That's my first memory in Norway. Visiting a girl I met in Berlin over NYE, we walked from Bygdoy to Skarpsno over the ice on a -20 degrees day of February. Didn't work out with that girl but that's the day Oslo became my favorite city.
AMAZING! Beautiful! (Especially from the safety of my sofa😂) Makes me want to start cycling in early morning…. On safe ground…. Once the snow has disappeared….😅 But very much enjoyed the effort you put into this!
That looked amazing! We haven't had sea ice down the road in Githenburg this winter. But every 10-15 years or so we get these conditions. Glad you got to experience è that!
Great done Mathew ! I believe you enjoyed it.. It brings lots of memories as I live in Stavanger and 2years ago when all lakes were frozen/ happens only ones in long time/ I rode my bike there.. I see it easier on enduro bike with fat spike tires but that feeling is incredible and for me surely unforgetable :) .. congrats to your new website and thank you for that effort! It is very inspirative and I look forward to follow some of your journeys on my own...maybe even to meet you somewhere.. 🤗
Wow, that’s amazing. Not sure I’m brave enough to do that myself. By the way, clicked on the sign up link attached to your description and was taken to a blank page. We are currently scratching our heads on the best way to get from Northumberland to the Lofoten islands with two bikes, a pile of baggage without emptying the bank.
Wow, what an amazing video. If you think it doesn’t can get any better, you always treat us with something totally new and breath taking. Thank you soo much Matthew.
Cycling in Norway is now officially on my bucket list. Will your new website show the best places to rent a bike? I’m not enthusiastic about the idea of dragging my bike through several airports. Thank you for what you do.
Hey ! Thanks for the video ! I think I might do the Eurovelo that goes from Norway . But still hesitating with other routes including the mediterranean and the atlantic !
Living in Muskoka Ontario, we get to play on frozen lakes all of the time (Jan to Mar). But, our lakes are covered with snow so we are typically on x-country skis, snowshoes, fat Bikes or snowmobiles.
Love your videos and adventures Matthew, I’m planing a backpacking trip from Bergen to Stavanger. Do you have rout recommendations? That would be extremely helpful 😊
Matthew, Loved the video, love the channel. I can't wait to take that ride. I just signed up for the newsletter and look forward to riding all over Norway this summer.
Hey Matt love your videos. I'm also a Brit in Norway and planning some bike packing this summer. Do you have some of the routes you've done saved on Strava or other apps?
Hi Matthew I've been watching your videos on yt. I'm interested in cycling to Norway via Amsterdam now I don't know if I should cycle from Amsterdam or get a ferry to Norway, I'll be doing this on my own and it will be my first adventure, obviously I'm going for the scenery and adventure I'm a bit apprehensive because I'm going to be on my own can you give me some tips it would be appreciated thanks Andy from the UK.
I did this on my own in the ‘90’s. I took bike on train from Amsterdam to get close to German border (Winschoten, east of Groningen) From there I cycled to join a route described in a guide book, from Germany to the Northern tip of Jylland in Denmark. It followed the ancient trading routes along the centre of Jylland (to avoid the herds of cattle having to cross big rivers) Lots of history along the way. A great trip. I left A’dam on a Friday morning and arrived in Fredrikshavn the next Saturday. Cycled about 90 km. a day, with 20 kilos of luggage. Used camping sites in Germany. In Denmark they had very cheap options to camp at private addresses, only for walkers and cyclists. That was brilliant. No idea if that still exists. Then I took overnight ferry from Fredrikshavn to Larvik, in Norway. These ferries have changed since then, but connections Denmark-Norway still exist. Very good cycle paths all through Germany and Denmark.
Matty, love love the Channel, but without content regularly I fear people will leave and not return eg move on. Please post a bit more often, even just 5min videos, or 30secs of something cool. The longer your are out of sight, the harder it is to find the light again. I love Norway and I am planning to return in 2025 to run across the Orseund bridge and then ride everywhere.
You need to get yourself some better ice spikes. The necklace is NOT a good solution to keep them on you. Mine are on an armband around my upper arm. Out of the way and not dangling about and irritating you. Nope, don't ride on the ice, it's common ice fishing gear. Also, when trying to get back out, work yourself back the way you came. At least there you know the ice is somewhat solid.
I'd never try that. Way too risky. I fell through ice once on a lake and has never stepped on ice since. The world is too beautiful to risk ending your life while having a boring flat ride on ice.
Mental as anything. Love it. Rather you than me though...
You Matthew are the best, really don't understand why you don't have a million subscribers by now, your videos are so inspiring. Thank you so much.
Appreciate it, thanks :)
You guys are spoiled rotted with beautiful nature - and you prensent it in a very very nice video.
Good to hear!

Amazing Matthew!
Spectacular, thank you!
Fantastic videos. I do remember seeing cars driving on the ice in Oslo
Look forward to April 2023

But very much enjoyed the effort you put into this!
There was an Austrian made bicycle designed for these conditions. A skate up front and a rear tyre loaded up with screws.
That scared the **** out of me just watching from my cozy desk chair. Absolutely beautiful landscape. Looking forward to the new site.
Norwegian frozen fjord ice riding.... who knew? Outstanding!
Amazing day out there! 🤩
Thanks for joining.
🙏 - Great day! ☀️
Magical! That goes to the bucket list now. Have to learn swimming first though 😄
I need to add "riding on a frozen lake/fjord" to my bucket list! Wonderful!
a beautiful picture when shooting with a drone: space, color, soft lighting - it was great! Thanks for the video and good luck!🍀
Thanks!
magic sunrise

Yes, absolutely.

Nice :D
It was so good to see this video. Reminded me of the days riding old school BMX bikes on the ice.

off-topic: Do you have something to do with the Norwegian biketunnel?
Did you start from Huk?
EDIT: From the ending shots it looked more like Snarøya and the public beach at the end of the old Oslo Airport!
Yes, close to there.
Wonderful video but I think I would have to pass on this ride!
I think I rather would equip myself with ice skates, much better control on the slippery ice :D
