I already understood that darts conform the 2D fabric to our 3D bodies; but your explanation with the differences in volume + the directions of the darts was a light bulb moment for me! 💡👍 Thanks again for another useful video!
@@vivenna My pleasure, always so great to read comments from you- makes me happy that it makes sense and gives that "A-ha!" moment. I know for me, the moment I understand something - it is like all puzzle pieces make sense :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Absolutely agree with you, Alisa! It's awesome to see knowledge and skill coming together step by step :) You're my favorite sewing channel, so I'm watching and trying out a lot of your videos 😊
I think that you are a genius! Thank you so much for making these videos. You explain things so well. It's the first time that I truly feel that I can handle sewing. Thank you!
This was very helpful. I didn’t know any of this so thank you so much. I just found you today and you have already helped me so much with understanding sewing better and using my new sewing machine as well. You are amazing and I wish you nothing but more success and happiness in yours and your family’s life and future.
i knew the was the right person to watch. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into your videos to make them so beginner friendly whilst keeping every thing understandable and easy to follow. x
Oh Alisa, what a great explanation 👏. It surely took away the fear of darts and to look more closely my ready to wear garments and further learn. Thank you so much. ❤from Sri Lanka
Thank you so mush miss Alisa for this video now it makes a little bit more sense when you say darts are for a better fitting garment ( because there is a bigger volume and a smaller volume) i was happy when i saw this video
@@ThoughtfulCreativity If we could turn you into a book, you would be the perfect beginner to intermediate book for us new to intermediate seamstresses. I sewed all the time with my mom when I was a teenager but now that I’m in my 60s I’m taking it back up again and trying to get reacquainted with everything… Kind of like riding a bike
????... Por eso lo he comentado. Hablas rápido para mi 😅 y mi oído para el inglés no es tan bueno 😁 Aprovecho para dar gracias, tus vídeos son didácticos, útiles 🌷
I am guessing the reason you did not get an answer - because it is hard to explain in a reply to a comment. In essence - copying a garment with single bust dart is not that difficult you just have to think logically and watch a drafting tutorial so that you understand how the dart is made. Measure the dart, mark the placement of the dart point in the copy of your favorite tank top, measure where the dart is at on the side seam (or wherever it is) and that's it. Don't forget to extend the length of your front pattern piece by the length of the dart volume, otherwise your front will be shorter than the back.
So, Dear Sewing Friends - does this make SENSE when we talk about darts? :)

I must be the one weirdo out there that loves darts, rotating them, gathering them, pleating them…so much fun!
Great video. Thank you!
Wow thank you so much for this very helpful vidoe. Can you kindly share the details or tutorial of the blouse that you refer to at 8:52 in the video?
The video for it is linked in the description
Wow! Whats a lovely tutorial. Please is shoulder dart compulsory for every pattern?
Thanks 🙏 u enlightenment upon me about dart
Excellent explanation about darts! The princess seam is actually a dart then?
Yep! :)
What dress form do you recommend
Ooops..I guess I should have said membership area….sorry 🙂
Can you recommend a basic pattern making book for beginners to intermediate seamstresses?
I need to think about it. It depends how much hand holding do you need and how much research you want to do on your own.

How do you include darts in making the pattern.

Hi, subtitles, please . Thanks for all 🌷
You can turn on subtitles on your own in your RUclips video player. Please Google how to do it.

I’ve asked this question on RUclips several times but never got an answer:
How do you copy your favourite tank top that has a dart?
