I believe that Harden would have not turned into the player that we know today, because being by himself blossomed his game. Had he still been a sixth man, you got Russ and KD who were continually growing apart but still had to be the main two players. Their trio isn’t like the Heat where they all had strengths that helped one another. It’s one of the best what-if scenarios in modern NBA history. If I were OKC, I would’ve built a team with KD and Harden and left Russ. Now that team, with a good supporting cast and playmaking guard, would produce the Harden and KD we see today.

It honestly more than that if we’re being realistic. Given how the KD-Westbrook-Harden relationship has turned out to be, this team may have not meshed out enough to get a ring. They would be more skilled, but you can’t have a team of stars that don’t have chemistry.

@@narrow3601 People tend to forget that Harden didn’t play good in the Finals and Perkins-Ibaka were solid big men, which is why the money went the way it went. I believe that Harden would have not turned into the player that we know today, because being by himself blossomed his game. Had he still been a sixth man, you got Russ and KD who were continually growing apart but still had to be the main two players. Their trio isn’t like the Heat where they all had strengths that helped one another.
It’s one of the best what-if scenarios in modern NBA history. If I were OKC, I would’ve built a team with KD and Harden and left Russ. Now that team, with a good supporting cast and playmaking guard, would produce the Harden and KD we see today.

My daddy had the Lakers it but because of this and 2016 is why OKC will be the biggest spurs nemesis in my mind of the 2010s. As long as KD and Westbrook were on the thunder they were guaranteed to make a deep playoff run if healthy. Alas that era is over and we even knocked them off in 2014 on road to last chip. Something okc can’t say :p
