I grew up in CT watching the whale and it was Rick Peckham and Gerry Cheevers for me. However, I really appreciate the other play by play/color pairings around the league in the eighties, especially these two. So many greats from that time.
Wow. Grew up listening to the late great Dan Kelly on Blues broadcasts. Also listened to Lloyd Petit do Hawks games (I lived in the north burbs of STL and could pull in WBBM at night). This is the first time I’ve heard Bruce Martyn for any length, and he’s really really good, too. Now I know why Red Wings fans liked him and Sid Abel on color - they’re a good broadcast team. And Bruce is still kickin’ at age 94. Hope he’s in good health.
Blackhawks traded Keith Brown for Darrin Kimble. I wish Brown retired a Blackhawk. That was stupid. Boy he could really scoot. The goal by Lysiak at 6:00 illustrates how dangerous he was, underated player. I don't remember Bolderev (Hawks, Canucks, Flames) on the Wings? That's what makes these clips so fun!
Yzerman’s rookie season and Esposito’s last. A pair of former Calgary junior players with Detroit in Gare and Kisio. Darryl Sutter...that name sounds familiar. I wonder what he’s doing now? 😀 The 1983-84 season was the last for the old style nets.
This was three weeks before the infamous Lysiak/Ron Foyt tripping incident that resulted in a 20-game suspension for Tommy and helped to sabotage the Hawks' season. I never could understand why he did it. RIP, Tommy.
