    So smart waiting to upload these after the season is over. Don't have to worry about people recognizing you in game and robbing you to death. GLHF on the grind!

    Was red here. Wood brick ore is my fav setup and when the rare Opportunity appears, im gonna take it. I think its super strong. Leaving the rest fight over ows, feeding the weaker player. Black stealing my 1st sheep from orange just set me back to stoneage. Think that cost me the game. Got lucky about Blacks rb tho.

    When you got your VP and dropped a road. Can't you just drop RB and get LR. That's 5 connect on the 9 sheep. Am I wrong?

    Hi everyone! I was orange in this game. I know now that i messed up my placements. Any feedback on gameplay?
    Note: i often didn't mind being extorted for sheep, because i knew the trades were probably going to be advantageous for me anyway (ex. getting a wheat at the start).

    • @Paraninja
      @Paraninja 9 месяцев назад

      Did you though? You could have played 11 6 5 with the 3 8 4 for a total OWS strategy or you could do what you did with, as Dylan points, out a slight adjustment to start with on the 2 6 9 with a free road. Is that radically different? You outproduced your opponents and ended on 8 points in a very tight game. So I think it is probably a mistake in gameplay and not messing up placements that is the issue (but I'd need to study the video to work out what).

    • @gp3571
      @gp3571 9 месяцев назад

      I liked your first placement, I think your best second options are:
      1) 10, 9, 11 for an early road/sheep port/ potential to fight for longest road. & if your fast enough can maybe beat someone to wood port for double 2:1 ports.
      2) 6, 11, 5 for dev card set up and you have more obvious expansion spots than option 1. Also incentivizes red/black to cut off blue at 10/9 3:1 port.
      Giving up the wood port to red or black would also make them stronger though.
      Your second placement just doesn’t feel great imo because It’s already a high wood board, and the 3 wheat on the wood port isn’t great. Also not a huge fan of doubling up on hexes early game.

    My family came up with a houserule due to a situation;
    Trading in Catan ultimately ends up with a player with less strength being picked on/manipulated, which can turn into that player being "okay I'll trade" while three players argue over whether the trade should be taken (no it makes them too strong) (it gives them a city) (no it's fine it's fine give it to me). This turned into a "no trading" rule, where we play Catan with all base rules, except trading isn't allowed anymore.
    Does this change the meta? Does this change which resources/dev cards are stronger than others?

    • @clawiese
      @clawiese 8 месяцев назад +1

      It does. & playing like this kills the game.

    • @churbo9597
      @churbo9597 8 месяцев назад

      Definitely does. Interestingly enough this has happened to me the past few games and even got teamed up on. I’ve played with friends and have been looking for others with similar experiences.
      First game, was 1 VP from winning then all 3 players teamed up on me / traded everything away just to take away my points - took longest road from me because of it, was about to get largest army but they thought I was about to get it so made sure I couldn’t by helping each other and only blocked my numbers too. The other game it is two v 1, with the 4th place teaming up with second (I was 1 or 2 VP) away and lost in one move since the other player gave away everything.
      What I have to say after looking at the rules and other people’s experiences is that, it is definitely allowed (unless just giving away cards or more than 4:1 - that a bank could even give). But that’s what makes Catan, love it or hate it. It thrives on negative interactions and yes, the players you play with affect it big time and house rules will definitely help. But yes, as long as it is legal, a tough pill to swallow is it is part of the game so we have to change our strategy and adapt knowing that’s how they play.

    • @churbo9597
      @churbo9597 8 месяцев назад

      Did you end up coming up with any effective house rules? In my opinion, trading is part of what makes Catan fun for us so it’s impossible for us to remove without removing the fun of it.
      I thought about adding new power cards in addition to the base game’s longest road, army with a dishonourable action or something like that if u team up minus 2 points to the person who benefitted the most - still have a chance for either player to win despite the teamups while allowing Catan rules to take place as normal still. Or even no teamup trading or teamups in general if someone is on 9 points. Best to decide or talk though and call it out too. Any other ideas you think?

  • @ThePhilipp96

    I think 4th position always gets a killer spot after black taking that 8 5 10 wood, brick, wheat as a first placement. Just a great board for 4th. if the table doesn't lock 4th out of ore its just always a great setup.
    (writing this after you placed your first settlement)
    Edit:
    Damn, oj really fumbled this...

    • @Curundil
      @Curundil 9 месяцев назад

      Oj sevened out a TON in the first half this game. So yeah def misplay by not going 692 to have wood port from start of game (assuming no plow) but also a decent bit unlucky on the sevens. But that’s how it goes!
