Every Wine Glass Explained By A Sommelier | World of Wine | Bon Appétit - Хобби
This guy is cool. Very knowledgeable and not a snob.
Ya it’s what wine should be!! There’s no reason for it to be snobby it’s much more accessible than craft beer (flavour are more “familiar” IMO) but with even more variety
As he puts it he’s a wine nerd. Not a snob. I can relate.
Agreed
Omg. Yes. He is nice explaining. Like you said. Not a snob.
We're all kinds of glassware mamufacturer .Of premium quality and reasonable price.
I really like his approach to this subject.
"Here's what this glass is traditionally used for and why. "
" Here's my opinion on what might be better for the type of wine you're serving. "
" None of these are essential to enjoying a good glass of wine. "
Spot on!
Correct, the glass is mainly a marketing thing.
You forgot the most important one, the coffee mug.
And the coffee thermos
And baby sippy cup too?
They forgot the bottle too
@@brmor watch to the end 😆
Red solo cup.
I know I've complained that we need more Andre Mack on this channel, but now that we are getting more, it's not enough. GIVE US EVEN MORE!!!
I just discovered him and I AM OBSESSED OMG!! What have I been doing on RUclips
Wish he’d have his own channel
Man, I really enjoy Andre. He is so opposite of what I think when I imagine "wine people", a lot of whom can be really pretentious.
Andre is knowledgeable, but also fun and doesn't strictly adhere to everything, doesn't care about snobby traditions and things like that. The guy just really liked wine and decided to make a career out of that, and that is great.
So basically you’re stereotyping people.
@@Fullyautomagic can you read ?
I worked in a winery in an relatively unknown region for a while, and I could always tell that when a “pretentious wine person” came they wouldn’t like our wine simply because they already made up our their mind. But our wine was pretty objectively excellent (as much as wine can be objective), competing with many well known regions. Wine people like Andre get so much more out of wine because they’re willing to explore and leave behind the BS.
I click fast when Andre is on
I’m a wine person. Definitely not as knowledgeable as he but I do consider myself something of a connoisseur. I have friends who are wine people. We aren’t pretentious and I can’t tolerate pretentious people. You might be surprised. Those sort are a dying breed. They do exist though and they’re irritating as all get out.
I appreciate him not asserting there is a definite and measurable increase of enjoyment/flavor dependent on the glass, he just suggests why you may find improvements between glasses, IF you do. Well presented.
This guy makes wine feel more approachable.
IIRC a Chinese team did scientific research into different glass shapes. I think they included thermal imaging into that. One important aspect they report is that alcohol vapor sticks to the glass's wall, so the shape and diameter of a glass with the diameter of the opening influence what we smell (=80% of what we call "taste").
I LOVE how Andre drinks margaritas in his Burgundy glass. Need to try this next time
@@avgaming4093 Gotta always use fresh lime juice 😉
I would love to see you do that in your next video. Love your channel!
There's a larger balloon glass than Andre's classical Burgundy glass, generally used to serve (white, French, Burgundy) Chassagne-Montrachet or (red, Italian, Tuscany) Brunello di Montalcino. That glass does even better with your alcoholic beverage.
I have learned more about wine in a shorter amount of time than I ever have before, thanks to your videos. You are awesome. I am a chef that works in fine dining and I am utterly delighted by your polite, relaxed and fun demeanor. You explain things in such a simple and approachable way. Zero elitism, pretense and pompous jargon. Thank you!
Whats wrong with elitism?
What’s wrong with millionaires?
I loved that even as a professional Sommelier, he hit the bottle straight at the end. Such a fun guy.
A sommelier I actually enjoy listening to. Very good at explaining things in an understandable way and he also acknowledges that different people have different perceptions.
I was reared in a family of extraordinary cooks and took to the profession when a younger man, at a very high level. Wine knowledge is just part of the package. I also lived up in West Santa Barbara County, Santa Rita Appellation, for a decade. A mystical mix of snobs and alchemist.
All this "schooling" led to folks like what they like. Shut up and pour...
Putting 25" rims on your Moscato d'Asti haha love it!
I could listen to him talk about wine all night. It’s like listening to poetry 💕
can i just say how much i love this dude, and the way he can even put a positive spin on things that snobs would hate on! he needs to add "master orator" to "sommelier" on his resume... fantastic person
Can't get enough of André, generous with his knowledge and has an infectious passion for wine.
