I love the sax solo in the Ren & Stimpy theme song. Great playing. Another thing that’s fine about this app is that you can control the love dial with the modulation wheel. It allows for some really spontaneous selective playing.
I think you mentioned that before and I TOTALLY meant to mention that hat in the review! I watched Ren & Stimpy every Saturday morning as a kid (okay, teenager!) and always loved that theme!!
Nice one, Pete. I didn't know this was in the App Store. Thanks! It sounds great, authentic, and the controls are simple enough to tweak them with a free hand in order to get realistic variations. After an hour had passed, I had to stop myself from tinkering with this app. lol

Particularly with tracking. Has an ultra-low latency plus several instruments included, pitch shift, velocity, etc. that render virtual instruments very well for a cost effective price. With my guitar and SampleTank I track pianos, sax, brass, strings, even harmonica ! Great combination, imported into GarageBand easily through App Instrument.

Wow that really sounds good! A few tweaks to the velocity and I think you could get some good dynamics too. The app looks like it is well laid out. Check out Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street for a cool sax song. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, a little tweaking on the velocity would really enhance things too. Baker Street is one of the first tunes I played on this which you can listen to over on my Instagram. (RUclips gets a little more picky with copyright so I didn’t play it in this demo!)
Haha! Yes, it's a great app. Only drawback is that it is (by design) a one trick pony. But if you want a good sax sound and don't have a sax... it's my number one choice.
Enjoying playing along with Careless Whisper sax solo I’m using Casio Casiotone 61 key keyboard and output to Vox practice amp through the headphone Jack output on iPAD to the Aux1 on the Vox Sounds great! Thank you How do I change the word on the saxophone dial?
The only problem I have with this is it gets buggy when I have 2 sax tracks. Like I’d get an optimization message and then it sounds off...like it’s stuck on staccato and whenever I switch it to sustain, it doesn’t stay and it reverts back. This happens when I switch the track to sax from a brass ensemble. Examples are careless whisper by George Michael midi and lambada by kaoma midi. Lambada has 2 sax tracks and it crashes as in it doesn’t close the app but it’ll sound weird.
Thanks for the feedback! Always good to hear other folks' opinions and experiences as well. I had fun playing Careless Whisper on the keyboard here, but can imagine it might not play super nicely with more traditional MIDI arrangements.
I'm wondering if your problem might be fixed by creating a new track with Sensual Sax running as an AUV3 then creating another track with Sensual Sax running as a separate AUV3.
i moses that’s what I did for lambada because it had a brass ensemble and it sounded off so I created 2 separate sax tracks and dragged the brass ensemble tracks onto each track and I got the optimization warning and then it sounded staccato.....

I'm thinking that's probably because Sensual Sax's MIDI controllers handle effects like staccato/legato in a very specific way that is different from whatever app you used for the brass ensemble sound. So then, the MIDI info isn't matching. You might be better off re-recording/re-playing the parts using Sensual Sax.
i moses ya because those midi files were created on different programs that existed before GarageBand and had very different instruments so I’m guessing that’s part of why it sounds different as well

Hi Pete - I was looking for some sax sounds and I’m always happy when google pops up one of your tutorials in response to my search. After downloading the app though I’m seeing the same results as other recent comments suggest. The trills that were added by the luv dial are not (no longer?) created in the midi track. I saw you edit them in the video - they are simply not being created in my config. So it sounds like sput sput sput and merging doesn’t change that unfortunately. I’ll be asking Apple for my money back - I’d rather have the sax sounds. Any suggestions for the next best alternative ? A set of half decent sounding instruments would be handy.
Very strange?! I will need to play with it again myself as haven’t come across this in the past. The developers are good people too so if I don’t find a fix I’ll reach out to them.

I gave you a sub because out of all the GarageBand suggestions you’ve been the most helpful. I was wondering if while recording in GarageBand with this plug-in have you run into any issues where it will state the plunging has stopped working and you have to either reload or disable? Hey there. Depends on the type of mic. I like a dynamic mic for louder brass and similar instruments. Condenser mics can be too sensitive and make instruments sound harsh.

When I tried to play with our band running the headphone out to our PA I had no sound Sometimes this happens at home and I find if I unhook everything, restart the iPAD and hook it all up again it works fine Is there a way to avoid that or what is the reason?

