I think the root of the problem: James is the alpha of the band....and Lars wants to be. Think about it this way...without James...Metallica would not be the same...without Lars...it really wouldn't make much difference. There are plenty of other drummers...but only one lead singer in that band...and you know that has to have eaten at Lars. I'm surprised they've stayed together as long as they have.

I think James Mason's is the only one to incorporate the bass while retaining the album's original sonic integrity with 5 versions depending on how much bass you actually want mixed in

I know this joke has a long history, but I can hear the bass in Justice, just listened to Dyer's Eve on the way home today. And it sounds a lot like the bass in this video. You can't hear individual picks of the bass strings, but you can hear the bass backing the guitars just like you can in this video. I'd say it's pretty accurate. If the bass wasn't there in Justice, you'd for sure notice.

Justice and Lightning are by far my favourites. From the song structure to the atmosphere to the wall of sound. They just are so unique and epic. Master has a great sound too and song writing but it doesn't have that unique atmosphere

In this moment I knew the new album was garbage. And - besides the bass drum sound - it acutally was. So thrash was dead and death metal ruled. Back in 1990.