Missing some my personal favourites, the glass IKEA tumbler, the bottle and my bare hands as I weep before the box
Don't forget the best one, the plastic cup with a snarky phrase on it like "koala-fied to drink" or something like that.
@@Qwertylol I need to try drinking more out of my 90s Christmas coca cola cup with the lid and bendy straw
@@radicalpaddyo the bendy straw is the epitome of cool
I enjoy all of his videos! Keep them coming! This was informative and fun to watch and now I have reasons to buy more wine glasses.
Andre Mack is the reason I follow y'all. He is an expert who clearly loves his field, and is imminently relatable. I am not a wine person, but I'm starting to wish I was one.
KEEP THE ANDRE VIDEOS COMING!!! Just love him and I've been wanting a show that teaches me more about wine. This show is the best.
Love how authentic you are … your words like “break this glass with your mind” 😂. Exactly how I feel, but never articulated it so well!!!
Thank you BA for listening 🔥❤ keep Andre in the spotlight for as long as you can
I am loving this series and taking TONS of notes. Thank you so much!
Such a great addition to this channel. I love all his shows/episodes. He’s awesome
Make sure this guy is PAID HIS WORTH. Each video is crisp and enjoyable. I can't get enough of him.
I have worked in the industry for 20 years, and this guy is literally the coolest and less bougie sommelier I have ever seen.❤️ You’ve got my subscription!
I thought this was complete BS until I went to a tasting that specifically focused on letting you experience wine in different glasses. They even served Coke a cola in different glasses and you could clearly taste the differences.
Straight to the head!!! That is why I freaking love Andre Mack. He can be bougies AF and straight hood all in the same 30 seconds. Andre you make wine so fun. Serious and approachable. The way you share wine knowledge is epic, inviting and everlasting
Andre is my favorite part about BA's videos!! More of him please
During this past winter, I went to visit my mother for the holidays and she was gifted a set of stemless wine glasses. Needless to say, we were both pretty excited by the idea of drinking wine out of a glass with no stem and what he said was spot on. For some psychological reason, drinking wine out of those glasses do feel more casual and its a go-to for me now. If you drink wine on the reg, you should get yourself a set! Definitely enjoy watching these types of videos, learn something new!
I've always been stubborn in excluding the port and Chardonnay glasses aesthetically. I now feel justified in how he criticised them and I'm going to show this to my partner to settle years of sideeye lol.
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe Yes, I just wrote that I have been stubborn in refusing to use the glasses.
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe he only said port glasses were necessary in a restaurant/bar setting as it would look like a dismal pour. Sane with the chardonnay glass not necessary
@@ACommonSpring ISO glasses are what I use for port and they are inexpensive.
And coupes are so much more aesthetically pleasing than flutes!
I so enjoy and look forward to his videos! He is a great teacher
I love him! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us in a fun yet approachable way!!
I love these so much 😌 please keep ‘Em coming in this series
great video and explanation of the glasses, straight to the point and kept simple. i used to think any glass or mug will do, now i understand the reason for the shape.
Sometimes I see Bon Appetite post an Andre video but I don’t have time to watch it… so I immediately open it, like it, and then add it to my watch later list. Brilliant every single time, Andre deserves to win… such a good dude.
I really enjoy these classes. Plus Andre really makes it interesting but at the same time easy to grasp.
I am addicted to Moscato Di Asti. I love it. Thank you for showing it.
We got some Zalto glasses at a wine tasting at a local winery and they’ve become my default glass for any wine I am drinking. (They’re obviously not the real expensive ones, but they’re the same general shape.) On a side note, when my wife and I are at a restaurant and we order wine we always request stem ware with a stem. 😆 Neither of us like the stemless glasses.
I love his attitude about this! Definitely passionate and knowledgeable but also super accessible and inclusive !! No snobby sommelier stereotype 😂
Really well explained 👏👏👍❤️
I 1000% think the glass affects experience and you can never have too many! Had my eye on that Zalto for a while now- an elegant stem is so key on a glass for me! 😍
Every time we get to see Andre, he always bring so much knowledge to share. Man, he’s so awesome 👏. Thanks for making me smarter again 🙏
I am a scotch/bourbon whiskey drinker but andre knowledge is making me delve deeper into a appreciation of wine.
