Its so sweet to see how happy the baby is, jumping and playing so cute. Now we are waiting on the next new baby to come, so beautiful to see new life on the farm. The chickens are funny, the baby chicken are growing fast.
Welcome to the family, little Nora Maple Lumnah! It's a good family to belong to because you are so safe and very well cared for, none better! You did a lot of work today Al! Today’s Lumnah LOL came when baby goat was outside with springs in her legs. For a young un, she sure likes to leap for joy. Nora the Explora is right on. That little goat is the hoppiest little goat I have ever seen. LOL. She is so darn cute. Your meat loaf made me hungry for it. Good job on moving those black chickens, we will see more of them now. 😺💖🐔🐷
It was snow this morning. I have seedlings in the house that can't go out yet because of the weather. Ready for spring. God's blessing to you and yours
Hi one and all at LA, as always another great vid!. Al, I have made square pallet compost containers, I put a lid on top (the compost sits on pallets, all - round aeration) then strap the bottom and lift/tip over, bottom now top! I do this a couple of times, when ready , open side take out what you need, this is repeated year-on-year,! very little work, hope this helps?. Great to see you all well and enjoying all!!. God bless.
Maybe split the rubber on the grain feeder. That way if the baby is standing on one side, Willow can still open the other side. If you want compost faster, You have to turn the pile in order for it to heat up, and keep it more active, they need to be oxiginated. They also need some moisture, its fine if you don't but it will take a lot longer for it to compost down. You could split that back yard area and then Willow and the baby could go out anytime. I would also be handy if you had to keep goats separated. That baby is just so adorable, I just love watching her buck and frolic.
The temp difference in the compost piles is probably due to the older pile having rotted more of the wood and hay, releasing a lot of the energy. The newest pile having fresher wood chips and straw generates more heat since those are actively rotting. I had a local tree trimmer bring me a huge pile of mulch from some red maples he trimmed last spring. On cool mornings you could see the steam rise from it, but as it aged and rotted the steam was less noticeable. It has aged a year now and is great mulch. I have it filling the bottom of my raised beds for aeration and to generate some warmth for the roots of the plants.
I love the show Nora put on for the herd. I think you might wanna put a wood platform near the girls feeder. The spring thaw might mess up their hoofs a bit. Stay safe! The virus is passing through Connecticut and took a friend of mine with it. Safety first y'all!
Your meatloaf looks good! My friend’s (and now mine) recipe uses equal parts ground beef, ground pork, and bulk sausage. She mixes them, adds bread crumbs, an egg or two, a small can of tomato sauce, and a whole (small) box of baby Bella mushrooms, ground in the food processor......mix all that up with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder and form your loaf. Paint the top with ketchup, cover the whole thing with strips of bacon and put several sprigs if fresh thyme on top before baking. She baked hers in a cake pan, but I put mine to bake on a grid-shaped cookie rack on or in a pan, so the grease drips away and your meatloaf doesn’t sit in it.. this makes a big meatloaf, so plenty of leftovers... My friend passed away from ALS nearly 2 years ago, and I think of her often; certainly when I’m making her meatloaf...
Good Mawning Lumnah’s! Homestead is looking great! Can’t wait to see the new greenhouse, compost piles need some soaking to get them heating up again. Woke up to 2 inches of snow in NY this morning! Bring on the warm weather, please!!!!
Make manure tea and pour it in. It’ll heat up way fast especially if you use chicken poo. However cattle panels let in a lot of air which causes the temp to go down, so your going to have to keep it really wet.
Al, Cut the feeder rubber flap and hinge board in half so the little one can get up on it without blocking Willow from accessing the other side. Can you repurpose the greenhouse frame for a Mule garage?
Nora Maple works! I had such a laugh and smile on my face watching her bounce all over! I replayed that several times. I loves me a good meatloaf. I normally make mine into a bread loaf shape so if fits on sandwich bread nicely. I would take all that great compost from under Rusty's coop either to the new greenhouse or to the raised beds. You've got compost seeds galore with those hay bales. Blessings to all.
What a scene when the goats bowed their heads to the baby it was something out of LION KING I think her name should be Simba because I think she’s destined to be herd leader ( or Nala)
That new kid is adorable and so funny to watch. It's also so cute to see the momma give her baby lovins too. This dinner looks so awesome too Gina. I wonder how they got out of the pen....Sheesh...too smart goats in the house is gonna be very entertaining.
