Hi Mike, yes most definitely still here, thats partly what the video is about too tbh. There is a video next week on the 08, but there be a gap for a while, I guess. school reports are looming and experience tells me they can take a while.
Hi John - work unfortunately has to come first - we all have bills to pay ! Great to have an update on what you've been up to these past few months. Totally agree with you waiting until mid summer to restart work on the N gauge. Hopefully I can get a video out myself but like you I'm really busy at work - so modelling is restricted to a short time some evenings ( provided I'm not tired). Cheers Euan
Thats exactly it Euan, time is very limited and doing small jobs is the way at the moment. Dinting station is a huge job, lots of research, designing, making, weathering etc etc etc. one thing at a time. There will be another next week on the new hornby decoder and Z21. Thanks for your continued understanding & support.
Great to see you back John totally understand with work commitments etc, love what you did with the chains coupled up to the wagons really enjoyed watching as always take care mate kind regards Danny 😊
Great update John. Good to see you again. I admire your patience with the chain couplings. Even in 00 I think that’s too fiddly for me. Don’t work too hard now. Roy.
Hi John, This was a super video the trains running which always goes down well with me and your update on these things you do which are so small that most of us cannot even see them so very well done and yes work and home life should always come first so will await your next look at Piccadilly when time permits do have a Happy Easter with whats left of it. Cheers Robert.
Hello John. Good to hear from you again mate. Firstly, that rake of open wagons just looks absolutely awesome. Secondly, I had a Headmaster from a small village primary school in my class a few months back, he was saying that he has been working weekends at home, due to the stressful workload. Anyway, it's great to hear from you John. Take care mate and best regards as always, Lee
Hi Lee, didn’t know you were a teacher. Primary or Secondary? Yes work load can be very stressful, really hoping I can get back onto making videos soon. Got the 08/ Hornby decoder video on Sunday.
Hi John. I teach/deliver lectures to both primary and secondary schools, and also colleges. The delegates are the teachers themselves and I got talking to one of the attendees who was the headmaster of a small village primary school in kent. He was telling me how he made an office at home to cope with the work he doe's, which he claims has now cascaded into his weekends. Apparently, the biggest problem he faces is the budget. This talk was just the other week and I remembered what you were saying in your last video so I thought I'd mention it (not that you need reminding lol). Looking forward to the 08 video because I was actually thinking of getting one myself. My uncle's job was doing all the mechanical repairs on them and he talks about them often. Take care John, all the best for now and speak soon. Lee
Thanks Lee, it’s amazing what we find out about people. Yes, I used to have my own home office and work does cascade into the weekends and holidays too. We have to be careful to keep some sort of home life also.
I totally agree with you John. I'm actually lucky enough to give up weekend work this year, even though I should, I try to mark portfolios and delegates assignments in the evenings because I just want that couple of days at the weekend to spend with family. Take care for now John, great speaking to you as always. Lee
Hiya John hope you are well. Totally understand with no videos coming out. Still great to watch a video tonight even if it is OO I still have learnt something. The chain couplings look fantastic
Bless you Andrew thx. I think Dinting station is going to take a while, so it not the type of thing I can do 10-15 mins at a time. Summer hols will be perfect.
Good to see what you have been able to do. You did say in an earlier video that you thought work would take a lot of your time and plainly it is. I hope the summer term isn't too brutal and passes quickly and look forward to seeing you back on the N gauge layout when you finally get to the summer holidays. Stephen
Hi Stephen, thank you. Yes work has taken a lot of time, so it the OO till then and only the small jobs at that. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Hi John! I've missed your weekly updates, but I guess we all have bills to pay, so work must take priority! Glad to see this update drop into my feed, and enjoyed seeing how you were approaching couplings! Wondering if this technique would also work in N gauge? Maybe it would be far too fiddly to achieve? All the best, Ian.
Thanks Ian, glad you liked it. N gauge chains, oh blimey. Yes it would be almost impossible, it was sooooo fiddly in OO gauge. You know I do N gauge so I rarely complain about ‘fiddly’ lol. The other problem being getting the chain. It needs to be half the size of necklace chain. So no, stay with the rapido couplings or magnetic both work well. The weekly updates will return hopefully in the Summer hols. There will be another video on the Hornby Hm 7000 / 08 / z21 next Sun
Hi John- Great work on the couplings they look good and I like the Accurascale magnetic chain couplings. I have got a HM 7000 decoder to try and I think they are good value and for me with dodgy eyes not having to solder the speaker or stay alive is great .By the way the stay alive works for longer than the 9 seconds they advertise. Cheers Kev
Hi Kev, the accurascale couplings are fantastic, but out of stock, nowhere else to be seen, hence make my own. Besides at £11 for think 6 or 8 its quite costly. Those new hornby chips are fanastic. Done my 08. Video next week now. Sound is great, can be automatic sound too. Best bit, is u can loose the hornby app after set up and run on your own DCC. There is a ‘button’ bluetooth / DCC. So once on DCC it can just stay there till you switch it back on the hornby app. 08 does need powerpack though.
Hi John. I’ve missed your updates. Hope you are well. Don’t mention the ‘W’ word, it gives us retired folk the collywobbles 😂😂 Enjoyed the vid. Hope to catch up with you soon 👍👍👍
That's a really good update, it may have been a while but its brilliant to see a good running session. I'm very impressed with your chain couplings they look fantastic, one question have you tried pushing the wagons i assume its buffer to buffer so in theory it should work, i know it will be a bit fiddly but one of the things i really enjoy is a bit of shunting. But the look is great, such a shame work has to get in the way!! But without it i suppose we couldn't afford to enjoy the hobby. Take care John Eddy xxx
Hi Eddie, yes. My layout has some sharp second radius curves, and frankly they are a disaster there, however, on straightish track, as long as the buffers are in line it kinda works. My rake will be a permanent rake so dont need to worry about pushing too much.
very good update👍 it is going to be very interesting to see if its possible to fit a hm7000 decoder in them small locos, in my experience the bachmann 08 needs to have the socket removed and be hard wired, the hornby fits just with a esu micro and speaker but be aware when positioning the speaker of the motor shaft protruding by 0,5mm, i put the speaker in the wrong way causing brush springs to leap into the motor and bind up the wheel connecting bar which broke the square pegs off the axle.
Thank you, the video will be next week now, as the powerpack still hasn’t arrived despite the shop posting with an hour of ordering, oh well… I won’t spoil the experience of sound fitting
great update and yes you've been away a while, good to see you back, those couplings are fantastic and they the most real of all I have given them some consideration myself and i think i will give them a go now i know how good they look and work. Many thanks my friend
Thanks Digger, glad you like the couplings, you’ll need a couple of pairs of good tweezers, pliers and something to cool the frustration of dropping the weee rings on the carpet. Lol
Hi John. Unfortunately work always gets in the way of hobbies. Nice to see your back, I’ll be interested to see how you get on with the new decoder and what you think of it. Stay safe and well.
Thanks Paul, yes work had taken a lot of time. Hopefully come the summer I’ll start to make some headway. Layout has never been so abandoned. I’ll put the video on the Hornby decoder next week
Hi John, good to see you back, even though it's a fleeting visit. I look forward to your up and coming Hornby DCC sound video. Something that I may well be interested in. I also have the Z21 white and love it and would like to see that and the Hornby decoder integrating.
Hi Gary, I did this more than a year ago now. I was getting bored of moving trains just 9 feet then back again. It’s so much better now, although possibly more changes afoot at some point.
Definitely, If I cannot pay the rent and taxes there’s no place to live, no layout. It’s the bottom line. There is going to be another for next week, mostly filmed just needs editing.
I demand all the money back that I have paid for these videos!! 😂 In all seriousness though, Nice layout 👍 I'm just seeing it now for the first time thanks to the RUclips algorithm.
Lol, welcome. Always great when new channels appear. You may or may not be aware I have an N gauge layout, where Ive built a model of Manchester Piccadilly, New Mills Central along with some other future locations too. Its all in the playlists, take a look.
Good to see your still with us. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Hi Mike, yes most definitely still here, thats partly what the video is about too tbh. There is a video next week on the 08, but there be a gap for a while, I guess. school reports are looming and experience tells me they can take a while.
Welcome back John even if its only briefly.👍
Thanks Gordon, there will hopefully be another next week on the 08

