Scott is the man! He gave me some great pointers in my trans rebuild. He's for sure a guru in the gear reduction world! And also someone I consider a friend.
2023 can am defender lonestar come with 30 inch tire stock size planning to put 35 inch do you think 20 % gear reduction is good i only do trail riding no mudding or rock climbing…
I'm not out West. Do you have any recommendations on where I can take my machine to have gear reduction done to Turbo S. Plan on running 35s, and carry gear tools. The 60% in low I think is what I want too.
From Scott: The driveline connects to the transmission so the front diff will always spin the same speed as the trans no matter how you gear it. Think of basically that the transmission acts as the rear differential, and transfer case all in one. 👍-Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad Garrett, I may be wrong but I think what Wayne Owen is saying is that it seems with the current set up the following will occur: Although the trans output will spin the front drive shaft the same as the rear, once power goes through the pinion and ring ratio, the output at the axles/tires will be different. I hope I made sense what I said…
Great info! So my 21 RZR XP 1000 Trails and Rocks edition came with a 50% gear reduction in low range and 30” tires. Does this factory gear reduction mean it’s safer for me to bump to a 32” tire without adding undue stress on the drive train?
I desperately need an answer that even polaris themselves can’t answer! I have a 2018 570 utility that comes with a factory gear reduction, i know i go about 10 mp/h less than a normal model but i dont seem to have more acceleration? What tire size could i put on to be about like the normal ones i have 25 tires how higher could i go without going to far
We did it mostly due to the use this machine is going to get. It will spend a lot of time in the rocks and we’ll probably eventually go bigger than 32” tires . Plus we wanted to be sure that the trans was properly aligned with the engine so we can have the best possible belt life. -Dave
I’d be curious to know exactly what gear sets he is using. I’ve been researching this for a while for my Pro and trying to decide if i want to gear down or not for 32s. It seems pretty happy on hard pack but feels like a total slug in the sand even after dropping tire pressure to as low as 7psi.
The great thing about a gear reduction is it is more customizable. You can gear low and high individually where with portals you are essentially doing a 15% across the board. Not to mention portals are big money compared to what we did. -Dave
This is a video that should be mandatory for all UTV owners.👍

what state do u live in. i need a Scott to look at my turbo s. great vid thanks alot
Utah
Most informative video I’ve watched!
Great video! Lots of good info.
Thanks 👍

Yes, it would be great for that setup while not losing too much on the top end.
I ordered Stage 2 and 3 gear reduction. Should I not install the clutch kit?
We never did.

Hopefully any UTV shop should be able to do it.
What size and brand tires on on the rzr in the background?
The new chicanes. I believe they’re 35’s. -Joe
@@DerangedOffRoad thanks they look really good on that machine
SO what about the front end gear ratio when you get into 4 wheel drive and the front and rear locked together!
From Scott: The driveline connects to the transmission so the front diff will always spin the same speed as the trans no matter how you gear it. Think of basically that the transmission acts as the rear differential, and transfer case all in one. 👍-Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad So it isn't like a 4-wheel drive truck! Thanks Garrett

You should have no issues running 32’s. -Garrett

With a 570, probably 28s would be the max size in my opinion.
Garrett, does anyone make a gear reduction for the KRX?
Not that I know of, but at the same time the KRX is geared pretty low so that’s probably why most just mess with the clutches on them. -Garrett
@@DerangedOffRoad I agree on the low gearing. Was just wondering because I’ve seen a few of them in south (mud parks) have portals installed.
Yeah that’s what they use to gear them lower. -Garrett
What kinda top end are people doing with gear reduction
Really it stays about the same you will just get there sooner and a little higher rpm.
Are you doing the gear reduction due to the 32s?

Great video! What is roughly the cost of the kit and labor to put in?
Depending on what you go with, around $900 to $1300.

The gear set is from RCR, but you can reach out to Scott. His info is in the description below. 👍 -Garrett
what if you put on 4in portal with a 15% gear reduction ? do you also do the rear end
You can depending on how much you want to go down. -Garrett

Want to lift a 2022 4 seat general 4 in and some 32 tires ,so was thinking of portals.is a lift and a gear reduction better idea
Do you have a link to buy the 16% gear reduction for the pro xp?
No we don't. Scott who did it ordered all the parts. His contact info is in the video description.
-Dave
which gear reduction kit did you guys get installed?
Scott did all the ordering and install. You can reach out to him. His info is in the description but it was the gears from RCR not factory. -Garrett
Please help me get ahold of Scott. Thx. I don’t know how to do Facebook. Dee
You can call Moto Armor in Utah and ask for him. 👍
The Kawasaki’s already have lower gearing, and wet clutch for smooth takeoffs
What wheels are on there and size
Methods 15x7 with 32’s 👍
@@DerangedOffRoad what’s the offset
4x3
How much does that cost
The upgraded gears we went with was about $1200. That could have all changed since this was a bit back.
Thanks..what gears did you go with
Not sure on brand because Scott put them in for us. It’s was a 46% low and 16% high reduction I believe.
Thank you sir
Nice video…but I think a lot of this was Dave’s point in your last video!
This guy is not cheap just look at where this guy lives
Damn
Actually he was the cheapest quote for me on a gear reduction. Scott's the man.
