ACCEPT pre-recorded interviews. Companies can use this material however they wish and it can be sold as training material for outsorucing firms.

Completely agree, just got an invitation to do one for a very big pharmaceutical company and I just cannot believe that apparently I am not worthy of their time to have a proper face to face interview. I'm supposed to answer one of the most important questions at the beginning stage to my laptop screen 🤦🏻♀️
I think if nobody accepts pre-recorded interviews the companies will left doing this kind of INhuman resources process
"!don't acecept" sometimes means do not go on the process though.
@@TheEternalScream I agree. However, with a lot of companies, the person to person interview is granted after successfully passing the pre-recorded interview.

I never got a reply from the company. I kept reaching out to them every week and they said they haven’t checked the video yet. I honestly did not have a good experience although the interviews wasn’t difficult. I just wish I was interacting with another person.

I just come across this platform. Im having a pre-recorded interview for remote technical support, I'm clueless on what to expect as this is a Customer Service Agent position. @@qw1205 hi yes I got the job I'm still working there. The interview wasnt hard at all. But I'd recommend reading the success profile (link found on jon description page). Make sure you use words associated with the success profiles. Prepare answers for basic scenarios like what did you do in this situation etc.. answer it with star technique. these recorded "interviews" are just another tool for an employer to discriminate their applicant pool without actually saying so.
i will refuse every single job that requires me to do these dehumanizing and insulting recordings and i hope everyone else does too because this is not and should not be the standard

@@CareerVidz because there is nothing an employer can gain by these videos besides knowing what i look like, what my race is, what i sound like, how anxious i am, what color my hair is, what style it is, how it is styled. its a tool for discrimination.
an employer literally told me they do this so they can "see" who the best fit for the position is. how is that not discriminatory? i dunno, if a potential employer cant take 5 minutes out of their PAID day to at least do a phone screening then i also cant take extra unpaid time out of my day to jump through more hoops after already tailoring my resume and cover letter to the specific job. it already tells me they dont value my time as a potential employee.
the thing is im not even sure anyone actually even reviewed my resume before offering the recorded interview, and why would they review it when they can prescreen through video "interviews" and then select from the pool of applicants that they think will fit their image. how is this not discriminatory?
Hi, thank you for your help. can i see all the questions beforehand at the start or does each question appear after each video in a pre recorded video. Also can i start and stop at different occasions and carry it on during a couple of days or does it have to be done in one sitting
This will depend on the company. However, most often than not you will not get to see all the questions at the start. Hope this helps!

I just got a "invite" to a pre-recorded video interview with Target. Needless to say, I gave them the THANKS BUT NO THANKS and promptly left a negative review in regards to their hiring process on Glassdoor. Job interview is a two-way street. Not only are you expected to be assessed by the employer, you are also entitled to assess the employer, to include their attitude and to ask questions to ensure a good fit. Pre-recorded interview is a violation of this balance, not to mention a grave disrespect to the applicants time, which in turn shows the employers that utilize them do NOT value their human resources.

I really like the way you helped ESL worker. I was educated by the Brits all my life but am living in America now. You positive attitude with the foreign workers put the Americans in SHAME. You should make a video to train the American managers how to help the foreign professional workers to gear up for the new working environment. GREAT.

I do have a question for you; I was injured at work, terminated because I could not go back and do my job, and had to be retrained in a new career. what do I say when they ask "why did you leave your last job"? I don't want to sound like a workers comp case and I did not claim workers comp.

Hello, I’ve been looking for dental nursing apprenticeships and recently I’ve applied to a few, but I received an email by a training provider directing me to complete a pre-recorded video and send it in so possible employers can look over it. I do not have experience and I have no clue how to start off the video and for one of the questions I have to give an example for what I do on a typical day but I am currently unemployed and have never had a job before. What would you say we should wear for a pre recorded interview?
My advice would be to wear the same as what you would wear to a face to face interview. I suggest wearing a suit :)
But I heard this video interview didn't watched by interview it's a machine who detect the facial expressions and key word if it true than how can we get prepared?

Hey there, I am in the process of submitting the PNP application and in the process I have uploaded an old version of my resume and gone past to page 7 of 10 . Now it does not allow me to go back to page 6 of 10 and upload my latest cv. Is there any recommendations ? Should I withdraw and try applying from the scratch ?
