    Are the RNC Legend cranks the lightest, strongest cranks ever made?!
    rncbmx.com/pro...
    Coming in at right around 14 ounces depending upon config, the RNC Legend cranks are an insanely light new crankset. They are made from Maraging Steel 300 which is also used on some of wildest applications on the planet. There is so much to say about this metal alone, but just know that it is the real deal and I'm excited to try these cranks out. For now, this is my unboxing and first impressions. Stay tuned for the install and eventual update/review!

    This is incredibly fascinating. To think that we may have found a different material to start working with, in the industry. Could be a game changer.

    It's crazy that a crankset costs more than my entire bike.
    Well it's not for my pocket...

    Great coverage, Brant. Not sure how I feel about the price after buying a set of RNC Superlites last year but they're an incredible product, no doubt! Looking forward to your install and test ride videos.

    I really wish I could justify these because they look so cool but I don’t care about weight enough to spend that much on cranks

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 8 месяцев назад +2

      Don't justify the weight savings. Justify the 2000MPa strength numbers. Or like 300,000psi.
      FYI. Good frames in the mtb world and bmx world have been glorified for numbers like 75,000psi.
      The Sunday and odyssey 41 thermal process gets like 1000 to 1200MPa at best.
      1k for cranks you'll never break that come with a ti spindle out the box. 80 spline is a bit annoying tho

    Very cool! Always nice to see some experimentation and original new stuff in bmx. Same like with Nowear, moving out of the traditional 2 piece handlebars and diamond-shaped frames...
    I have no knowledge about tensile strength and fatigue points, but I do imagine that one would like some flex in their bmx components, when doing big drops and stuff? Would love to learn about this Maybe a podcast talk with RNC's main guy, Brant?
    Also, why is there so much info for headtube angles, crank lengths, chainstay length, but almost no info on Q factor in the freestyle bmx industry? it makes HUGE difference in mountain bike or road riding, for example. Why would nobody care about that in the freestyle world?

    • @rncbmx2456
      @rncbmx2456 10 месяцев назад

      the q factor is really narrow on these compared to most cranks. i'll get some info on it up on my website later

    They look amazing and I'd love to ride a set just to check them out but I can tell you right now I will not be buying a set..... Not unless I win the lottery someday soon. 😂

    Well as a knifemaker i know there is a endless amount of different types of steel out there aside from the 4130 that BMXers are familiar with. Among those I could think of a number of steels that would be amazing for bmx parts, only drawback would be that those steels are vastly more expensive than 4130. So a company would need to find a balance between cost/performance. You have to think, the vast majority of end users being kids/or kids parents buying these parts. I doubt most people would want to pay 1-2K for cranks, or a BMX bike that all together costs over 10K with premium steels. So 4130 is a great balance.
    My only concern with this design is that the arm doesnt wrap all the way around the spindle boss, which this is a common failure point on alot of crank arms so i'd personally like that bit of extra insurance

      @Brant_Moore  10 месяцев назад

      Yea you’re absolutely right in terms of the majority of bmx and whether or not they adopt something. Cranks like these definitely aren’t going to become the norm, especially for kids. But there’s a real group of people out there who want the lightest best stuff they can get and it’s cool that rnc is making stuff for that group of people.
      I’d also agree about the metal wrapping all the way around. Hopefully this stuff is strong enough that it won’t matter!

    Those cranks are so lightweight because the weight is in the price! 😂 I think the redline 3 piece cranks look way better and only cost $100 on eBay.

    Haha wait till you have whole maraging steel bikes with bolts in materials that make 4130 and 4140 look like hi tensile steel. And aluminium alloys that are comparable to non post weld heat treated 4130.

    Says made in the USA but there are Japanese letters below the RNC logo on the crank arm. It translates to Legends. What is up with that?
