Adding a few more DVD discs to your stabilizer will increase the mass/ "flywheel" effect and give you even more stability, at a weight gain of course. The more mass a wheel has the more stability it can provide due to more inertia -basic physics. Nice project!

This is Genius! You can get a hard drive for a few Dollars purchasing an old computer from certain Goodwill stores or Church donation shops. The same places that sell clothes by the pound or less than a $1.
Awesome and simple. I am building a robotic camera arm with a stabilized gimbal mount. I might need to incorporate something like this to improve stability, minus the exposed spinning disc of death for close-ups.
Great idea but, I would recommend keeping the housing for safety and protection. HDD motors are made to run in a clean environment. They're not like drone motors that have an open bell that exposes parts of the coils. They also use the aluminum housing as a heat sink. Second, the thing is noisy and that could wreck your taping experience. Third, that thing spins fast. Probably even faster than 5400/7200 RPM since we're using an external controller that doesn't have a set target speed. It's basically a high-speed metal disc that's exposed and could probably be caught in something.
You could lower the speed by reducing voltage. He seemed to be using three 18650 batteries which is pretty close to the 12 volts that hard drive is probably getting in the computer. I doubt it's necessary to run at 7200 RPM to achieve the gyroscope effect
@@seansavage4766 You'll need a faster speed to stabilize heavier cameras though. I've tried this with an old hard drive, an RC ESC, and an Arduino and what I've found out while holding the drive in my hand is that higher speeds are needed to resist stronger changes of my wrist's roll.
@@wolfdale_3m makes sense for sure...I just saw a little go pro on there and wondered if he needed all that speed. I'm no expert tho.. I'm a trial and error type of builder
@@wolfdale_3m That's definitely the case..a double or triple platter would make for quite a bit of rotating mass. I wonder if you could reduce speed at that point.. maybe 2 batteries.Cut out a lot of noise. Achieve a similar result.

Huge amount of respect and praise for the quality of your video! Amazing quality visuals, audio, video, environment, music, timing, humor, content - everything! I've been watching RUclips videos on a variety of subjects almost non-stop for 18 months and this is the single best-quality video I've seen. I have only one suggestion - for easier locating of specific videos you might consider utilizing the Playlists capability more by creating various folders in which to place each of your videos. That's the first place I always go to find more content on the same subject (after I check out About to find out who is behind the camera). Otherwise, keep up the great work and thank you for the quality work. Regarding this specific video, you missed suggesting a repurposing source for the brushless controller. What are they and where might I find one that is being discarded otherwise?

Plot twist: His friend recorded him by using another one.
Well that's how you can make artificial gravity
