Reminder, in 1973, we were in a worse economic situation. Even with outrageous prices, we still had to wait in hours-long lines to get gas; only on certain days based on your license plate number. We had an oil crisis. We had high inflation AND high unemployment. It was the start of a recession. And we still held the Watergate hearings. Thankfully, there are still a few Republicans like Liz and Adam who have the integrity of the party from that era and who are willing to hold a president of their own party accountable. It's too bad most of the party has lost its way.
Just because time has passed and just because we're in an economic crisis, doesn't mean we simply move on when a sitting president tried to orchestrate a coup to stay in power after losing an election. You can't credibly claim to be a patriot and still want to brush this under the rug.
Reminder that on Jan 6, 2021 gas was $1.98. Watergate was held for far less than what the Obama administration has done, Joe included.

The constitution requires electors to be certified on Jan 6. Trump didn't pick that date arbitrarily for his rally. If congress had missed that date, there's no mechanism to elect the next president. That was part of the plan. Stop them from certifying the electors enough to go past the constitutionally required deadline and create a constitutional crisis. Trump was trying everything from conspiring to commit election fraud to outright rebellion to stay in power. His own administration was looking into removing him from power. Many of them resigned in disgust. Republicans have simply given up caring about democracy; most because they've bought into the Big Lie. I think we're living in the final days of our Republic, ironically thanks to Republicans.

All it is is a ceremony where they count up the state's totals. that's it.