Dear teacher! Thanks you for your great help and tutorials. I have one problem thought: I recorded this great sound of sax, with bossa, but when I convert it to mp4 or any form to send it and share, it undoes all the efects of the sax!! Pete Johns I fixed it! By recording trough an external keybord and a preamp Belingher! (I couldn’t get the effects when exported if recorded from the keybord in the iPhone)
Hey! Quick question! I’m running into a problem when saving my song the plug in saxophone doesn’t save the long dragged out notes...when the song saved and played back, it’s just the short stabby notes. No sensual sax :( if anyone has an answer I’d appreciate the help! Thank you!

Very welcome. It’s a good workaround for any plugin which is causing this sort of issue as sometimes the export process can cause a lot of these sort of issues.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Was looking to troubleshoot this exact same issue over the weekend. Thanks for the tip, MERGING the tracks works perfect. One quick comment to add: Run the plug-in on the track(s) before merging and exporting. Seems to be a bit glitchy where it reverts back to no plug-in randomly (if that makes sense).

Hi Pete, Love your channel, I have a slight problem with recording Sensual Sax on Garageband as when I save it and go back into it the sax sound is all staccato and has none of the luscious reverb, any suggestions? I love the sax solo on The Eagles The Sad Cafe.

I’m having this problem, and when I try to export my track it comes out staccato. Looks like the only way around it is to record what you’ve made and export the track with the saxophone audio recording. 🤷🏻
Can this be controlled by External MIDI Controller? Does it respond to Breath messages? I ask because I’ve got an Akai EWI USB in bound and tho it comes with software , having MORE good brass instruments to play with it is a good thing. USB Class Compliant too so works with iPad :)
That’s a really good question? And one I really don’t know my friend. I have used it with my standard MIDI keyboard but ow eh and the standalone app might support more MIDI functions? Hello Pete. I have been working on a song that is using this app. When I am in session, the saxophone is great. However, if I was to export it into an audio, it plays staccato and it sounds horrible. Is this a bug? Is there a way round it? Thank you

Does anybody know why when I use the Sax App it sounds perfectly fine but once Im done recording and go and play my song the Sax sounds like an old keyboard toy Sax. I have to have the Sax opened if not it wont sound how it supposed too. Can someone please help me.

Maybe in the future record a jazz version of your 2022 #Songtember with Tyrell Brush Drummer, upright bass & Numa Players upright piano. Instead of you tracing your vocal, maybe do that on the Sensual Sax as a motif saxophone instrument.

I have 7 especially for a lady that i want to marry/impress. Even if we don’t get married i still want to impress her. I work Iber plus i’m a novice. I really don’t know the equipment well enough to move right through it. But i have the rythum, melody, and all of the percussion set up ( by individual samples). Mine is all original. not take anyone lyrics, or original productions!!! But thanks for the assistance that you could give.
The best wind instruments - indeed, the best instruments, period - are those made by Audio Modeling. The iOS version of the SWAM Tenor Saxophone is $29 on the App Store. For Windows, it's $250. These are NOT sample based, either. They're created with physical modeling and are the most realistic instruments ever.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I have the Swam Trumpet, Swam Tenor Sax and Swam Flugelhorn on my iPad I'm getting a few other instruments (including the Double Bass with Jazz Preset) soon. They are incredibly expressive, especially with any MIDI wind controller, or a MIDI keyboard.

Yes it does have some issues in previous versions of iOS but seems okay in iOS 15.1.1? Maybe try updating. Or check in with the developer.
Ran into that issue today. If you merge the track and exit it will save it with the sounds.

I haven’t personally played with it but there is MIDI Guitar 2 that works like this and might be worth checking out.

Hey man! I’m a big fan of the channel. Your videos are quite helpful, because I mainly use GarageBand on IOS to record my music. Quick question for you, do you know of any decent apps that have a good virtual guitar sound? I cannot find one! Maybe an app kinda like this one but for guitar?
Yeah, virtual guitar is one I haven’t found any great options for at this stage sadly. Always on the lookout!

Hey there Frank. I’m pretty sure I show this in the video? It’s an AUv3 instrument so you just need to select External and then Audio Unit.

