Glad ETCC’s grip on NoVs is being loosened slightly. No one to blame but themselves for that.

Thanks Carl. Appreciate the clarity on the new rules. Personally the only thing i dont like is that they are going to revoke my foundation and intermediate licenses.
All the best to you 73...

I agree with you that the call sign / data base issue. As for power levels, I wish there was more emphasis on the quality and the bandwidth of transmissions. Some leave a lot to be desired and more power will only make them worse neighbors on the bands.

nice to see you carl. nothing there which alters my use of my g call, more power 1000w = more qrm, I work zl to uk on 5w and a simple vertical ant. Iceland, a dream destination for most people, as is zl for most maybe. More people on cw would be nice, especially from the uk, turn the pc off and key on hi hi. 73 mate.

@@M0SZThi Carl, and hi Brian! I never imagined I would have the patience to learn CW, but have been pleasantly surprised at how much fun it has been. And it's resulted in truly amazing contacts with great people! I think you'll enjoy learning. 73 M3KXZ

Similarly, Carl, I seldom operate from home, so most of my ham radio time is portable (camping) or POTA. It's always enjoyable to see what you have cooking in the rear of the Land Rover. In January and February, I have planned for some Island operations from Vancouver Island and Hawaii. 73 Carl, and a Happy Christmas. I look forward to seeing your future escapades from your side of the world.

Hi Carl. Nice video mate as usual. I have read the new changes with interest and I have to say the proposal paper is well written, and seems to have taken on board various input from stakeholders. You can never please all of the people! Power output increase is a nice to have, losing my old call signs is just like selling a car - I am not attached to the number plate. The internet stuff for all is good. Foundation holders may well have extremely good knowledge of RF topics and I applaud the use of airborne TX. Overall I am in favour. It's about responsibility and empowerment (no pun intended!).

As a 2E0, I feel really annoyed that Advanced got 600W more and we only got an extra 50W. Really a slap in the face.

More power just means more noise on the bands, lots of amplifiers with tiny aerials in built up areas.....

I agree with the changes except the ability to change your call sign every 5 years. Too soon for silent keys etc. Also the change of 2E0 calls to M8/9. I did see that there are more foundation licences than intermediate. So what happens when the M7 block runs out?
    Merry Christmas Carl!

I'd rather Ofcom did something about the QRM caused by various devices.
Broadband internet on the phone line giving me S8 noise 160m to 20m. Maybe it will disappear when copper wires are removed. I think the boiler next door is causing noise on m.w. so anything I would like to try on 472 kHz is probably out, and maybe 136 kHz. S6 noise sometimes on 2m.

At least it clears up a few anomalies perhaps, a friend with a foundation licence was extremely competent at building and modifying radios and other equipment so it was a little crazy that he was not officially allowed to operate it. As for the power limits, they seem to be the most widely talked about factor but probably not a huge deal. A few great concessions to encourage a bit of creativity with network related radio. Sorry not so happy with the re-issuing of callsigns.

I can't see anything affecting my operating.
I certainly won't run 1,000 Watts. If somebody now runs 400 Watts they gain about half an S point. Is it worth it?
Removing the need for NOV is good. I've not looked but will it apply to special event stations too or will we still need to let Ofcom know?
Building gear is great as I have always done it anyway but if it gets others into building that's all for the good of the hobby.
    G4GHB.

as regards the license changes, not being able to still hold my M6 as well as my full call ,concerns me as i have 12k plus M6 qsos, in fact i had 2 m6 qsl cards arrive this week,my full call does have the majority of my qsos on it, i know my qrz/lotw & clublog are setup for both my M6 & G2 call which i would prefer stayed that way,in regards to the 1KW power limit and your comment about people buying a 1kw linear and running full belt that in itself is bad practise, mine are 1.3kw capable and clean output @ 400w with M&P coax, there is currently certain well known M3 stations txing well over there 10w already, along with 2e0s on 60m,unless & until ofcom clamp down on these stations that problem will increase when power levels go up imho, thanks for your input Carl :)

    • @petemillis4666
      @petemillis4666 6 месяцев назад +1

I'm definitely not in favour of the power increases. As an M3 I am limited to 10W, and only rarely use that. Nearly all my QSOs are 5W or less. Running low power like this really encourages learning and development of good operating skills. I love it.
Would be interested in knowing who the alleged high power, well known M3s and M6s are.

Meanwhile in Australia, it's just been announced that as of 24FEB2024, Amateur Licenses will change from in individual apparatus license with an annual fee to a Class License that is fee free. There is an initial cost for callsign allocation and certification of qualifications or RPL, but that's it. As long as you respond to confirm you still require the callsign every few years, no more fees. I'm going to renew my long expired Advanced Class license as soon as it begins. It's also being returned to government (ACMA) control instead of 3rd party (Maritime College in Tasmania).

Ofcom fails to regulate the HF spectrum most urban hams have a horrendous noise floor making it impossible to operate from home. Cheap Chinese electrical equipment, it's disgusting what is allowed to come into this country, the old DTI would never of allowed this onslaught of QRM. But most hams will not report this unlawful interference because they don't want to upset the neighbours ridiculous in my opinion it's because of this lake of reporting ofcom have the upper hand stating only had x amount of complaints therefore they will not investigate. It is up to us all to report undue interference unless you want your neighbours to stop you enjoying Amateur radio, that is your legal right to do so? i know this is off the subject but feel I have to get the word across because the local urban QRM is killing the hobby for thousands of people.
