That's what I ordered and getting it Monday. It's more reliable than the more expensive SSD expansion drives. WD and Seagate have some of the highest failure rates. Plus WD will not respond to replacement if they fail in months. People should look at reviews on Amazon and tech sites. A lot of people will be upset when you hear about WD failing in a couple of months and Seagate firecuda. No way I am going through that again spent a lot of money on Western Digital and it failed in barely a year. WD wanted to charged me a a ton of money to recover data.

The built in heatsink runs a touch hotter than if buying your own. But i have had absolutely no issues..we have also had a friend with a bad drive and the replacement took place within a week when talking to WD. Yes there are cheaper SSD's, but assuming everyone will have problems with no customer help (when talking WD) seems like a salty comment.

Boy oh boy, installing a heatsink is quite meticulous, but it is so worth. Got a 4TB SN850X and downloaded all of my PS5 games just for the cause and it’s already eaten more than half of it 😅😅. @@dangerzara Why would I want to do that? What if I just wanted a quick play on a game I haven't touched in a few years? Some of these installs are huge, like 30+ GB. I shouldn't have to install and reinstall each time. It's far more sensible to have an SSD/HDD with the right capacity

Back when I got the PS5 I said Im going to be upgrading the storage right away. But now I'm not so sure I regularly play with around 100gb free. And it still doesn't feel like I massively need the extra storage like it did at the start.
On my ps5, i am currently using a 1tb external ssd on which i installed all my ps4 games . I currently have more than enough space for ps5 games on the internal ssd.
I thought I would upgrade too, but I already have a 2TB USB SSD drive that I carried over from the PS4 and once Sony let PS5 games be stored on external storage I don't feel cramped for space. I did get a 2TB 980 pro for my wife's PS5 though, because it is worth every penny to never hear any complaining about shuffling games around.

You can fix that by selecting both games in the storage section and clicking delete on both of them lol No games are worth the space Warzone takes up imo, but to each their own. Games are for enjoyment.
I'm so glad I don't play those games. I got eight games downloaded on my console with no extra storage. As a matter of fact I've never needed any extra storage on any console. I guess I don't play games that long. I usually will beat them and then when I need room delete them. But for those of you that do have those giant games it's nice now you have options
@@robk5437 It’s mainly for people who play a big variety of games that are mostly multiplayer since they have much more replay value and people tend to play them for much longer than story games so they keep them downloaded

@@eddi3401 I have loads installed but they're almost all PS4 so they're on the same external drive I had plugged into my Pro. It doesn't take much longer than grabbing a drink or scrolling social media to move a PS5 game onto the internal storage before playing either so it doesn't really seem like something I'll need any time soon. You can after all only play one game at once.

Great video. I'm holding out for a while. M.2 Gen 4 drives need to drop in price a bit, and fortunately they will over time. When they are more affordable, quick and easy upgrade. For now, my 8TB external will house everything, and I'll wait the 5 min to transfer PS5 games to the onboard SSD.

@@eddi3401 the same was said about Vita memory cards lol. Proprietary will always be more expensive. You can use any external drive with an Xbox, same as PS5, but need to copy current gen games to the internal storage to use them. There's no real need to buy their little plug in drive or an NVME drive, but some people are happy to pay a lot for that bit of extra convenience.

I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere down below already but I just want to share my experience that didn't come up at all in Ryan's video. BOTH the top screw and bottom screw with the spacers were WAAAAAY to tight. Be aware of this when you go about the process because you can EASILY strip these cheap screws while fighting them. I'm not exagerating either. I'm a strong 30 yr old man that could not for the life of me get these screws out conventionally. I had to use a size 8 needle nose plier with a vice grip just to get them loose. I don't know if its a system to system case or what with these screws but mine were beyond unreasonably tight. Just dont strip your screw heads guys.

The instructions for the heat sink I ordered didn't exist but this helped. Finally got a PS5 last week and now it's got a ton of storage 👍

There isn't really much difference between them on PS5. They're all within the margin of error overall
Firecuda is the top dog but I think wd black is a little cheaper and more available so people just go with that

That's the thinking behind using non-proprietary SSDs. They'll drop in price over time compared to Xbox's solution.

I'm NOT tech savy at all and did it with this video in minutes !! the WD-Black WITH heatsink was $250 so i decided to buy it without Heatsink for $160 and bought a Heatsink for $10 on Amazon. its easy AF & well worth it. i have 16 games ready to play with 700GB's STILL free between Console & SSD
Added a firecuda 1 tb today awesome drive. I just wish the firecuda heatsink were easier to get right now but I got one like in ur video instead

Awesome Video! I did not know you are supposed to put that washer thing below it. I could see a lot of people messing that up if they go in blind. I know I would have.