This is the first of your videos that I’ve watched, and like others have commented, I’d love to watch more! I like how you explained the different types of glasses in a simple and approachable way. I will continue to use my cheap grocery store Chardonnay glasses for casual use, but will better appreciate the experience when I use my better glasses for special occasions. Thanks!
Always learning something new in every Bon Appetit video with Andre! Will share with more friends and family (video and more wine)
I could listen to this bloke talk about wine forever and a day. Fascinating.
I love Andre's videos, they make me want to study more about wine culture :)
Really like the way he introduces the wine knowledge and enjoy watching this series of videos
I love watching you take sips! Thanks for sharing.
I am totally obsessed with you and the awesome knowledge you pass on.
My favorite wine expert. By far and away the most eloquent speaker.
I’m a wine aficionado ( beginner) and Love your style and the quality of the video.thanks 🙏🏻
You put a smile on my face and I thank you for that 😊
great video! thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for this! I had no idea what glasses to get for different wines.
Thank you for sharing this ancient, elegant, beautiful information with us.
I love this man. Extremely down to earth, funny & knowledgeable. 🥂👍🏽
I LOVE your videos! You make everything so approachable and fun, and the thing about stemless glasses ‘bringing more people to the party’ which is what white zin did in its day. Thank you! Awesome, keep it coming! 💕💕
Love his explanations
André back with another banger...Who would've thought that wine glasses could be so fun?!

Thanks for the video! I love Andre's stuff!
This guy is great, all the videos he is in are so informative and easy to watch
…”touching it, you feel like you can break it with your mind” 😅😅
Rich sense of humor. 👍🏻
I love how you explained this subject. Thank you.
Really enjoyed this! Very informative and helpful!
Stepped my wine game up listening to this man. Haven't looked back since
I couldn’t be happier with this series!
Thank you. Univeral Glass has changed my life. Ordering more.
I am a Stemware snob, but it does make such a difference in not just wine, but Beer and Spirits as well. I love watching Andre. You need to do a Wine Show and travel the world :)
He conveys his ideas very well. So he knows what he's talking about
I like his concise and clear explanations for the purpose of each glass. I've experimented with glassware a bit when pouring whiskey. I've found that having a mature sherried whiskey (like a Glenfarclas 25 or Bunnahabhain 18) really pops off aromatically in a burgundy glass. Moreso than a glencairn or a copa copita glass.
I definitely agree with the stainless glass. I also use it for sour beers sometimes. it's a great glass to enjoy on the patio with kids running around bumping into the table. You're already outside so temperature control is officially out the window anyways.
Excellent. Thanks for the video.
I love the ending. Such a great video!
I needed this🙋🏾♀️
Luv luv! More André and more wine!
Wow this video is amazing. So interesting and he is so knowledgeable. That dude is awesome
Loved this presentation
I love stemless glass for the same reason you mentioned. Riedel's "O" Glass is just perfect.
Reaaaaaaaaally good info! Loved his approach
The glassware plays a huge roll in almost any alcoholic beverage. I find it's a rather overlooked topic great video.

@@skrimper yes
so true, the same drink in its appropriate glass vs lets say a coffee mug is so different. The ability to see into your drink, to grt the proper aroma, and the act of ritual about it all contribute to the experience.
Love watching this guy, I’ve learned a lot about wine!
This was so helpful, thanks
These videos are so helpful!😎
I learned so much! Thanks Andre. I will order the Bordeaux glass first!!
Very very informative. Thank you.
Thank you André. This was very cool.
Every since I watched the movie Uncorked, I've just keep gravitating to you channel to learn more.
Very nice! I’m a fan of my casual Riedel stemless tumbler for casual tasting 👍🏻
This is strictly for the algorithm to support Andre... yall already know.
Andre is the best person/host on BA’s youtube channel now. He might be the best they’ve ever had.
Best sommelier ever!! Thanks for not being pretentious and for being fun :)
Yes! Give us all the Andre content!!
I hate wine snobs but love it when I can listen to an expert talk about their passion and experience for hours. And I can learn something out of it!
This type of video is very random for me but I’m glad it was recommended to me! I’ve learned so much
