Thanks, I did this and took it in, they scanned it and matched it up. I placed some dry wall putty on that spot and painted it. Worked like a charm...thanks again.
Short and to the point. I like it!
Thanks, man. I appreciate the conciseness. At the end you said you'd show how to fill the cut out area back in afterwards. If you did ended up following up with that video, could you throw a link to it into the description? All the best.
Thank you for showing how to do this. I needed a sample but was afraid of damaging the wall. My son did it very easily and quickly without digging into the drywall. We chose the inside of one closet.
Short and to the point, thanks!
Straight to the point. Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Your very welcome!
Thanks!! I took down my bathroom mirror & cut from there. Very easy and works!! 👍🏾
Perfect!
Thanks, I didn't know how to do this in a way that wouldn't cause too much damage, but I used this approach with a razorblade just now after watching this and managed to barely even take any of the cardboard off the plaster, I might not even need to fill it!
Thanks I was hoping it was a c better way but this seems the best and easiest
I thought I'd take the sample from behind a door or where you'll have furniture. Should be an easy patch, but when I do things, seems they're never "easy."
bam, bam, results. Just how instruction videos should be.
Pretty much! Thanks for the support.
Thank you so much!!! It worked like a charm; paint matches perfectly!!!
Totally worked! Thank you.
Thanks, you’re a life saver!
Saved my butt from doing something really dumb. Thanks!
Thank you it worked
Thanks brother
Great video. I follows exactly and it worked as shown. Sherwin Williams color-matched the paint from the sample - cant tell the difference :-)
Glad I could help!
I need this.
I thought my living room and dining room were the same color as the rest of the house.....started painting the hallway and the color didn't match up.
😊
5 years later and I'm still waiting for the video on how to fix it
Was wondering how to repair the area I just cut off
You'll need a little drywall mud and a can of spray texture.
@@MMPRECISIONPAINTING is it possible to buy small quantities of the mud? If so, where?
When I had a small patch project, I couldn't find it.
Thanks. Helpful.
I saw in another video someone had a very small container of mud vs the 5 gallon ones you normally see. It was tiny
Did you post the video on how to repair?! I need that!! 😀
I should make one. I'll make that my next video. Thanks for the idea.
Mud over it and either use a spung(wet),a rag(wet) to meld it and take the holes out or use sand paper when u feel the spot it should be a smooth as the wall no bumps
Quarter size piece, I would also take sample from behind door, don't go all the way to the base & it will be easier to patch.
Mine is too dry. It breaks rightvaway. Impossible to take a sample
Do you have a link to the following video where you show how to paint the piece you cut?
I should add one, thanks for the suggestion.
I went to home Depot, grabbed all the white paper samples they had, brought them home and compared them to my wall. Unless it's a weird color, should work
Yeah, that's fine.
Yeah but nothing beats paint matching like this guy did. Because they can shine a bit different on paper samples.
Our paint is directly on the wall itself, can't do this without it crumbling up.
how's about if possible take off lightswitch and/or outlet plates and take sample from there, as the room likely has one wall with lightswitch or outlet and were likely removed when painted
That works too. But sometimes if you're just trying to touch up, the color behind the switch won't be the same as the wall due to it's lack of exposure to u.v. light, oil from skin etc. In that case you would want to take a sample from the area your trying to match.
Will the color still be accurate using this method is there is spackling mixed in the paint?
If you mix it directly with the spackling then the color will be off.
@MMPRECISIONPAINTING Thank you for the response! I'm concerned because ALL of my walls are spackled, so I'm afraid if I take out a piece anywhere that the spackling will cause an incorrect match of the paint. Aren't the white chunks in it going to throw off the paint sample?
Hi just wondering how you would do this on a cement wall? I’m trying to take a chip of the wall but I’m concern that chip is going to break the whole wall help pls
If you cut a small 2 inch piece and get it started, you may be able to peel a piece. Look for some that is peeling already and maybe try there.
Thank you…I managed a piece approx 1cm and a bit, is this big enough for the hardware shop to find out the colour match ?
Which video shows to repaint the sample wall after the sample has been taken ?
Will do one soon.
Can’t find video on how to repair it? Add some mud?
Yes!
Will this work on a lath and plaster wall?
You would probably have to cut deeper.
How does this work for paint on hardwood trim?
I use the extreme bond primer from Sherwin williams.
What if they can't get a good match on the color?
That is pretty rare with today's paint match technology, but if it does and you are doing touch ups your best bet is to just paint the entire wall. If it's close enough then it will blend well with the rest of the walls.

"Also photos are pretty accurate. The thing you're watching this video on. Just use that to take a picture and you'll be fine."