Thanks Danny, glad you like the chain coupling. Fiddly but worth it I think.
Videos will start up properly soon.
Great Stuff John, I use chains work great and look great
Great update John. Good to see you again. I admire your patience with the chain couplings. Even in 00 I think that’s too fiddly for me. Don’t work too hard now. Roy.
Thanks Roy, glad you like it, yes Im not gonna lie, it was fiddly. Worth it though.

Thanks Robert, happy easter. Yes work does have to take priority, but hopefully come July Ill be able to make headway.

You have an amazing layout
Thank you Peter, it does need some huge refurbishment in places. Itll get done one day, lol
Hi John, good to see you back, even though it's a fleeting visit. I look forward to your up and coming Hornby DCC sound video. Something that I may well be interested in. I also have the Z21 white and love it and would like to see that and the Hornby decoder integrating.
Thanks Wayne, glad you enjoyed the video. I’m still waiting for the powerpack, but hoping for video on the 08 next week.
Hi John you never have to apologise for not putting vids out life gets in the way we all know that but great update.
Yes, it was probably more thats the video was not N gauge, which is my bread and butter on YT I guess. Life hits, and we make the best of what we can.
Wow John when did make the oo gauge siddings into a tail chaser? Looks awesome
Hi Gary, I did this more than a year ago now. I was getting bored of moving trains just 9 feet then back again. It’s so much better now, although possibly more changes afoot at some point.
Work is far more important than videos because if you can’t pay the bills you can’t run the railroad
