    I think the key to progress and preventing procrastination is making the list which you have done, all the best for 2025

      Looking at the layout quite often, daily at times would be sufficient to spur me into action to do at least something. Ie design something, print 2d or 3d, make something, break / repair something oooo did I say that out loud, slap lol. Look at your achievements this year, incredible! The whole of that final section installed, now trains can do a full loop and return. Fantastic!

    Hello John
    It's been amazing watching your work this year on your layout and building your own trains.
    Looking forward to 2025 and the potential to see 5 trains running on your layout in 2025.
    Happy new year all the best.
    Deano

      Thank you Deano, that’s so very kind of you and glad you are enjoying the channel. So many people are keen for the 4 track alterations, thought I’d just get on with it. I’ve removed all the scenery inc mill etc but the hidden scene below is looking quite bleak, lol. Hoping to complete by the weekend. (Trains running at least)

    Hi John
    Some exciting plans and would be great to see 5 trains running and it would be nice to see the carriage shed back into operation .
    Now those wheels ……..

    A late Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I think ripping up your layout at such an advanced stage, is very disruptive.....but being able to have five trains running at once, on such a layout as yours, makes it an excellent idea and the sooner you get started the less effort spent on not running as many trains😊 ,which I'm sure we'll all enjoy seeing, and getting more trains through Piccadilly itself. As you said in building your DMUs we all learn as we go, and whilst it can seem disheartening to tear up your hard work, it will be worth it, good luck with your layout( and everything else!) for the new year and beyond.

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  26 дней назад +1

      Absolutely Philip, running trains through the station involves trains crossing over the main line near the carriage shed, and using the extra siding close by. Meaning all other trains have to stop to wait for this manoeuvre to complete. Something that would never be seen in reality.
      The biggest disruption will be at platforms 13/4 as they will need modifying to bring the lines away from the current mainline. Otherwise the area in front of the shed is not yet ballasted so minimal disruption TBH. As you said to have 5 trains running would be a amazing sight. Ill complete the station approach first though then see.

    Great exciting plans that you have for Piccadilly, John. There'll always be compromises and trade-offs when building a model railway layout. I found that true when I was doing the same thing 50 years. Happy New Year to you, John from Bill and Janet in California.

    Very well done on all you have created in 2024 onward to 2025 its just that work in the way so do find time to rest. A very Happy New Year to you.

    Hi John - track alterations in the offing😅. Funny how we build a section and then the light bulb moment arrives and we rip out and rebuild. Mind you I can see the sense in what you're trying to achieve. Nice review of what you've done in the past 12 months and the plans for 2025. Happy New Year when it comes around.

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  26 дней назад

      Thanks Euan, for a train to run through p14 it has to cross from the 'down' mainline on to the 'up fast' main line, meaning the extra siding near the shed has to be used instead and its pure madness. The idea of actually doing it came from seeing your running sessions along with New Junction's and Making Tracks. So lovely to see tracks coming from different directions. Hopefully in a few weeks, maybe Feb half term oooooooo, lol.

    Happy New Year John! You've achieved such a lot this year! I really enjoyed the build of the Mill, and making your own locos was an epic feat! The water pour was well worth the wait too! You have some amazing plans for the coming year, and five trains running is a fantastic target! I for one, can't wait to see how everything comes together! All the best for 2025, Ian.

      Thank you so much Ian, so glad you’ve enjoyed it. I’ve had loads of people like the idea of a 4 track mainline, I’ve actually started it. So devastation is once again the scene at the rear part of the layout. Scenery is safe and will slot back on. It’s only the bridges and tunnels that need modification. Thanks again Ian HNY

    Hi John, I’m looking forward to what you have planned and wow! A lot to do, it would take me 5 years, lol! Four trains running was one of my motivations for starting again with my layout so I really understand why you want to make the changes, it will look so good

    So much completed John. If you had only completed the works on the layout that would have been a good year's work, but add in the building of locos, you've achieved a great deal. Very interesting to hear your plans. Getting four running lines at the back would be a good addition, but running five trains at once takes some doing. I do agree that when you can see more than two trains running on a layout it somehow gives it something extra, so well worth trying to achieve what you have in mind. Happy New Year Stephen

    When it was first built, a new Tunnel at Gerrards Cross had a Tesco built on top of it and had to be rebuilt as it wasn't strong enough to support it. It wasn't meant to be a comment on your sturdy tunnel construction!
    Regards, Steve

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  25 дней назад

      I mentioned the Tesco store as it kind of related to my layout where a train will enter a building on the station approach, as such, as Its a link to the main line. I didnt give the Gerards Cross Tesco a second thought nor that it may have collapsed or needed rebuilding and certainly didn't take your comment seriously. Lets move on, life is too short.

    Are the wheels for a mobile module that holds cassettes? Hence showing the engine shed? Sorry John, where's my manners, hello and hope you had a lovely Christmas and happy new year my friend. So am I right? Lol. All the best, John, as always buddy, Lee

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  25 дней назад +1

      Happy New Year Lee, good to hear from you. HRU? Did you enjoy Christmas?
      Have to say a cassette system is an excellent idea. The wheels are not directly linked to the shed, other than its potentially another guess to what the major overhaul in the shed could be.
      I will reveal the use for the wheels soon, I hope, there are few more bits to get. It depends on how quickly work comes in next week, January can be a bit slow some years for supply teaching. See how it goes...

      @leewhall2504 25 дней назад +1

      I'm fine thanks John, and had a lovely Christmas.
      I can imagine being a supply teacher has its slow times. I teach higher education, but that includes teaching at primary schools, but to the teachers on subjects such as asthma, anaphylaxis and so on, so I have a bit of an insight on the budgets etc. Anyway, I'm totally baffled now with the wheels and shed, so I'll stay tuned and eagerly await. Take care John, and I'll look forward to our next chat as always. Lee

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  24 дня назад +1

      Yes Sept is the slowest, but I don’t do to bad to be honest.
      I didn’t realise you were in education also. I’ll stick to the younger ones up to year 6. lol. Life is too short.
      School budgets are a mine field, one head told it’s down to how much it costs to teach a child. In the past if a low figure was put in to the Govt, budget is always low, & visa versa. So some areas have a bigger budget purely because of their predecessors. Crazy!
      Take care, catch you soon.

      @@piccadillymodelrailways could i ask please? do you use a track rubber or alcohol on cotton buds, the former is a bid harsh on the track i think but the latter can be less effective, not sure about those wagons that have a felt pad under, not been that impressed but the maybe if regularly used. i don'y know. i must say your locos do run smoothly.

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  26 дней назад

      They run smoothly on cam when I eventually get the shot, lol. We all have track cleaning issues, and stuttering trains but I do use the newer track rubber from DCC Concepts / Gaugemaster, they are a big block (£10-13) but apparently doesn't scratch the track as much as the PECO one, they certainly feel quite fine and you can cut them if too big for your situation. (TBH though apart from the mess the PECO one makes I never had noticable issues). I do use IPA, not on a cotton bud though thats a big job and costly on cotton buds. I have a track cleaning wagon N gauge which does work fairly well on large areas like the main lines or difficult to get to areas, ie tunnels etc. Lastly to clean points I use IPA from a spray bottle and a toothbrush to clean switch rails, check rails etc etc.
      It is one of those contraversial subjects and everyone seems to do it differently. May I suggest watching some YT videos on the subject and try the methods that you like, see if they work for you, if not try something else. You will find the best methods for you. Hoping thats helpful.