I've noticed that Olivia won't open New Yolk City egg collector since the skunk incident . Tell her how much I enjoy watching her learn from you. She is very smart!!
Nora is my sister's name. She always needed to be the center of attention, just like Willow's Nora. Independent and sassy. Gina, that meatloaf and cole slaw looked amazing. Stay safe and God Bless.
That New Country Organics goat feed looks exactly like their chicken feed! My chickens ate only a few of the grains and left behind most of the rest, including the green pellets and peas. So I switched to a different organic crumble that they eat (mostly).
Get those compost piles active. Turn and water. Also to a sprayer put together 2 cans of beer, 1 can of coke (not diet), 2 cups ammonia, 2 cup of used tea bag water, 1/4 cup baby shampoo. spray each layer then water as you turn those piles. They will get active and start breaking down.
Good mornin New Ham Shire ..... Nora is quite the character already. It was hilarious to see her jumping up on Willow's feed bin and preventing Willow from lifting up the flap ~8^) Thanks for the laugh. I agree AL ... it's tough to tear down something you put so much effort into. Can you put that plastic over the compost, or will that deprive them of air (and water)? Nice to see Rusty and the gals in their new digs ... bet they will be very happy to get on pasture! How much longer until we may see some Copper Maran chicklets from the incubator? You're gonna be knee deep in chickens pretty soon. Hope this latest cold snap moves out of the northeast ... it's slowing down my seed germination, although my tomatoes are starting to push ... woohoo! Have a nice Thursday AL, Gina & Olivia .... your goats are like herding cats! Take care.
Compost piles need moisture to really cook so I suggest that you add water to ramp up the process. The third compost pile probably has more moisture, that's why the temperature is higher.
Combining all your compost will give you the best results. Pile it as high as you can. I composted all winter in New Hampshire. If you can light a fire in winter you can compost successfuly
If it was me, I would use the tractor bucket to scoop that greenhouse compost and pile it on top of that pile from the bin you removed. That should get things working faster. It might even be ready by the time you get the new greenhouse built.
That little baby goat is just too cute and rambunctious. She has me smiling. What's her name? Take care and be safe! Nevermind, so Nora is her name. She is adorable.
Good mauhnin Lumnah Acres ! Another productive day on the homestead. Willow wants to go for a visit and show off her baby! How old must she be to be introduced into the herd? Will she have to be weaned first? Or just big enough to defend herself? She is such a cutie! Looking forward to the greenhouse build. Take care!
Wet the compost piles and turn it a few times over the next month or so, and it will break down much faster. Once that chicken poo gets inside the pile and wettened, it will heat right up and won't freeze back up, since it'll be cooking.
They are a hoot. Yep, good old MN. We are in the extreme NE part of MN and missed the last big snow. Just got 2" but a LOT of snow still on the ground up here.
Next meat loaf you make, take your fingertips and press down all around the meat loaf mixture about1/2 inch, and then make a shallow grove down the center of your loaf. It will cook more evenly and come out of your container easily.
to get heat you need a bit of green which gives the goodies some where to start lke bacteria if you want it broken down faster if you only add carbon or dry brown matter you going to get a fungi dominated compost wont get as hot and be slower to brek down but be nice at the end if you add some green soon like green leaves grass anything thatll rot quckly will let the bacteria get working and get very hot and start the brown compost quicker but wont be so fungi dominated but still be very good compost
Nora is such a cutie. Love watching her jump around like that. Speaking of snow, we've had a few dustings the past few days, but are expecting 4 to 6 inches tomorrow.
I love the name Nora:-) But mostly I love that Olivia got to name her😃 And I I love how she always looks on the bright side and is always positive! Instead of complaining about the rain, she sees how much more wonderful it is rather than cold and snowy 😃 But if it was cold and snowy I bet she would see the good in that too😂 loved to video today!
I'm sure it was bitter sweet to tear down the old greenhouse, but it will be worth it since you are building a big and better one. The composting pile falling was so funny because of your expression. lol Nora Maple is adorable, I can't believe Willow opened the door and took her and Nora Maple out with the other goats. I am so in love with Nora Maple, sorry Hope. Gina, supper looked so yummy!
