- I spend a couple of days playing portable ham radio during a heatwave in the UK. I was hoping to try out a 17m dipole using 2 mobile whips but I ended up facing numerous tech problems including a battery failure due to not keeping the battery in good health.
While it was enjoyable it was a bit of a struggle to work in the Sun which for the UK was very strong.
Kit used:
Icom IC-7200
Icom IC 705
M1ECC portable antenna kit
Food was a Chicken and Chorizo paella

we are all here willing you the best. loving the fact that you "do the best you can" on every video and how you accept the result no matter what. good on you.
You were out there, you tried. Liking the Keith Floyd approach. Next time Carl, there's always a next time. 73
Adams was amazing.
Restaurant at the End of the Universe wasn't quite as on point as The Guide though. Brilliant, but quite variable.
Cheers Carl, another really enjoyable video. Mark, 2E0MSR
Enjoyable little video with a bit of everything, even a contact in the end too.😂
My friend, is never too early for a glass of wine. :) 73 de YO3ITI
Sport brella down one side of the vehicle with the least wind+ a beach chair.👍
Hot hot hot! Well done Carl ☀️
So funny to see the English when it's above 20 degrees, like your videos Carl 🤟
I am trying sharing radio time with the family while camping. They like sunbeathing, so I can do some qrp. Keep up the videos.
Loved this vid lol ... love a bit of paella! 73 M0VFX
I always enjoy your narration and your cooking! Keep with the great videos!

Thanks for the interesting video. Too hot, umm. Hi. We're you feeding the whole campsite, more radio please Carl and deffo less skin hi.
Truly a British comment.
We complain when it snows because 90% of the county will drive in snow with low profile tyres thinking it's ok.
We complain when it's too hot, because we get 1 or 2 weeks a year when it's hot, and just a few days either side it's was in the 20'c
At least your Food was HOT ;-)
Take care my friend. 73
The British pale skinned bodies can’t cope 😃
Well that went well at least Coooking wise ;-)... Take a look at GM3SEK's filter/balun stuff... I for one have an order in to wind up something a bit better than usual to kill off that shack/car bound RF giving you funny SWR readings !
Once again, summing up a mediocre day with radio contacts followed up with a great camp cooked meal. I do need to bring food with me on my radio outings. Last night I activated a POTA on the ocean with FT8 and also had a few contacts face to face asking me what I was fishing for. I truly enjoy being out of doors playing with my radio, and hoping my antenna experiments work today.
Yes it’s a mini adventure and we all need to enjoy mini adventures.
Hi Carl, I really like your dipole antenna setup, very nice! Also just a thought, Carl, maybe if you have the wine a little earlier you might find the solution to your hf problems with higher then expected swr with higher power a lot sooner! HIHI. Also another great cooking section, some great videos, and keep'em coming. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve used the 2 whip dipole set up before and found that I was getting a lot of rf back, swr was high if the ae was low and I couldn’t stop it helicoptering on a sotabeams pole.
I should really dig it out and try again!
Any chance you can send out a notification on RUclips when you on the radio with frequency when you out on your trips so we can listen out for you ?
I should do that! I must remember to notify folk!
I don't play radio in the heat. Can't take it anymore.
Is the days … was that what you went off to watch at the end ?
Yes The Days, superb, frightening, oppressive in number of things going wrong during the incident. Just watching last 30 mins and have been expecting the good guys winning from the first episode but every minute has been about loss of control.
Hi Carl, I have done a experiment here at my home location with two 40m Ham Sticks with the same T peace and a rotator on the bottom, the fibreglass pole is about 6m ish, The bandwidth it 80 KHZ on the ham sticks, I have to use the ATU in sections of 40m but it works well so people have been telling me, quick one the poles your using are they stacked with a bracket holding them together like a scaffolding pole? Thanks De 2E1FUE
The poles slot into each other, the top section I’ve used 2” plastic tubing
@@M0SZT Nice where do you get them I saw someone at the rally other week he got 3 sections any links to them Thanks Tom 2E1FUE
What level of SPF sun tan lotion do you use on the head?? And does it cause QRM?
Factor 50 or sometimes a black bin liner with gaffa tape 🥴
Onslow????
