I have to say Thanks dude for your post. I have been through 3 Roland R8s and I think this 880 was built off of the Roland R8 Human Feel Machine which was a SPECTACULAR machine. DR 880 is the bigger badder next generation.
You can do micro-surgery to the rhythm with this machine. The learning curve is mind bending however, but it's worth it. I use Hal Leonard famous bands drum books which are note for note for the most part and it ends up sounding just like the albums. For Led Zeppelin, I program the patterns into the user storage and follow a pre-made template sheet I write out. I then record the audio on one track and the midi on another track in my DAW and superimpose Addictive Drums onto the midi track for two drum kits perfectly in sync...Sounds amazing. Roland just discontinued this drum machine I think because people just found it too hard to program. Great drum sounds...spoils you when it comes to other drum machine sounds. Roland just needs to give this machine 10 times the memory , CV/ synch out , usb separate instrument track info for our DAWS and individual drum instruments analog line outs. Also, if they made it easier to use live with a better thought out foot switch arrangement, that would be the icing on the cake.
Yes I think a new version of this machine with all the updated technological bells and whistles would be great! And as you said, if they could make it easier to program it would be so much better, but it really is a great sounding unit.
Nice job with this. I own this unit since 2009 = Love it. I've done live shows with it many times. The only thing I don't understand is: How to Empty/Delete a Favorite? (keys on very bottom?) - I also wish I could Expand the Memory. It's a fantastic unit. Enjoyed your demo & explanation. Stay Safe.
Two Marshall cabinets does no favour to the drum sounds. Better to use full range speakers (P.A, acoustic guitar/ keyboard amps), and use guitar amp simulator that is inside Dr880
This can go very deep into each sound.Really liked it but the programming side had me chewing my feet !
Still loved it !