Meanwhile here in the Puget Sound area it's been unseasonably nice for a couple of weeks now, T-shirt weather. Paying a dreadful price for it though, the cottonwood and alder trees are shedding pollen at a furious rate and naturally, I'm allergic to both. Ah-choo!
In the UK it's been unseasonably warm for a few weeks now, too. I wonder if it has anything to do with the huge reduction in vehicle use and other emissions due to the stay-at-home policies? Stay safe in Seattle!
You should dig up some of that dirt from where the winter chicken coop was once you have the greenhouse is up and put that dirt in there as a top layer... or mix it in with the other dirt.
I think the reason why it's not high temperature of the first one is because when you took it apart it wasn't really compacted down like the second and the third one is more you didn't get it compacted enough that might be without fail to
The piles may need to be turned so they get O2 inside and start them heating. Of course they have to be thawed out first. The newest pile probably got activated since it is new and plenty of O2 inside it.
l Chipped Chopped Ham -Original Recipe.Ingredients: 1 lb "Islay Chipped Ham" 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup BBQ sauce 4 soft hamburger buns Original sauce recipe is: 1 lb chipped ham 4 tbsp vinegar 2 tbsp water 4 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp dry mustard 8 tbsp catsup paprika for color
Your first piles may have run short on nitrogen. Need turned and wet and bet they light right back up. Not freezing hard also made a difference I'm sure. My pile went only slightly dormant over winter but I had to turn it more frequently. We get cold but not near as wet as you do
Saw you throwing your screws and fasteners in your seed starting tray and I thought..... wow! That Al is brilliant! He's going to save soooooo much money grow his own fasteners! Now that's self sufficient! 😂

The first compost pile needs a flat top, or inverted top, to catch the rainwater. The cone shaped top sheds water like a roof, hence, no heating.

Al i love you and your family and you work so hard to make them all happy xxx
Awesome name for the new baby goat. 🐐 Hopefully its warmer on your side of the state today, we woke up to snow again here.
Lol lol lol the smiles we get watching Willows Baby Nora. Great eats, love your choices. Thank you 🙏
I love the name Nora:-) But mostly I love that Olivia got to name her😃 And I I love how she always looks on the bright side and is always positive! Instead of complaining about the rain, she sees how much more wonderful it is rather than cold and snowy 😃 But if it was cold and snowy I bet she would see the good in that too😂 loved to video today!
My favorite meal! I giggled when you called one of the piglets a fool! I love the name of the baby!
Much better audio this video! I could hear Gina's voice much clearer and I loved the music over power tool sounds. That baby goat is the cutest too!
You could use that old greenhouse frame to make a shed for your tractor or mule
So pretty out there when the snow is gone! Looking good man!
Al, Gina and Olivia thank you for a wonderful video as always keep up the good work out have a blessed day
I like the drone footage that was synched with your audio of you working on the ground. Nice touch.
Hope turned into such a beautiful goat 😍💜🐐
Meanwhile here in the Puget Sound area it's been unseasonably nice for a couple of weeks now, T-shirt weather. Paying a dreadful price for it though, the cottonwood and alder trees are shedding pollen at a furious rate and naturally, I'm allergic to both. Ah-choo!
In the UK it's been unseasonably warm for a few weeks now, too. I wonder if it has anything to do with the huge reduction in vehicle use and other emissions due to the stay-at-home policies? Stay safe in Seattle!
Nora is perfect name for baby goatie. It will be fun to watch her grow. ♥️
You should dig up some of that dirt from where the winter chicken coop was once you have the greenhouse is up and put that dirt in there as a top layer... or mix it in with the other dirt.
playing baby goats...oh my goodness....too stinking cute!
The newest pile probably got activated since it is new and plenty of O2 inside it.
l Chipped Chopped Ham -Original Recipe.Ingredients: 1 lb "Islay Chipped Ham"
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
4 soft hamburger buns
Original sauce recipe is:
1 lb chipped ham
4 tbsp vinegar
2 tbsp water
4 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp dry mustard
8 tbsp catsup
paprika for color
Your first piles may have run short on nitrogen. Need turned and wet and bet they light right back up. Not freezing hard also made a difference I'm sure. My pile went only slightly dormant over winter but I had to turn it more frequently. We get cold but not near as wet as you do
The name is a good one for the baby goat. Your meatloaf sounds fantastic right now Gina. Have a great weekend and Stay Safe!
Wow, you guys work really hard. I am fascinated by your various tasks.
