It might not be, the reason it wasn't on TEOM is because the song writers of the song she sampled for this, wouldn't give her clearance to sample their song.
I’m assuming the original creators of that song are not clearing the sample so that’s probably why it’s not on there. I’d like to believe that she did at least try to get it on the rarities. :(
The Emancipation of Mimi was truly meant to be a soul record. When I listen to songs like mine again, circles, stay the night, I wish you well and I feel it... I can totally see the vision of where this album would’ve headed if it wasn’t with the inclusion of Jermaine Dupri’s produced tracks. He was a last minute addition to the album. The album was already ready but LA Reid felt it needed something contemporary.
@AbsentDay He's not lying! We Belong Together and Shake it Off was written during those times when she was with Jermaine Dupri in Atlanta. LA Reid advised Mariah to write with him. And during those sessions, Mariah wrote all of those singles she released during The Emancipation Era. That was actually a genius move on Reid's part. It literally revitalized her career at that time.
The album is perfect because of the combination of both soul/retro songs and contemporary Dance/R&B/Hip Hop tracks. That's the magic of Mariah and that album in particular.

I used to listen to this song and loving the music and the way she sang it.. Couldn’t relate to the song. And here we are 6/7 years later and this song is about me.
Craziness. Discovered this song after learning Joy Ride replaced it on The Emancipation of Mimi album and Joy Ride is great. I Feel It doesn’t do anything for me although I sensed a vintage Marvin Gaye”ness” in it. Never heard of The Dynamic Superiors or so I thought (turns out they recorded Shoe Shoe Shine decades ago and I remember that song). So I find I Feel It uses the chorus from their Here Comes That Feeling Again and 2 of the songwriters from the original are Brian and Eddie Holland of Holland-Dozier-Holland (famous at Motown) who are in Songwriters Hall of Fame. Guess that explains the Marvin Gaye vibe I felt. H-D-H had legal disputes with Motown and others. Maybe that was partially why Mariah’s sampling couldn’t be cleared in time for TEOM.

The reason why I don't see it as overworking and the overall cause of her decline is that she had 3 days to rest in between each show & 3 months to rest in between the asian leg & the european leg. Also, DD tour ended in June 1996 and she didnt sing again until September 1997. She had more than a year to rest. Outside , My all, & Whenever You Call recordings ( if true that they were recorded after DD Tour) just shows that Mariah's condition was still likely intact for a certain period of time post-June. Her voice didnt show decline until the other songs on the album which were most likely recorded in 1997. It would be somewhat weird if the overworking effects of the DD Tour would only creep in 6+ months after she ended it. This is why I blame the possible alcoholism caused by her divorce rather than DD Tour itself. But sure, such a short tour could still impose a big impact vocally for someone who has vocal nodes singing songs of such calibre. I just dont think it really affected her voice in the coming months.

But sure, such a short tour could still impose a big impact vocally for someone who has vocal nodes singing songs of such calibre. I just dont think it really affected her voice in the coming months.
