Hi Paul! Your videos are great and so helpful! Question about video: is there a way to get the video not to autoplay on the slide? I'm using Captivate 2019, and can't seem to find the answer. Thank you!
If you use Slide Video it will play in sync with your slide. Pausing the slide at the beginning of your slide will remedy this. Alternatively, you can use Event Video and have the learners' press play when they wish to start that video type.

Hey Paul, awesome work, very informative! I had a question regarding adding a video in a blank project vs. adding a video in a responsive project. If I put a slide video in a responsive project, when the video starts, it seems to appear as a separate window, however a video in a blank project seems to remain in the slides of the project itself. Is there any reason why this happens?
When you add just about any object to a blank project (non-responsive design) its size and position are fixed, just like the project itself. With responsive design, the video is added unlocked to any particular fluid box and just hovers there. As you view a video on different device sizes it appears as if it is unlocked from the slide because, well, that's what it is. You can lock a video to a particular fluid box or adjust the settings of the object based on the numbers in the position panel to have it behave differently if you want it.
Hi Paul. Thanks for video. Please help me. I activate the playbar but it is active for the whole project. How can we add playbar for video only? So I just want it to do back and forward in the video.

Hey Dan, No need to ask the same question twice. For this use Event video and change the skin in the properties panel to one that has a scrub bar for the user to drag the timeline of the video to the correct location.
Hi Paul, Is it possible to add a project or a link to a project within another project? The reason I ask is because when I add a software simulation to a project (imported from PowerPoint) the size is fixed and I wanted to show the full screen, however changing the size of the screen is only available by creating an entirely new project.
Hi there, thanks so much for all your videos. They have been super helpful! I just added an mp4 video to captivate. It plays when I publish but shows up black when editing. Is there a way I can view the video while editing in captivate? Thanks! Sarah
I'm not sure. Many people put a small space before and after the audio or video on their timeline and this seems to help. You could try that. Make sure you are running the most updated copy of Adobe Captivate as well. Some earlier versions have bugs.
More or less the same. The user interface has changed a little. I'm pretty sure if you search for "Adobe Captivate Slide Video" you will find the more up-to-date version of this tutorial.
How much further into videos have you gotten? I'm past the basic tutorials, trying to play a specific embedded video conditional upon pass/fail in a quiz (a video of an actor saying "You got it!" or "Try again!" depending on their results, and the past three attempts have not gone well.
I'm late to respond to this post but I think I would use different slides with different videos to convey different feedback to my learners. Depending on how they respond to your questions you could take them to different slides where you either congratulate them or provide feedback for them to learn.
I noticed that importing videos into Captivate directly can quickly make the size of the Captivate file large. I was wondering if hosting the video files somewhere else, like on a media server, then giving the appearance that they are embedded is better.
I don't know what happened to my earlier message to Brendan here but the answer is yes. Certainly today in Captivate 2019. I'm not sure how much you could in earlier releases.

Morning Paul, on the subject of video, can we import a video like a mov file with an alpha channel so it knocks out the background of video? MOV file container will keep the alpha, but captivate forces me to convert to mp4..any thots ty
This question has come up before And unfortunately all video will be converted to MP4 on publish so features that are unique to other video formats will be lost. What I would suggest is other multimedia formats instead of video. Some Captivate users have had success creating animations with transparencies in Adobe Animate and importing those into Captivate.

The audio - voice over - I recorded for the video demo doesn't match the voice over for the introductory slide that proceeds the video demo. Any way to correct this?
You could edit the slide audio and adjust the volume. I try to do all my audio at once. When you return to it the next day you might be further away from your mic or even use a different tone. It’s a challenge.
Adobe never intended for this workflow. Yes, you can perform the steps, but it doesn't work in the end. I suggest you use a tool like Camtasia to do this. The workflow you describe is something Camtasia can do. You can combine video with PowerPoint slides to achieve this.

Hi Paul, how to properly publish a learning material with an embedded video on it. I tried publishing one but it seems like I did it incorrectly as the video embedded is not playing. Thank you in advance.
Embedded video in Adobe Captivate only works when the project is on a web server. Upload it to your LMS and you should be fine.

