I sold my Sigma 20mm and bought this Viltrox...huh i'm more than happy, wonderful image quality, very fast auto focus no focus breathing, and almost no distortion, its just perfect for video, thank for review
What’s your opinion now? Torn between this and the Sony 20 1.8
Update, the Adobe update in August 2023 includes support and correction for this Viltrox 16mm f1.8 lens. I just ordered one for my A1, A7RIV, A7SIII. Cheers and thanks

I am thankful I held back for the Sony Wide angle prime.
Picked up the Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f2.8 but not great.
Liked the Sigma 14-28 but it’s just too heavy.

How long is the focus throw? 90 degrees? 180? less? :)
VERY impressive.
What is the red LED for on the lens? Is it for automatically finding infinity? If so that would be helpful for astro.
That is not an LED, it is just a red dot that you need to align with white dot on the camera mount to attach the lens.

how is the stabilization with cameras like the A7CII (active stabilization) and ZV-E1 (dynamic stabilization) vs. Sony lenses like the 16-35mm f2.8 GMII? And how does the autofocus compare for video in low light?
I don't know, I have never used either of those cameras of 16-35 GM II.

Great lens, extra sharp wide and greatly built, if sony made them price would be at least double then now...
Do you recommend this lens for astrophotography?
Theoretically, it should be ideal, but I know very little about astrophotography, so I cant make any recommendations on that subject.
As I saw, stars are very good. Just a bit miss manual infinity focus point but its not a problem at all. You have to focus magnification anyway
If i hadn't bought the Sony 14mm GM, i buy this lens.
Should you recommend this lens for video? Or Sigma 16-28 dg dn is better?
Those are different types of lenses, one is not better of worse than the other.
I have to really tame my GAS really hard no to buy this lens :D

This year i am finally going to my dream destination.. Hong Kong! And i bought a sony a7c last year.. with a 24-70 sony oss zeiss lens.. but want something alot wider! So i can make a cool hong kong at night cinematic like video😝 and i was about to pull the trigger on a tamron 17-28.. but now there is this lens! Which one would you pick out of those 2? Anyway another great review! Keep up the great work! Greetings from the Netherlands
I have 17-28 and I would be happy to change it for that viltrox + 24 1.4 😊

Thank you! That is impossible to answer, as they are two different types of lenses. 17-28 will be more versatile due to the focal rage, 16mm is better optically and has wider aperture.
Since you already have the 24-70, I'd say the Viltrox 16mm would be a better choice than the Tamron 17-28. It's not as versatile, sure, but 16mm is a bit wider than 17mm and you gain more than a stop from 2.8 to 1.8
@@sergio_azenha He loses 17-24mm focal range though, so that depends purely on his preferences.

The new Sigma 14mm f1.4 will be of more competitive concern for Sony. I doubt they will throw resources at chasing Viltrox at 16mm for a prime. Expect an updated Sony 16-35mm f2.8 GM announcement on 29th August.
Why? You have this which beats most GM lenses in terms of optical performance, and you have the Sigma 14mm f 1.4 for improved usability and AF.
Or are these options just too cheap for you?

More options the better for consumers. Maybe sigma can make a 16mm 2.8 like canon’s RF
@Nathan Yan This one would be difficult to beat, especially at that price point, so I would prefer if Sigma did something else instead. That actually is the case, they will announce 14mm F1.4 soon.
Maybe the only critique would be that it looks extremely digital?
What exactly looks "digital"?
You forgot to test for lens flares and chromatic aberration. 😁
CA is include in the testing scene. I only comment on flares if the lens is particularly prone to flaring.
my Viltrox 23mm 1.4 i can hear the motor noise non stop when i playback the video on my PC. the solution is to use the phone as a recorder and sync the audio with the camera. beside that a bit of dark corners but stunning image quality overall and super sharp. My sony 15mm f1.4G is absolute silence below zero noise.
That is a completely different lens, so I'm not sure how is that relevant to this video.
@@TheHybridShooter I was not sure if this lens in complete silence during playback not when your hear while shooting according to your video.
@Max Sambo I have specifically said that the AF motor noise will not be picked up the microphone.
Internal audio is also playing in the background, but you can’t hear anything because it is completely silent.
