  • To be honest, I am not a fan of hook and eyes but there are an essential closure to any type of garment, even used as design details. They are handy in closing necklines, waistbands, bra straps and even used to synch-in, tuck-up and fold-over. Normally sewn by starting at the loop sides, but I show you that starting from the shaft of the hook is best to securing the hook down first (another pro tip?). Not to mention, I show you the easiest way to creating a thread loop for the eye (because those metal eyes are ugly)!!

THANK YOU for teaching me to sew a hook. I will also be throwing the eye away as I love the thread option!

Faren, I found your channel last night and I’ve binged watched your entire catalog. Thank you for giving such useful info for domestic and industrial sewing. I started sewing again last year and you provide such a wealth of knowledge that I haven’t seen from other sewing channels. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see your next video.

I can't like this enough! Being self taught, my finishing sucks. Well, at least I don't dread sewing hooks and eyes anymore.

I totally agree! I used to hate hooks and eyes as well (as I may have mentioned at the beginning of the video)... but then I realized that these little things were actually really easy and it make all the difference in the finished project. Thanks so much for your comment - you made my day!
