I remember back in the eighties Quo becoming a bit of a joke. A new single seemingly every week and it sounded just like the previous one. This is a good reminder of how good the band were and still are. I've just got back into playing after 30+ years and I love playing this. It sends the shiver down my spine that you get when you hear again a really good song. Of course back then we never had the online tutorials we have now so the Francis Rossi and Keef Richards sounds were a total mystery to most of us. Now it's all there for us! Thanks for that. 😊
I was 13 years old when I first heard this and had been playing guitar for a year. I didn't understand why my guitar playing didn't sound like Francis Rossi.. 40 years later I found out because of RUclips and guitarists like you. Thank you very much.
Wow!!!That was awesome,,the intro was spot on,,best on youtube,,,going to high school in the seventies ,everyone in denim and before they became the Top of the Pops party band Status Quo were the shit ,,,!!!They were massive !!
Fantastic the only thing is when I watch Parfitt the last bit where you go from 7th B up to 12th E Parfitt just goes down a string to E I have tried both ways and either way works great and is easy thanks for a great lesson.
That was great. I'm just starting at 52 I have a telecaster stile guitar and a vox vx1 amp ,I'm trying to get that Rick Parfitt's sound . Could you point me in the right way please. Amp setting would be great. Thanks Mark
Wrong amp - they played thru Marshall's. I have the DSL 40 and it's amazing. A 50 watt valve amp for £500 that plays really loud or really quiet. PS - if you get this amp get the 6 way footswitch, then you can go from clean, to crunch, to OD1 and OD2 with a button click. Good luck
Awwh..Loved this!! Grabbing my guitar now!! Much Respect from New Orleans Louisiana..Music& Peace☆♡☆Opal♡☆♡Psst..Loved the Mudhoney..If I think..frkn..hmm?! ..Sweet Young Thing..Have a creative & beautiful day!!😚
Bjoern Angermann Sure thing!! Enjoyed& love to create..Feels so good, since lil girl on my skateboard& guitar on back..Autumn days& Summer ..Music is the best outlet..Just right!! Very talented you are!! Sweet Day to you!! Much Respect...Music& Peace ☆♡☆Opal~
Hey man thanks for this. I found a thing by accident. I have a bad stone phaser. If you set it on manual, and play around with the sweep you can get a similar sound to the recording
Great! One question on the open G part: When you're doing the little walkdown during the verse (0:48), you're playing both of the lowest two strings (normally the big E and the A), right?
I lied. One more question. When I play in open G, I usually tune the lowest string down to D. I see your lowest is G (the answer to question 1 makes a little more sense now). Anyway, I assume you're tuning up to G (up 3 frets), not down to G (down 9 frets)- your low string doesn't look big enough for that!
Loving these vids, as just got new guitar combos for my son and myself..... Like Lt Columbo...."something is bothering me here"! Question to ask is who is actually playing both lead and rhythm here? I'm sure I can't be the only one, to have observed it's the same person! Both wearing the same top, which of course is possible, but the marks on his index finger are conclusive! I rest my case m'lud!
Very catchy straight playing, Bjoern :-). Q: you tuned the Jazz Master in a open G, but with the 6th string as a G instead of a D when originally tuned in open G. Is that a type mismatch, or do you really tuned the 6th as a G? When I tuned the 6th in a G it doesn't sound nice anymore, 'cause to little tension on the string.
That's the best I've heard anyone play the intro! Surprisingly difficult.
But so fun to play

Ironic. They ARE a joke now. Sadly. 😢

All the inspiration I need to learn this with my mates. If I do the Open G guitar, nobody has any excuses for not being able to play it!
Such a tune one of the best status quo songs off all time
You mean the very best
Yeah, that's it. Complete with that killer clean tone. Very nice.
Wow!!!That was awesome,,the intro was spot on,,best on youtube,,,going to high school in the seventies ,everyone in denim and before they became the Top of the Pops party band Status Quo were the shit ,,,!!!They were massive !!
Precise, energetic, exciting and with perfect tone! I'm in awe!!!

Rick started quo with a vox ac15 and always had a vox hidden in a marshall cab running along his marshall gear.

It's not a mismatch...there are different open-G-tunings...take it as a customized open-G-tuning!
Thank you, Bjoern. Got it and already playing it, but far from your great playing skills :-)
Plastic wrap is still on your pickguard hahaha. Well played my friend.
TheLakitu Thanks! ;)
Fabulous 🤘🤘 Is the Francis Rossi part tuned to open G ??
Great lesson though, absolutely spot on. Nice one 🤙
Wonders if they have wifi in heaven and parfitt is watching
It flashed it flashed
P 90 power ?
Mario Cellura 2 Special Design Hot Jazzmaster Single-Coils (Standard PU's on the Jazzmaster Classic Player)
Open-G Tuning: D-G-D-G-B-D
Would be handy to tell people that the capo guitar is tuned to open G.
It does say it on the bottom right
D G D G B D is the right tuning! otherwise it sounds ok 👍🏼
GGDGBD...same open tuning in songs like Mystery Song, Rain, Hold You Back, ect...😉😉😉
