I had wanted the dr 880 since it was released in 2004. I just couldn’t afford it!Well, I have one now! It is the best drum machine ever made! I have a six string ESP bass and before I got the 880 I replaced the 770s bass with my own. I agree! The upright is awesome and that’s what I use as well! This was a great video! One guy mentioned it was better than a GC flunky demonstrating it. The final factory run was in 2005, after this they knew they perfected it, then it became the Jam. As a drum machine it offers more than any other. It has a built in 707, 808, the base is set up like a fret board, there are TWO kicks and snare buttons for more realistic double bass and rolls on the snare! I have the the Jam 5 and 8, the 880 is way better AS a drum machine! GC isn’t going to be any help on this one folks! They aren’t impossible to find a new one. I got mine from a store in Japan that was back stock, brand new for I believe $250 on Reverb. It doesn’t have a built in sampler, however it has both sampled and FM sounds. With the 880 I have mk 2 sampler, and Yamaha dtx 12multipad which is a sampler as well! There is nothing that can’t be done! It’s also set up as an arranger with the capability of simple to complex in the form of a 4 button progression.I might add this was a nightmare to write! Spellcheck sucks! Peace
Outstanding tutorial. Thank you so much! You've just influenced my buying decision far more than any of the flunkies at Guitar Center ever could. Again thank you!
Great Unit. I have had mine since 2009. I take it and play Shows, Weddings, Coffee Shops. I can do Santana, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley ( and more ). This Unit does so much. It is More than just a Drum Machine, as it has the Bass Machine & also a GT-6 Guitar Processor. I use it with ( 2 ) Boss FS-6 Pedals to control many functions. Its better then practicing with a metronome.
@@daroanvimusen I have (2) FS-6. I use one for the A= Start/Stop & B = Tap Tempo and the Other A = Down & B = UP . . . to Scroll through Guitar Patches ( when not using my larger pedalboard )
would be neat to hear how you would program out parts. im thinking of getting one of these to for creatively dynamic accompaniment to my guitar playing/singing live. curious to know also if accents and note lengths can be changed on programmed bass parts.
You can change values in the programmed patterns. What I generally do is copy the programmed pattern I want to use over to the user sections of the machine where I can edit and save without losing the original.
Hola I just picked up a used Dr 880, question I am watching your video, when following along and when I change from the FingerBs 1 to Finger /Nz1 I get no sound. Same with the other Nz 1 or 2. Problem with the machine or me?
You cannot plug your bass guitar into the DR880 1/4" jack and have it play the internal bass sounds that come in the DR880. You can plug in a bass guitar into the 1/4" input jack and use the few internal bass effects to process your bass guitar. Hopefully you understand the difference.
if you have a midi guitar, then yes you can play the bass tones in the DR880. Simply press edit. Scroll to the MIDI page. hit enter. Choose the setting page. THen you will see a MIDI channel for Bass and one for Drums. Set the midi receive to ON. when you leave the screen it will write the setting to memory. Once your midi controller is set to the Bass MIDI channel and plugged into the DR880 MIDI IN port you will control one of the 40 Bass sounds available. If you want the DR to send MIDI make sure the Transmit is on. PLug a cable from MIDI out to the device you want to control with the DR880. Play around with it. It is super easy and you can't break anything. An 8 year old can figure it out. Experiment and have fun. Cheers
Can I ask "The Music Community" a Question: How do you Erase a Favorite Setting on the DR-880? I combed the owners manual, and searched online = Nothing ?
Only good for practicing guitar at home. Programming beats for recording is virtually impossible! Multiple taps on multiple buttons. Small screen crammed with info. No loop button and no pre-programmed fills, intros or ending! I don't want a device that takes hours of study and more hours to learn how to use. Will either sell it or keep just for guitar jamming. If you're looking to record a polished song get a different device!
You are not paying attention. I have similar devices that are much easier to use and have much better features. You sound foolish. Of course you can program beats with this device… that's what it's designed for. I simply stated that it's more difficult and time-consuming. With my old unit I can program a full song in half the time and it has more features . BTW… I'm not a bot! 🤣
@@darrylfranks6976 Apologies but it sounded a little like you were chastising the device for not having enough preprogrammed material to chain into a song (although I was under the impression it did?) or that it wasn't set up to just play A, B, A, B, C, B (although again from what I've seen linking patterns together doesn't look too bad?) The UI is obviously dated, but I'm intrigued by what you're using? For actually programming your own beats this seems pretty comprehensive & versatile - with the dynamic control, number of :instruments', and also for MIDI compatibility with other samples/DAW/bass synths etc.
I think I know what the issue is. If you haven't had a better experience with another device then this one seems like the bomb 💣. I've seen positive reviews for this one. Since I've had a better experience with other devices I pointed out the flaws. The absence of auto-fills is huge. My other device gives several options for beat changes and fills at the push of a button. Having to program fills and beat changes throughout an entire song is just brutal!!

Can you use a Jamstik to play/program the bass sounds instead of having to tap them out?
I have one but I don't know where are the intros/fill in/endings, can you help please? Thanks.