When I tried to play with our band running the headphone out to our PA I had no sound
Sometimes this happens at home and I find if I unhook everything, restart the iPAD and hook it all up again it works fine
Is there a way to avoid that or what is the reason?

I have one problem thought: I recorded this great sound of sax, with bossa, but when I convert it to mp4 or any form to send it and share, it undoes all the efects of the sax!! Pete Johns I fixed it! By recording trough an external keybord and a preamp Belingher! (I couldn’t get the effects when exported if recorded from the keybord in the iPhone)
Hey! Quick question! I’m running into a problem when saving my song the plug in saxophone doesn’t save the long dragged out notes...when the song saved and played back, it’s just the short stabby notes. No sensual sax :( if anyone has an answer I’d appreciate the help! Thank you!

Very welcome. It’s a good workaround for any plugin which is causing this sort of issue as sometimes the export process can cause a lot of these sort of issues.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Was looking to troubleshoot this exact same issue over the weekend. Thanks for the tip, MERGING the tracks works perfect.
One quick comment to add: Run the plug-in on the track(s) before merging and exporting. Seems to be a bit glitchy where it reverts back to no plug-in randomly (if that makes sense).
Pete Johns unfortunately the merging didn’t work :/ it just made a duplicate of the same stabby notes in the song.

Have you updated to the latest iOS version 14.2? There are some AUv3 plugin issues since iOS 14.

When you have recorded a sax track to GarageBand why do you lose the sounds it had when you decide to share the complete track?

Hi Pete, Love your channel, I have a slight problem with recording Sensual Sax on Garageband as when I save it and go back into it the sax sound is all staccato and has none of the luscious reverb, any suggestions? I love the sax solo on The Eagles The Sad Cafe.

I’m having this problem, and when I try to export my track it comes out staccato. Looks like the only way around it is to record what you’ve made and export the track with the saxophone audio recording. 🤷🏻
When you export the track with the sax you loose the sax sounds?

How do we record using Garageband’s recording workstation? I’m fine working with the Sax app but garageband allows more notes. Any ideas?
Hey there. I haven’t used it for a while but you should be able to use it as a standard AUv3 plugin.
Can this be controlled by External MIDI Controller? Does it respond to Breath messages? I ask because I’ve got an Akai EWI USB in bound and tho it comes with software , having MORE good brass instruments to play with it is a good thing. USB Class Compliant too so works with iPad :)
That’s a really good question? And one I really don’t know my friend. I have used it with my standard MIDI keyboard but ow eh and the standalone app might support more MIDI functions? There’s a few folks who use the this a lot over on GarageBand Users so I would suggest asking there.

Hello Pete. I have been working on a song that is using this app. When I am in session, the saxophone is great. However, if I was to export it into an audio, it plays staccato and it sounds horrible. Is this a bug? Is there a way round it? Thank you

Does anybody know why when I use the Sax App it sounds perfectly fine but once Im done recording and go and play my song the Sax sounds like an old keyboard toy Sax. I have to have the Sax opened if not it wont sound how it supposed too. Can someone please help me.

If you turn the “luv” up you get a bit of a growl but not quite like the real thing.

Thanks So much Pete. I will try it. I sure wish you were for hire. I know you are not but i’d pay top dollar for timing fixes, mix, & master. But mostly timing. I have 7 especially for a lady that i want to marry/impress. Even if we don’t get married i still want to impress her. I work Iber plus i’m a novice. I really don’t know the equipment well enough to move right through it. But i have the rythum, melody, and all of the percussion set up ( by individual samples). Mine is all original. not take anyone lyrics, or original productions!!! But thanks for the assistance that you could give.

The best wind instruments - indeed, the best instruments, period - are those made by Audio Modeling. The iOS version of the SWAM Tenor Saxophone is $29 on the App Store. For Windows, it's $250. These are NOT sample based, either. They're created with physical modeling and are the most realistic instruments ever.
I really must explore SWAM. Never quite got around to it.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I have the Swam Trumpet, Swam Tenor Sax and Swam Flugelhorn on my iPad I'm getting a few other instruments (including the Double Bass with Jazz Preset) soon. They are incredibly expressive, especially with any MIDI wind controller, or a MIDI keyboard.
