  • After featuring Kenji's white EF Civic back in 2020, he notified me to head back after he finished his CR-X. With the way Kenji does things at GReddy, I knew this car was going to be insane, in a very OEM way.

DC Sports header, GReddy exhaust, Ground Control coilover sleeves with Tociko HD shocks. Over the 13 years I owned it I put over 300,000 miles on it. Got into WRC and sold my CRX and bought a WRX. Miss that little car. Wish I had kept it.

I had a 1987 Crx 16i16V . Red zone started at 7000rpm. This version has 6500 red zone. It had the same ZC1 engine as this one on the video, but with 125hp. It was light and fast when you put the rpm between 5 and 7000. It was extremely reliable and had no oil consumption. Engine was very smooth. I sold it to a friend and I am still able to drive it sometime because I do the maintenance once in a year.

Masterfully done! Wow! Larry, thank you for highlighting this car. It is a true Honda community effort. It was a very sad day when I had to let my 1986 Honda CRX go. I drove that thing into the ground with the hopes I would turn it into something like this. With a new family at the time that was not possible so seeing this was amazing. Again, thank you.

Thanks for a great video with super rare content. I got my White 86 CRX dohc ZC1 back 89, loved it so much I put it in the garage in 2000 to do work on brakes and tidy it up, it's been indoors ever since. It's going to be a great retirement project very soon.
Cost here in UK was £11,000 new, it has electric windows as a factory option, everything else is stock. The rear spoiler shown is exactly the same as mine, a foam material with satin finish over a metal frame which rusts inside. I never found a replacement. This car does look better on 15 wheels, but my 14 factory alloys are in good condition.

Back in 1989, a then co-worker owned a 1985 CR-X HF and we drove from Los Angeles to Tijuana Mexico and back and the darn thing averaged over 47 MPG with two young guys in their early 20s with lead feet! The thing was sprightly too, I think we drove between 75 and 90 MPH the entire way(the speed limit was still 55 MPH back then). Very impressive little car.

It got totaled and I ended up getting lucky enough to get enough money to go get a 91 Si. These were such good cars and I really don’t understand why Honda went away from them. They just kicked ass in so many ways. They were fun to drive, reliable as hell, and got insane gas mileage.

Honestly, you see any car from the 80s in pristine condition, and it’ll always turn heads. I worked at a lube shop in Wisconsin, and there was one guy who showed up with a bone stock Chevy Beretta in pristine showroom condition. And we were all just in awe. None of us could even tell why we thought it was so cool. It wasn’t cool. It was just clean.

Lol 😆 I slow rolled a 1990 CRX the other day sitting in a guys driveway thinking hmmmm, I wonder how much he would take 😅 it never ends, the cars we cherish today used to be easy come easy go.

Gorgeous CRX. I have a 1985 CRX, a Ballade Sport DOHC clone, and plan to hand it down to my son one day. I have the JDM ZC, the bulged ZC hood too. I HAD the aerokit on an 87 CRX, and regret selling that 20 years ago. Unfortunately I have neglected my CRX, letting it sit and rust, but hopefully will get it fixed up someday. I also miss my CF48s and MR-5s. The ZC is a fun engine in these old cars.

He mentions King Motorsports(the Mugen dealer) of Wisconsin at 22min saying he does not know them. Scott and Bob were racing fist gen CRX's when they were brand new, racing Civics since 1981. Definitely worth talking to them, if rare parts are needed they would likely know where to find them. I used to have Scott's '01 ITR cylinder head on a '01 ITR motor they built for me. They were the number one Muger dealer outside of Japan and the sole authorized dealer in N America at the time of that build. My first Honda was a 1985 CRX Si my senior year of high school back in 1996.

And yes, the Greddy D series turbo kit also fits this dual cam D series.
