    Thanks Hal for the video. My old eyes are having problems with the peep sights. Do you think Rick can comment on what red dots he has been using on his remington?

    My pump tube on my 35 whelen carbine didn’t have loctite on the threads from the factory. It loosened up on me 3 times during ladder testing. It’s got loctite now on it.

    Great Video Hal, thanks for putting it together. I spent a few years in the dive industry when I was a young fella, they drilled it into us not to use vaseline on o-rings as the petroleum jelly degrades the rubber o-rings, but instead to use silicone grease. This was particularly important as we relied on o-rings to deliver our air supply at depth, keeping us alive. I was wondering why you don't use silicon grease on the forend slide o-ring? It might reduce o-ring breakages and make the slide a bit more reliable long term.

    Thanks for the video, very helpful. My only suggestion is to use a silicone based lubricant for the o-ring and it will last longer. Because vasoline is petroleum based it will degrade rubber.

    Danco #40 for the o ring.

    I clean mine as a whole gun. I don't tear it down.
    I cleaned inside the barrel with solvent and sprayed the rest of it downward rim oil. Wipe it down. That's it and scrub it with a toothbrush

    Great video. My Dad aways said, If you own it, you better learn how it works and better yet, know how to fix it.. I was also taught to never let gun oil touch your wood stocks,, it will soften the walnut and it could crack the stock.. Just a word to the wise. Thank you for sharing your knowledge,. See you on the track,, but not if I see you first... ~Best

    Great video Hal. But why the Vaseline? No loctite either on the two base screws?

    • @TheREALLibertyOrDeath
      @TheREALLibertyOrDeath 3 месяца назад

      Keep moisture from rusting between the sight and the receiver. Correct torque is much more important than loctite . I don’t think Andy the owner of skinner recommends it either

    I have a 742 that is in great shape, but the ejection port dust cover is cracked. I read in a couple forums that you really don’t need to replace them, as they can be difficult to install. And a gunsmith might charge $60. Do you think I need to replace it?
