I have alway thought these songs were beyond my abilities and I have been playing guitar for years. You have unlocked so much for me with this. My fingers are sore I have enjoyed playing this so much! Thank you!!!
Hi Liam, I am happy that you found the lesson useful and helped you work through the song. Do checkout my other Quo lessons. My apologies to your fingers in advance!
thank you for your very good lesson ! I was fan longtime ago when i heard in 1974 at the radio this song ;--)) I saw Status quo at Palais des Sports in 1975 ( i was little kid) . Great moment. But i was too lazy for learn seriousely... Now after many years, i know play this riffs! Thanks to you !!
Thanks Jeff that's really made my day I was thinking of getting a electric guitar and now you might if made my dreams come true - if I get good I thinking of joining a Rock Band that plays Status Quo Songs thanks ever so much I wish you lived local I'd come to you to teach me in person but I very much doubt your local where I live
Hi Power Ranger, Glad you enjoyed the lessons and they encouraged you to pick up the guitar. I probably am not local to you but I do offer guitar lessons via Skype if this might be of interest to you. please let me know my email is gsinker@gmail.com
this really is great ive been trying to do the finger stretch for weeks . could you show the finger position in diagram form to make it even eaasier ? i think ive going to watch this 100 times before ive sorted the finger possitions out. brilliant though please do all the QUO songs brilliant.
I always wondered how Parfitt and Rossi managed those long stretches on the first fret - I never knew they used a capo (even seen them live and it didn't click)
Fantastic lesson...but can you do a lesson from The Song again and again? Theres no Lesson from this Song in net aviable.....thanks for..... Regards Joe
Years when I played rhythm, on Quo stuff I had very painful wrists by the end of it and wondered how Rick did it so easy I thought he must have had his guitar tuned to a cord.
Hi Vic, tell me about it! Mind you it did help me learning to stretch across large intervals on the fret-board. I didn't realize he used a capo for years. No youtube in those days.
Nice one matey and also showing us how to play this great song ...wish you had shown us how to play the intro to Mystery Song as well Geoff ..and subscribed
Hi there that was great,I'm just starting at 52 I have a telecaster stile guitar and a vox vx1. Can I ask what would be the best amp set up to get Rick Parfitt's sound. Thanks Make. More quo please
Mark s , if you really want to go for Rick‘s sound, you need to combine a Marshall JCM 800 and a Vox AC 30. As this might bust some peoples budget, I recommend the Blackstar Core ID series. They are not that expensive but give you a good simulation of both amps.
Hey Mark.im 52 also and just started out a few months ago. I'm a leftie so watching videos in right hand is a bit strange lol. Anyway with regards to sound reproduction my partner bought me a zoom x1on effects pedal. Its a cracking little thing and with 100 effects and loads of amp models you can pretty much make it sound authentic. Well worth the £60 or dollar equivalent. Hope this helps.have fun .
Thank you Jeff, the intro riff sounds very familiaire and Down down was the song that i wanten to play electric guitar , i had a that time a acoustic guitar only. And nowi know the tuning of Francis Rossi !,... Does Rick Parfitt has the same guutar tuning as Rossi?, Jeff?
Use the same strings would be fine. Better if you have 10 gauge for tuning down but I have used 9 gauge and its ok. I tune up and down regular with the same set of strings when I am teaching.
It was the Lancasters Bass-overlaps and Coghlans drumming who made this song no 1 in UK, (the intro is completely irrelevant and 100+% sure Rossi/Parfitt made that up afterwards.-)
To be honest I didn't do the outro solo as Rossie always seems to improv when he plays that. He always play the main solo ruffly the same so this is one one i covered.

Been a Quo fan for 50 years. Great to have this tutorial. I don’t have an electric but I’m playing it on my acoustic, still sounds good! Great work.
Hi Philip, doesn't matter if its a electric of acoustic, if it sounds good who cares. Hope you get the whole song nailed.

One of my favorite Status Quo songs.
Hope i did it justice.
excellent presentation you get it across so well and make it so simple you have inspired me to have a go well done sir
Hi David, great to hear from you. You must let me know how you get on with the song.
love Quo Geoff their stuff is harder to learn properly than folk think.
Francis Rossi said recently "some folks think what we do is easy, well, come on down & let me see YOU do it"!
I saw quo live in a small venue in 2002 , wasn’t advertised and it was the best gig I’ve ever been too , I was most impressed with parfait rythym
Great lesson... Well taught... Saved me hours of work... Cheers Geoff
Glad it helped

Good question , I didn’t see parfitt use a capo , I was 1 metre away from him
No, Rick played in standard tuning without capo on Down Down.ruclips.net/video/RE7HxwVnbq8/видео.html
Hey Geoff! a lesson in : siouxsie and the banshees- candyman...so, if its your taste aswell...i would very appreciate it :-)
good video, mate, but is the low string not tuned to D - rather than G?
That's how I've played it for years with the low D.
Do I need new strings to tune to this or can I use the same that are already on it
Use the same strings would be fine. Better if you have 10 gauge for tuning down but I have used 9 gauge and its ok. I tune up and down regular with the same set of strings when I am teaching.
Shouldn't the bottom E be a D as well?
I thought that, too. However, that said, this lesson is about the best ever!!!!
@@christurton9484 Totally agree!
just to annoy some fans, Francis didn't record this on a tele, he recorded it on a strat, but he didn't use any chorus as far as i know
It was the Lancasters Bass-overlaps and Coghlans drumming who made this song no 1 in UK, (the intro is completely irrelevant and 100+% sure Rossi/Parfitt made that up afterwards.-)

E string (bottom) goes to D, not G for open G tuning.
you are right but Quo tunes with two G's on the bottomE and A
You need teles!!!
I know I keep telling the Wife that!!!!
Why do you find it hard to strecth!!! it is easy
Just a quick question, are you saying this is easy standing up or sitting down? Glad you enjoyed the lesson.
Please leave the incorrect pronunciation of capo to the Americans'
👍 great. More quo
Yeah, more Quo!!
