Rare Breed vs Old Forester 1920: Is Rare Breed Better than BTAC?

  • Recently, Fred Minnick blind tasted some daily drinkers alongside the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. His Results? Wild Turkey Rare Breed was better than them all.
In this video, I pit Wild Turkey Rare Breed against Old Forester 1920. If Wild Turkey Rare Breed can outshine the BTAC line, it should have no problem bettering any easily obtainable bourbon in its category....right?

Great to see the semi-long pours and the ultimate "blind" by not only shuffling the glasses around BUT the bottles too. I tried following all that movement but NO GO!! Keep your filleting knife ready to cut that fly a new touchhole; Zatoichi did that many times. So if B > A and A > BTAC, is B > BTAC?? You do whatever the hell maths. Well kiss my ass, next time you can wear an ascot!!

As far as the Old Forester goes Ive got the 86 and the 100-proof signature. The Wild Turkey Ive got W/T 101, Longbranch, Russell's reserve 10 yr. & Rare Breed. The OF 1920 is $63 and the Rare Breed is $48 So Im pretty content with the way things are in my liquor cabinet. Great content 🥃Cheers!

Fun fact, wild Turkeys used to be very rare due to overhunting and other human issues. Back in the 1950s they were extremely rare. Thanks to effective conservation efforts (many of which have been funded by hunters by buying licenses) the turkeys have been brought back to prominence.

OF fans, George Forman has another distillery - Cooper Craft. Check out the Cooper Craft 1oo proof. The 100 proof is not filtered, while the 86 proof is filtered and a nice soft hot summer day whiskey. To me, the 100 is hot when first opened, and after awhile the George Foreman goodness shines thorough. And the Cooper Craft 100 in my area runs about $28 - 30 / bottle.

A dusty WTWT video, wonderful. I think I found the channel a bit after that, strange I didn't know it as a Turkey nut.
But I have to say that you got your Rare Breed argument wrong, Sir! Only a small percentage of Turkeys qualify for the Rare Breed honor.
Most of them are cut down brutally, just the most beautiful and full bodied birds are allowed to get to the market in their natural excellence.
So the term Rare Breed is just as perfectly fitting and fantastic as the liquid behind the label. You sure know that today ;)

I fell out my car and ran over my feet after you picked 1920. Rare Breed is royalty compared to 1920...my opinion.

They are two of my favorites. In my area 1920 is more available, but rare breed is cheaper.

First time tasting WT Rare Breed today, just now. It's really, really good, but Old Forester 1920 is definitely better!

Who's antique collection Weller and stagg in the cabinet behind you if you've never tried them?

That is a Stagg Jr and Weller Special Reserve. That also was over a year ago. I have since had both.

@@ADHDWhiskey love your videos and thanks for response. Your 5 must haves made me a subscriber. P.S. I think I may like the OF 1910 more than 1920, but either way thanks for recommending.

We still don’t know if Rare breed is better than BATC. Damn flies. I get a bit of that drying on OF signature, so thought maybe that carried through to the 1920 (not tried yet).

Sorry that my rambling mess of a blind tasting was confusing (it was for me). I was getting the dry finish on the Rare Breed, actually

ADHD Fishing Well you are different than most, but not being conventional in how you do things isn’t necessarily bad. You have to find a way to stand out from the crowd. I enjoyed the video.
