How to change an RV Dinette to Lazyboy Recliners

  • Опубликовано: 18 мар 2016
  • Today we completed another Truck Camper Magazine Mod Contest where this one encompassed changing our Dinette to Lazyboy Recliners! This changeover can be accomplished without any tools, and can easily be changed back if we wish. The essence of this change was to give us better more 'cushiony' seating during our long travels with the Truck Camper over many months. In addition to the new seats, it also includes custom articulating tables to allow eating, or laptops, right at our fingertips. These tables pivot out of the way for sitting down and travel. This change should be a perfect upgrade for our lifestyle!
Note: We tried several chairs and they didn’t work out satisfactorily. One was a ‘gaming’ chair that was too stiff and not cushiony enough (sent back). Another was an IKEA wooden chair that I had to cut 6” off its height (broke, not robust enough). These last chairs are perfect! They are leather, with arms, swiveled, and the back tilted. These are called ‘Floor Chairs’ and after exhausting internet searches could only be found in China! Although moderately expensive, we spent the money and are thrilled with the quality! A link to the chairs is as follows:
    www.aliexpress...
We would greatly appreciate your support by using the link below for all your future Amazon.com purchases. It will be totally transparent to your Amazon shopping, and doesn’t cost you a thing!

The articulating arm was found easily on Amazon. As expected, it had to be customized to fit our Camper. Here is a link as follows:

One of the best mods I've seen. I've always thought those dinettes were too restrictive and unconformable.

Not only an excellent job but nicely filmed and presented. It's amazing camper manufacturers have not clued in on what a great option this is. I've spent 3 months in a camper and know first hand how uncomfortable those dinettes are.

A friend did a similar mod in his C class. Instead of the swing away table, he used a pop up coffee type table that could be use to eat on and then drop down for a foot rest. Works amazingly well.

@@JNatella i have RA and live in a lot of pain, especially feet, ankles, and legs. I bought the Moon Pod ottoman and it’s wonderful. I can always scrunch it for more support, or whatever I need. Pricey, but totally worth it for me. Goes with any chair or sofa. BTW, for me, the Moon Pod chair was too hard to get in/out of, but I’m old, lol. Their ottoman is great!

I'd gotten a quote for a (factory order) Chalet a few years ago, was surprised and disappointed that as with other manufacturers, no one was offering this as a factory option. A Truck Camper by definition is a small space. Seems to me its more likely to have two-persons on board than 4 or more. I think the manufacturers should offer comfortable recliner seating for two, with a means of optionally seating two others, perhaps on a bench that could be mounted in front of the recliners. Your design is great.

Been looking for something like this for awhile. This is absolutely great! You did a superb job. I was thinking about using this on a Lance 1995 which has the full length drawers but would still work. My only addition would be to somehow have a chair with a footrest too. Otherwise, this is my 95% solution and I am now a subscriber. Well done!

good quality recliners are the most important thing for me ! I wouldn't buy even a small RV, without a set of recliners. I sure don't need that dinette. Eat outside or on a foldup table. I have difficulty laying flat ...sleep apnea/chronic sinusitis. I want to do what you did....or just have the dealer remove the dinette ...altogether.

We would love to do this, however our dinette is a slide and is raised up and not level with main floor of the trailer. Bought chairs to do this, but now they sit up too high, need a stool to get into them....now we have to remove the frame work for the benches, which isn't what we had in mind. Other than the bed, this would be our only seating area, we have a 21 ft. Springdale Mini

I've been mulling over replacing the large dinette in our older 5th wheel. It sticks into the trailer across from the galley and blocks traffic flow. I'd rather have something narrower, more comfortable, and built a lot better than the factory booth seats. A couple of swiveling easy chairs I saw in a newer trailer would be great. No need to save the dinette. I almost bought one, planning to take out one side of the dinette where the bottleneck is the worst, but the seller of a nice looking one on ebay just wasted my time and that fell through. At some point, however, I plan to do that modification. We'll lose some storage space, I'll need to make a new smaller table, and will have to do some cosmetic work on the floor, but it will be worth it, I'm fairly certain.

Fantastic conversion! Who wouldn't rather sit in a comfy recliner vs dinette cushions? One issue for me...half the recliner is missing...the leg support. I wouldn't like my legs to dangle over the edge. Do you have an ottoman or some other inventive idea for leg support?
