This advertisement is directed towards anyone who feels (sexually) attracted to children. While explaining how acceptance and relationship satisfaction are basic needs to everyone, it encourages people affected to accept therapeutic help in dealing with their sexual preference: “Love knows no taboo. This one does. Talk about what attracts you!” With this slogan, the advertisement emphasizes that no one is to blame for his or her sexual desires. However, everyone can and should be held responsible for their behavior.
When talking about pedophilia, it is important to distinguish clearly between both, sexual preference and sexual behavior. Pedophilia describes the sexual interest in children with a prepubescent body scheme. Not every pedophile commits child sexual abuse and not every sex offender is a pedophile. According to present research, approximately 40 to 50 percent of all sexual offenses are affiliated to a pedophilic motivational background and around 50 to 60 percent of all child sexual abuse offenses are so-called compensatory actions. The prevention network “Kein Täter werden” (English translation: Don’t offend) offers free, confidential and anonymous treatment for people who seek help because they feel sexually attracted to children and/or consume child sexual abuse images (so-called child porn). The treatment works on the precondition that there is no criminal prosecution for child sexual abuse or consuming child sexual abuse images. As part of therapy, the people affected receive support in learning how to live with their Pedophilia and/ or Hebephilia, to accept and hereby integrate it in their own self-concepts.
