- Let's Hop to it! If there's one thing that Pokémon Sword and Shield did excellently, it was the atmosphere of the gym battles. Battling in front of a stadium packed with excited fans was something we saw in the anime series and I always dreamed of being able to do the same in the video games. The music in gen 8 was incredibly good at hyping up a good fight, and one of my favourite examples of this was your final showdown with Hop at the end of the game. Everything Hop has dreamed of and has been working for has come down to this last stand and the awesome remix of his theme does that feeling JUSTICE, while also not forgetting to have some fun. Hats off to Minako Adachi, Go Ichinose and the rest of the music team for this game! I hope I was able to capture the same energy.

This is one of the rare times in pokemon where the core story with the rivals was more interesting than the legendary story. The concept of competing in a grand tournament across the region made it feel more interesting than most rival stories.
Hop has a more understandable arc than most rivals in my opinion too. He starts off obnoxiously optimistic due to his brother’s legacy, but as he goes on the weight of his losses against you and others bears down on him that he won’t be able to live up to expectations. All to come to terms with it and face off against you one last time at the climax… feels good despite being an overall mediocre game

Sure, though SM managed to do both at once with Lillie. I mean, she's technically not a rival gameplay wise but she serves the same narrative purpose so I'd say it fits.

This cover was already a 10/10, but all the little Easter eggs of other BANGER trainer themes, make this a FIFTEEN out of ten!

@@toonin4gaming783 - He’s actually pretty good at Pokémon, probably even from the start. He even gets to the point of being in the top 5 trainers in all of Britannia. For some reason this isn’t enough so he gives up entirely and decides to become a professor assistant, something which he showed absolutely no interest in before deciding to become one.
His character arc is extremely weak, even for a Pokémon game.
It’s more like… He thought nepotism meant he’d be strong, lost a bunch to the player and Bede, who said he was a disgrace to Leon and he took it personally. Then he realizes that Leon and the player don’t make him strong, he makes himself strong, stakes everything on the semifinals match and still loses. Then he realizes the gap between the player and him, and the whole thing with the hairdo brothers teaches him that he likes helping pokémon and wants to know more about them so he wants to be a professor. It’s not super deep but it feels pretty serviceable to me.
Gladion's theme hit me like a steel chair. 1000/10

Sword and Shield might be eh, but Hop is a great character. I think he's one of the first rivals to work on the concept of "What about the characters that are not flawless and always great at everything they do like the protagonist is". And I'm sure that if we were in the Pokemon world for real, most of us would never be as strong as Hop is anyway. I think only people who would manage to train their Pokemon following the rules of Pokemon strategy (probably at the cost of emotional attachment with their Pokemon) would go far. Gym Leaders, Elite Four members and the Champion would only be the best Pokemon strategists, and casual trainers wouldn't go far.

@@NVMafia2k I don't understand why the gameplay impacts your rating of Hop's character. Pokémon always had the issue of being too easy for any slightly experienced player. It's not a Hop problem, it's a Pokémon as a whole problem.

It feel like somehow the whole gangs back! Hop might be the biggest pushover in the whole Series, but this Theme get me bopping every time!

Even when the game is as effortless as Swsh was, the soundtrack alone makes you feel like you’ve triumphed over so much to get to the point you’re at.
You shouldn't say swsh was effortless, because it clearly isn't true. You know that isn't true because you're sitting here listening to something that was created because of its soundtrack, which I assume you like. A game is a bunch of parts and to call the whole effortless is to shit on the work of the many people who put so much time into it. It was rushed. That's what it was.

You can criticize higher-ups for horrible decisions & still appreciate the game developers for everything they created.
The developers are the ones who work very hard to create what they can, they can't control their deadlines or resources that they are given.
SwSh was rushed, but the developers did amazing considering everything that we already know & can understand about what happened during development of SwSh.
The people in charge of making the biggest decisions at The Pokémon Company® don't care about quality of the Pokémon video games. However, even despite, we have developers at GameFreak trying their best for the current largest grossing media franchise, so I commend their work despite being upset/disappointed in large areas of SwSh.

This remix makes me miss SwSh. Might pick it up again, I logged hundreds of hours into that game lol. I had so much fun with it, especially with my main pokemon Stanley, the Shiinotic :)

Most of my time spent grinding in SwSh is spent making fun of Hop and his team, but his theme goes hard. I didn't think it was possible for it to get this much better!
Always a good day just to see a Galar remix in general. I don’t see many SwSh remixes aside from the standard trainer battle and gym leader themes and maybe Marnie’s battle theme. You really hit it home with this one! I absolutely love Hop V2 and I love the little bit of Gladion’s theme you snuck in there too.

Great job! I also love the nod to Leon’s theme for that split second, and that slow violin and trumpet transition was a masterpiece move. And the monkey sound effect thingy.

Having listened to a lot a videogame remixes in my life , I gotta say this one is absolustly amazing. It has everything.
This track is so underrated compared to the Galar Gym Leader theme. It captures just how intense this match was to Hop compared to our previous encounters with him. Definitely one of my top favorite tracks in the game let alone franchise.
I like Hop. Most people have tried really hard at something but realised that they just aren’t good enough, or think they put in enough work but they still have a long way to go. Pretty good character

Okay, Pokemon Sword and Shield had less stories, but some insanely good music.
Even 3 days before Scarlet and Violet, I still listen to the Eternamax Eternatus battle theme, Final Battle Hop's theme, Oleana's Battle Theme, Chairman Rose's theme, And Good Ol Normie Hop's theme, Bede's boppin theme, Pierre's One heck of a theme and on.
this is a great boss battle in the game, the difficulty combined with the amazing music makes it quite enjoyable

I love how hop uses his GOAT instead of his starter. Rather than imitating how the player most likely dynamaxed there starter he chose to stick with his first and most important pokemon as his way of being cool and different.

Hop is one of the best characters in all of pokemon. I don't care if they stop you a bunch in your adventure. That dialogue is gives him legitimate character development which I truly love. He feels very human.
Honestly, overall, the SWSH hate is incredibly unjust. These games were incredible.

Say what you will about Hop. I liked him. He went through some tough times. Losing to Bede really got to him, enough to change his team up multiple times (I sort of like this as it's realistic to the player changing their own team throughout the journey). But in the end, he learned to be his own person, and not piggyback off of his brother's success. And he was rewarded with his own legendary Pokemon! And even figured out what he wanted to do with his life. He has my respect even if he's bad at battles.

One thing SwSh did was make me want to lose to Hop, and Marnie.... and Bede. but just refused to even let me get close to doing anything like that
I definitely think hop deserved more from the game than we got of him. He is definitely one of the best written and developed characters in pokemon history!
