Ocelotl is one of the interesting characters to me. Though I love it when someone quits and a bot comes in and they are called "revolver ocelot." Nice touch ubisoft by referencing Metal Gear Solid.
I think the main thing that shocks me is the fact the entire premise of the Aztec jungle warrior doesn’t have bleed feats and stealth feats in the game (despite my hatred for stealth as a feat) like i think they don’t want to make another shamans feat layout to make him “more unique” (Even though since Medjay all heros have very bland and basic secondary and third options, like name one hero that has gotten sharpen blade or even short tempered) For me Ubisoft has gotten so scared of making an extremely powerful hero with alot of feats like prior or J.J. That they straight up refuse to give heros actually good options. Like imagine if ocelotl had sharpen blade or Gryphon had Longbow instead of Tough as nails (fits as all factions have long bow and the Aztecs have blood related rituals)
My highest rep was kensei, then came ocelotl who I picked up because of his fashion and after playing him up to rep 50 I would consider him my main. His vibrant gear, all of voicelines (of which he has the most out of any character in he game), his combos and feats really stuck with me, I do agree that some quality of life changes would have done him better but I think he's fine where he is.
Personally needs something different for his Prowl Stance.. I'd love an innate "Stealth" meshed n with it to fit the prowling notion and maybe a few attacks other than the parry food he gets with the jump in heavy that he can't feint.
I feel like they should give him more movesets while he’s in his hunter stance and his only heavy attack in the current hunter stance should do bleed damage when it is fully executed which would give him access to more movesets that deal bleed damage and are performed only by his spear considering it’s lighter and faster than his macuahuitl
Update: super fun to play, but after hitting like rep 7 and unlocking all the cosmetics, there isn't enough armor sets to be unique and I couldn't find a reason to want to keep playing him. He literally has like 3 end game sets. Much more rewarding to play like a year 1 hero with aton of customization options imo. Ubi needs to give more sets to these new heros
I'm glad Ubisoft didn't make Ocelotl into a assassin though i wished they gave him an armored variant as the Aztecs did have their own version of the gambeson. Also regarding the malding about Ocelotl and other unarmored heroes having hyperarmor its clearly more about their willpower rather than the amount of armor they have in their cases.
Yeah, hyper armor isn't really about durability....it's about fighting through the pain. He still took the damage, it's not invincibility, it's that he's willing to get hit in order to hit you harder
Ocelotl is honestly one of my top favorites, but his feats aren't quite the best really, and he's lacking the coyote warrior and temple guard armor sets. Plus he really should've been an assassin for sure.
@@jasonhake5502 Yeah they said all the Outlanders are supposed to be hybrids only, for whatever reason. Don't get me started on his missing bleed attacks.
@@The-Black-Death I see why they wouldn't do it though. Knowing ubisoft, he would've been another assassin that has strong dodge attacks and a bleed mechanic
@@jasonhake5502 So you're saying Nobushi, Sohei and every other hero with bleed attacks should all have their bleed attacks taken away then, because the one hero based around bleeding weapons shouldn't be allowed to have any bleeding attacks...
@@The-Black-Death that's not at all what I just said, man. I'm saying I see why they might not have, because they already have several light assassins built around bleed inducing mix-ups. Think shaman, PK, and glad.
Ocelotl, to me, is one of those characters I can just play when I feel a bit out of it or just too lazy to put real thought into reads. I don’t play him all the time but he’s a nice break which still manages to be interesting, unlike old Medjay.
One of the main issues in my opinion is not that he has so many options, it's that his offense is hard to punish. If he misses a chain bash he can go right into hyperarmor and trade with dodge attacks. I think his offense makes sense for his character, a relentless flurry of attacks mixed with fast chained lights. The tradeoff nobody talks about with Ocelot is the fact that you cannot delay his chained attacks like Shaolin for example. His timings are so strict that Ocelot players don't have much choice but to trust their own button mashing and hope it works. You basically get raw options for the price of time during your chain to think about your options. This also makes sense for the character in my opinion, Ocelot seems to be driven by emotion and rage/vengeance so its less thinking and more attacking for him.
I need to confess, in my mind i changed the lore in my mind since day one. I truly believe than the ocelotls are pretty happy with the battles because they can capture a lot of prisioners for their gods
I think the idea with giving some characters hyper armor has more to do with those characters supposedly being beefy with high hp that allows them to trade hits, rather than having an actually high defense. Remember, hyper armor is a loan word from other fighting games, and in FH it's supposed to be called uninterruptable. It's supposed to show these characters can ignore pain and don't flinch. Still, I more or less agree it's weird who gets it.
