My grandparents lived to 89, 91, 94, and 99 years of age. They all used real butter, lard, bacon grease, and even supplemented their "whole" milk with extra cream to make it taste like the milk they used to have when they had their own cows (real WHOLE milk has about double the fat of the "vitamin D" milk in stores). People of their generation were taught that sugar rotted your teeth and made you fat. None of them would have ever let a Twinkie or Oreo enter their house much less their bodies. As a kid once Grandma came to our house and learned what a Pop Tart was and she "aye yi yi"-ed about it for months after that it was "poison" and "shit" and that it would surely be the death of us kids.

Oh yeah, I remembered back in the 70s when they started shoving all this hydrogenated stuff out and telling us butter and lard was no good. Yeah that’s when we all started getting sick and dying from heart disease. That’s what we get when we listen to our government.

@@garygatto3410…..Very true. I’m 62 now. That was in the wheel house of my upbringing. Pushing margarine and orange juice as healthy. Sugar, high fructose corn syrup, fake sugars, vegetable oils. I never had a clue how bad the things I was consuming. Now…I’ve been on a health tear. Sugars, seed oils, white starches out. Green shakes home made. Working out like a mad dog 20 months now. Trying to fend diabetes. It’s like trying to walk up a ski slope.

I love Robert Lustig's work, every time I watch something he has presented especially his 90 min presentation I learnt a huge amount in a short space of time especially about hormonal responses to the ingestion and digestion of foods and the macro nutirents and the fundamentals of thermodynamics.

I love this short video that distills the most important highlights of Dr. Lustig's and others research. Only point, I differ is that the cost can be less than subsized food, sugar, ie soda. Drinking water is cheaper.

You are correct in your assertion of what he means, straight from a cow is excellent but once it is homogenized and its nutritional values are tampered with it lacks the natural saturated fat and usually has added cane sugar and the damaging enzymes that were not available before homogenization become bio available and attack the arteries, I hope this was helpful, cheers.

I would like to know what Professor Lustig means by whole milk. 2:35.
I do a whole milk experiment and can say that wholemilk just from the cow has a very positive effect in a body that has developed diabetes type 2.
I already found that any processed dairy product leads to high glucose levels.
Since he spoke in another seminar that water and milk would be the only save drinks, I assume he means the whole milk, and not the skimmed or processed milk.

Real food is expensive? Potatoes and starches in general are very cheap, as well as seasonal fruits, eggs and cheap cuts of meat. Processed food is expensive, as you pay for the packaging, advertisements and additives, oh and health costs after.

Modern potatoes is not potatoes 100 years ago. Back then it was fibrous and released glucose slowly, now totally different.

The low fat craze wasn't really low fat. The sugar increases your appetite which made you eat the fat back. So it was high fat and high sugar. Disastrous. Fat consumption never decreased.

If you cut out or just down on alcohol, soda, chips, sugar snacks (cookies, cake, candy) all harmful, then you can better afford to buy real food. I know this and still have a had time with hit.

Misconception real food, plant based organic is cheap compared to meat and all other processed foods. And you don’t over eat plants even if you can eat as much as you wish. Now days we also no that all dairy is bad for our health long term.
