Well, I'm dissapointed to see it end, but you did a killer job with it! This one was great, especially considering how that Flamenco/Salsa vibe is hard to dissect!
I really like hop because he starts out as the typically happy go lucky rival, you destroy his happiness, and he just says "screw battling im gonna be a professor instead"
I haven't battled him in a post game tournament because I'd feel so guilty for dragging his ass all the way to Wyndon just to slam him and win for the millionth time when he gave up being a trainer to become a professor D:
I actually let him win the first 2 times 🥺 but when he had zacian (i have shield) he destroyed me about 11 times 😐 im proud of him but like i wanna win now
The actual story wasn't great, but the characters themselves were one of the Sword and Shield highlights. I loved watching Hop and Bede go through their own little transformations. Marnie's just kind of there, but she's still neat. Even the standard NPCs were given a lot more personality. I can remember the thoughtful look on the school girls, the upset poses of the mailmen, the angry tantrums of the male pokekids, how the office workers are always on their phones, and my personal favorite: the psycho artists.

Everyday, Every single goddamn day i start liking hop just a little bit more then i did the day before This man went from being a suprisingly good rival to one of my favorite characters in not only gen 8, but the entire franchise. And this theme just reminds me of that every single time i listen to it. Thank you game freak, for giving us one of the best rivals you have given us in years and giving him an amazing theme to top it off
The protagonist literally scared off Hop from follow his dreams of being a phenomenal pokemon master and turned him into a lab assistant...and he doesn’t want to fight u in the dlc either
He wanted to be the Pokémon champion because of how cool Leon was. But as he attempted the challenge he realized that despite being among the most gifted trainers in the Galar region Leon and PC are geniuses among geniuses, Hop's final team was easily strong enough to be the Pokémon Champion - just not in Galar. He realized it and decided that it's okay to give up on your dreams sometimes it's just important to find a new goal in life. He also noticed that he really enjoys helping people and the Pokémon - being a Pokémon professor still allowed him to become what he dreamed of, just not in the way he imagined it

Hop could have been such an amazing character. No, actually he is. It's just that the game doesn't really portray that well enough. In game he doesn't feel like a challenge at all and never feels like he gets past the "tutorial" fight of the game. Even though he's said to be an amazing trainer he was consistently an easy as hell fight. But we see glimmers of amazing parts. This fight is a perfect example. When he puts everything into it. Is gritting through it all and going all out. When he loses and you see him ready to cry but he hangs in there regardless. That made me feel something for him. I just wish the game had made him less... Common? I guess? So the battles with him felt more special and actually properly challenging. I enjoy his energetic personality, his determination. He's a good kid with a goal he wants to accomplish but the game just doesn't express that well. He ends up being an annoying roadblock that pesters you to fight every chance you see him. Which is quite a lot.
It’s honestly such a shame, he had so much potential that just went to waste. Seeing him grow as a fighter despite being knocked down was refreshing and could’ve been really great and help develop his character even more if it weren’t for the lacklustre writing of the game.
There are the small things, like how he always imitates Leon to try to be the best, and he is the only rival that actually kicks team members for newer ones in order to get better
He kinda cries a lot and all yeah but he doesn’t just say he will get stronger he does get stronger. He swaps out his team witch most rivals don’t do. But he even swapped out his Dubwool. I don’t think he wanted to do that but he did to become stronger.

I’d say Hop is one of the few rivals who truly aspired to achieve something other than the generic “I’m better than you” that Blue, Silver, Cheren, or the “Heya bestie you’re sooo amazing” that May, Bianca, THE ENTIRE GEN 6 CREW, and Hau had, while he does start as the latter he later branches out and shows genuine emotion and even is willing to search for something he truly wants to do aka being a Pokémon Professor (without a 2 year timeskip looking at you Bianca and Cheren), Hop is definitely one of the few rivals with ambitions that isn’t a broken record, the only other two rivals I’d say did this was Barry because of his strive of wanting to be a great battler due to his father, and N who truly believed liberating all Pokemon was the right thing to do Edit: okay so I forgot about some rivals but the only one I’m gonna touch on is Wally, he’s also a good rival, but when comparing him to Hop, it’s still no competition, if I had to make a Tier List of Rival’s, Wally and Barry would have A tier to theirselves, but Hop and N would have S tier to theirselves

All jokes aside, Hop is a good rival, for the time. Yeah his methods and battle style are... questionable... but! He’s clearly got heart, not to mention his battle arena battle theme is just great at expressing his desire to win with the constant shift from bit to bit in its tone... too bad he’s F tier compared to us older players
This remix helped me greatly on an emotional level. Without it's upbeat tone, without the notes telling me "You're almost there! Don't give up now! You can do this!", I most likely would've struggled writing the last few pages of my long and detailed "Research Methods" final report in college. Awesome work!
I actually see hop as the best rival for about 2 reasons. 1. He actually has some character development which is something we haven't seen in a rival in quite sometime. 2. *HE FRICKIN USES THE STARTER WEAK TO YOU KNOWING LEON WILL TAKE THE LAST ONE SO HE WILL HAVE THE TYPE ADVANTAGE AGAINST LEON IF HE BATTLES LEON*
I do like hop and I think he could’ve been a great rival, but the story and writing held him back. I don’t think they should’ve made him an outright jerk like blue, but definitely not happy go lucky like some of our recent contenders. If anything, I think he should’ve been like Cheren or Hugh from gen 5. They had the perfect combination of not being a jerk but not being too friendly. They were obviously the player’s friend, but they also acted as a rival and challenged the player to be better. If hop was like this, then he probably would’ve been the best. His theme is also really good.
Thank you hop for making Pokémon Sword so fun for me, battling you at the end truly felt like having a final battle with a friend, I would pay to relive that moment over again
Hop is the best *friendly* rival. No question. Arguably jackass rivals like blue are better but hop holds a special place in my heart (SwSh was my first pkmn game, since then ive played em' all)
I’m embarrassed to admit, But I was stuck on this hop battle for almost a week. When i finally won,my last pokemon,rillaboom,was left on 4 HP dynamax form because of inteleons stupid ice beam.
Those animations look so amazing, the music is just as amazing, I love hearing the modern Pokemon themes retro-ized (idk if it's not a real word or not but I don't know what else to call it)
Just quick talk but: My god? I gave Hop Cinderace during my ice type playthrough and j e e z I have nearly died to him several times. I kinda wish he was that hard normally.

I haven't actually challenged Hop again in Wyndon, because I'm scared he'll bring his Post-game team. I think that's the mark of a strong trainer, when even the Champion is scared to fight you. Good job buddy.

A little part of me dies because the NPC’s are always so hyped to face me but then I just absolutely decimate them and then they get all sad.
I love the sword and shield ost. I feel like the songs have story interwoven within them, and it puts be in chills everytime.

Those animations look so amazing, the music is just as amazing, I love hearing the modern Pokemon themes retro-ized (idk if it's not a real word or not but I don't know what else to call it)
if you think about it, the whole pokemon franchise is basically you destroying everyone's career, and you only lose like, 3 times

I haven't actually challenged Hop again in Wyndon, because I'm scared he'll bring his Post-game team. I think that's the mark of a strong trainer, when even the Champion is scared to fight you. Good job buddy.