Aztec fough agaisnt well armored spanish soldiers with cannons and powder and tlaxcaltecas with spanish tecnology so it is actually bealivable for me that they are fighting Knights like spanish conquerors back then
I know its called hyper ARMOUR but personally I always understood that mechanic as being related to the weapon as opposed to the armour. I always saw it as the weapon being swung in way that the momentum keep it going even if the person swinging is hit as opposed to armour protecting the person to let them finish the swing.
I don't care if the momentum is strong, if I take a blow while swinging with maximum momentum, I'm still gonna get knocked back. To me, that concept applies instead to unblockable attacks: attacks with so much force and momentum behind them that regular blocking won't suffice in stopping it. Hyperarmor meanwhile is the use of ones own armor or willpower to endure a strike so they can finish an attack. But the issue is some characters don't appear to have the necessary armor to make that work.
You know what would be an excellent addition to Ocelotl? Take his little icon off of the minimap, like peace keeper has. It's not too big of a change but on more than one occasion ive actually had really cool moments where a peacekeeper catches me when i didnt know she was even there because i tend to look at the minimap when running zone to zone.
Something that I see a lot of people say is that Ocelotl is brain dead with his move set. Take note that the aztecs wear jaguar pelts because they believe it gives them the animals ferocity and jaguars are also unpredictable. That what makes him unique because they can change their move set and it’s what gives them mixups. Mixups and skill is what it take to play this game.
From a 1v1 perspective it doesnt matter that much that ocelotl can do a lot of different things at any point in chain its more so just that his chain bash, chain light, chain zone and finisher bash work very well together. Fast chain lights are actually powerful on a character that has other strenghts as well and doesnt have to finish the chain with them and his chain bash follow ups let him continue the chain even if you dodge attack him or let him shit on characters like Warden since his chain lights catch his dodge bash. Imo make it so his chain zone after chain bash doesnt beat dodge attacks and let players dodge the chain light after chain bash. This give players more ways to counter him.
Turning ocelotl into an assassin could improve the character. Deflect with bleed effect or the "hidden" stance attack with some bleeding effect could improve the "personality" of the character. Into what i feel he could be at least.
I believe that all ocelotl needs is a hunter stance rework and a nerf to his chain bash. Chain bash is pretty much always the best choice 80% of the time because its so strong and safe thanks to the zone Hunter stance needs a full rework imo, a new move or two and it needs the stealth feat built into it is what i would want. Also rework death whistle pls, it sounds so ass
I've honestly noticed as a competitive player myself that the people who complain most about ocelotl are the same types that get caught in shaolins spam. Over the almost year, he's been out. I've encountered people saying he takes no skill, then when i challenge them with proper mixups and make sure my playstyle gets unpredictable, they complain even more. He is stuck in this limbo, where new players can make him a threat, and vets make him nuclear. And no one who doesn't play him likes him.
Instead of infinite chains, he should get bleed heavies, bleed feats, a damage buff to bleeding enemies like nobu and a pin with a light from hunters stance. Give him two ranged feats, the tier 2 that does less damage than Zhanhu knife but charges way faster mainly for people on ropes or ladders, and a poison version that does less damage than pugio, but has a delayed pin and does bleed damage. Make stealth a tier 1 option, and for a tier 4 give him glads roar, but it does bonus bleed instead of regular damage and a small defense increase to offset a T4 that doesn't do instant damage. Give him scout, There you go, disabler/ganker that isn't a damn nuisance. I'm actually really good against Ocelotl, but he makes no sense and ruins the character fantasy.
Since he's disabler and ganker the hyper armor makes sense in that regard but as far cosmetics yeah he shouldn't have it. But it's cosmetic. If the armor mattered and made a difference in game not with perks but with actual armor stats then yeah he should 0 hyper armor and a full block and assassin abilities and a lot of stamina or a way to regenerate that stamina like jj
I waited since year one for an Aztec and I just feel Like he’s so basic and boring in his play style as a Mexican I wanted a Chicano character and I got him but he’s just so stale Great vid as always raven
People who still think this is a reaction game continue to confuse me. The devs themselves have on many occasions said they’re moving the game into read based gameplay (over the course of the last couple years now.)
Ocelot is my Fav in the roster, he's my main. But i do agree that his kit could be better, like that his second finishers end with stagger/bleed properties, for example. If he throws 2 lights, his secondary light will, ok maybe not pin you, but just deal some minor bleed. Or his secondary bash, stagger/bleed, it already staggers so all they would add is just bleed dmg heavy finisher, would be like his hunter stance attack, where if it lands, he deals good damage/yanks it out dealing bleed damage. This would make him Frightening to fight, cuz those finishers could mess you up. Thats only one example out of many this hero could be better.
The one thing I always never really figured out was how exactly did the ocelotal win against Horkos that have weapons and armor thousands of years ahead of them and they somehow won and they are considered a threat to Heathmore even though I think the knights could deal with their small army easily.
