    I'm not saying I would leave a job solely because of lack of appreciation from my manager. However, it would be a contributing factor.

    I'm not sure why one would accept lower remuneration when working remotely? Surely, work responsibilities and duties remain irrespective of one's physical location.

      Time and resources wasted on commuting. Me personally, f the job site is an hour away, I may consider a pay cut for remote work

      Its pay cut within reason. Not massive pay cut. And remote is useless if you are constantly on meetings or zoom calls asking you to join effectively pulling you out of the zone.

      I would spend more than 10% of my salary if i have to go to the office everyday. Not just petrol and parking but eating outside and time as well. There are many factors that, in my case, would be worth the pay cut. We still go to the office just once a week for team meetings where we do catch ups about the different projects this can also be easily done by group video call.

    The point isn’t how much I make or save by working remote. The point is if I take a 10% pay cut the company is making 10% more profit, plus the increase from not having an office. No way, I wouldn’t take a 10% pay cut just so they can make more profit.

    I work in the engineering field. My company allows us to work from home, but I don’t really like to do so. I find it harder to collaborate if I can’t just go grab someone and talk to them, especially if I need help with something. There’s also just my personal issue of being too easily distracted at home

    You still end up with a savings on vehicle wear and tear (obviously fuel, but also tires, oil changes, drivetrain fluid changes, paint chips and dings obtained during commuting/parking lot). A one time 10% pay cut (assuming you get pay raises each year) far exceeds those costs and cost avoidances on the your car pays for that cut quickly!

      On average pay increase is 3%. Inflation is 10-15. You would be lucky to make it past the paycut in 3-4 years assuming you last that long. People seem to forget layoffs are around the corner.

    Paycut for working remote is a slippery slope..... You should get paid the rate for the job....

  • @Sed_Contra
    @Sed_Contra 2 дня назад +5

    Unpopular opinion, but when I'm job searching, I consider remote jobs to be less desirable than the in-person jobs. The reason is that the human brain learns to associate certain places with certain activities, and if I worked from home, it would be more difficult to keep my work and personal life separate. (Studies have found this to be a common downside of working from home.)
    Now, if I had the space for a home office, I might feel differently about this.

      @Sed_Contra that was just an example. There are many ways to separate work space even in a single room. I have a house in canada that im renting out while im in usa. Taking a 10% pay cut would hurt me a lot more than remote work would help. For me, gas isn’t all that expensive because I drive an efficient car and it’s just relatively cheap where I live. I haven’t worked a full year at my job and current house yet, but I’ve extrapolated my fuel cost to be around $800/year. A 10% pay cut would be $6,750. Then I’d also increase my utility usage because I’d need to maintain my house’s temperature and I’d be using my own facilities throughout the day. My rent is also really cheap, not just for my area but in general. That pay hit would be a serious hindrance. I also don’t have a desk as of yet and have enough to pay on my furniture loan as it is

    While it may be true that companies may miss out on talent by not offering the remote work, the odds that an applicant will get that job exponentially decrease because the applicant is now competing with a much larger pool of applicants for that position.

    Women owned businesses is such a stupid concept to praise based on no valid information. Why does it matter what sex the person is who owns it? If its a good business it will succeed if its bad it SHOULD fail. The stupidity of that statement is astounding. It would be racist if I said "there should be more white owned businesses" same if I said "there should be more black owned businesses" so how do you not consider yourself sexist to say "there should be more female owned businesses". Either that individual is good at running a business/ treating customers right and reading/reacting to the market or they are not, regardless of race, sex, country of origin or any other character trait that beyond their control.