RPHancy Adobe Media Encoder is automatically installed when you install Captivate. In Windows, press the Start button and type in Adobe Media Encoder and it should appear. If you are using a Mac you can find it in your Applications folder.
I added a video to Captivate 9, but the sound is not there. Is there an additional step I need to perform? The video was taken using a camcorder, then I used Adobe media encoder to covert to an .f4v format, then inserted.
I tried embedding a MP4 into Captivate 10 and when I render it the show just keeps saying "loading". My test mp4 is tiny so its not file size. DO you know hat the problem might be?
It's difficult for me to know why this isn't working for you. If you would like to hire me to consult you can purchase a small amount of time from my website and I would be happy to spend the time figuring it out for you. PaulWilsonLearning.com
I'm not sure what you expect me to tell with so little information. I'm not even sure what version of Adobe Captivate you are running and how you are publishing your project. I assume you are only publishing to HTML5. When you publish to HTML5 what would normally happen is your CPVC slides will get converted to MP4 videos and stored in a sub folder within the published project.
There are potential problems with full screen video, however the easiest way to do it is to embed your video from a service like RUclips and give your users that ability.
Can you please elaborate on the potential problems with full screen video? I have HD intro & credits sequences I want to tack onto the front and end of my Captivate course. The course is for corporate users using widescreen desktop monitors on a high bandwidth private network, so full screen high definition is not a problem. Thanks
I'm not sure you understand what the purpose of my videos are. I specifically create tutorials on how to do various things in Adobe Captivate. Outside of that I'm not really an expert on email creation. You may wish to look at Mailchimp for something like that.
I was thinking about the feature to place a thumbnail of a video inside a message and when clicked it will launch the video in a new browser window. I don't know that I have ever seen a video play directly inside an email message. I'm not saying it's not possible I just think if someone sent me a video that played upon opening it, I would likely not care for that too much and probably delete it for security purposes.
@@CaptivateTeacher i recorded two demo video separately now i want to join them or merge them. is this possible in adobe captivate ? because am new in this software i m learning it
Create a new non-responsive project the same size as your video demos. Click on the Insert drop-down menu and select CPVC Slide and select your video demo as a slide. Repeat this for your second video demo file, and they will now be two side-by-side slides in a project you can publish.
Hans Zarkov they are two different things. MP4 is a container format. In other words it's just the file type. H.264 is a video codec or compression algorithm. For example, H.264 can be contained in an MP4, which is most often the case, however not all MP4 files are automatically H.264.
Hi Paul, I have watched several of your tutorials and always found them helpful, so I was wondering if you can answer a question about another tutorial I watched that has not produced results. I am attempting to add buttons to control the playback speed of a video using JavaScript. Kyle makes it look so easy, but it is not working for me: ruclips.net/video/eSgwS7DeMKo/видео.html. Do any of your tutorials address this?
How are you previewing and publishing your project? I ask because Javascript will only work with HTML5. If you are using the built-in system preview or publishing to SWF the JavaScript won't do anything. If you were publishing for Flash you would need to write your actions using Action Script. Not an expert but I remembered something about this.
Hi Paul! Thanks so much for taking the time to think on this. I am previewing to browser. Another JavaScript action I tried to make sure the button and browser worked was fine i.e. button pushed gave message "button worked", so I feel confident that the browser worked for previewing. Is there another way you know of to slow down and speed up playback of an embedded video? This is becoming a trend in e-learning and seemed so easy when I watched Kyle Gill's tutorial. Thanks!
Yeah I had hoped that page would help too, but even the JavaScript on that page didn't work for me. Thanks for all your time and suggestions, I really appreciate it. Also, I received your email with the information for the Abode Learning Summit and hoping to attend, so thanks for that info too!!

I don't really know much about AME so I don't know how to do that. Can you recommend a tutorial on it?
Hello, a question like, I can embed a video on vimeo this to a slide captivate
+Jaider Baron Is this what you had in mind? ruclips.net/video/FQ2lAtfYczM/видео.html
I've saved the RUclips video the my desk-top; the URL will not embed into the ELearning Captivate 9. Why?
I'm not sure I understand your question. Can you rephrase or provide more detail?
My embedded CPVC files do not run in the published file, what is the deal?
I'm not sure what you expect me to tell with so little information. I'm not even sure what version of Adobe Captivate you are running and how you are publishing your project. I assume you are only publishing to HTML5. When you publish to HTML5 what would normally happen is your CPVC slides will get converted to MP4 videos and stored in a sub folder within the published project.
Is there a way to fullscreen an embedded video? I have videos in my course but they are too small when viewing the output
There are potential problems with full screen video, however the easiest way to do it is to embed your video from a service like RUclips and give your users that ability.
Thanks for replying Paul, that's really helpful
Can you please elaborate on the potential problems with full screen video? I have HD intro & credits sequences I want to tack onto the front and end of my Captivate course. The course is for corporate users using widescreen desktop monitors on a high bandwidth private network, so full screen high definition is not a problem. Thanks
Hans Zarkov I could do a whole video on that topic. Hmm maybe I will do that.
I agree. I think it's really important.
can you embed video into email? like an E-news letter?
I'm not sure you understand what the purpose of my videos are. I specifically create tutorials on how to do various things in Adobe Captivate. Outside of that I'm not really an expert on email creation. You may wish to look at Mailchimp for something like that.
was just wondering if you new a way. and nah you can't do it on mail chimp. thanks
How can we add two video in captivate? Is there any option for this?
fairuza qureshi you can add two Event Videos to one page but keep in mind that will increase the load time for that slide.
How do I get the exit video button into the video?
You can't add interactive elements to in slide video (yet).
why do you prefer H.264 for HTML5 instead of MP4 ?
Hans Zarkov they are two different things. MP4 is a container format. In other words it's just the file type. H.264 is a video codec or compression algorithm. For example, H.264 can be contained in an MP4, which is most often the case, however not all MP4 files are automatically H.264.
Got it. Thanks!
welcome.
Let me study that a little more and see if I can come up with a solution. I'm not a huge Javascript person but I should be able to figure it out.
Thanks!
Maybe there's something in this article that might help you: helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/event-video.html
Yeah I had hoped that page would help too, but even the JavaScript on that page didn't work for me. Thanks for all your time and suggestions, I really appreciate it. Also, I received your email with the information for the Abode Learning Summit and hoping to attend, so thanks for that info too!!
